My cousin graduated college this year and has over 50k in student loan debt. That's when I realized that college might not be my best option when all I really want to do is explore the world. I don't want to be paying off student loans for 20 years and I think this planet is too big and too extraordinary to stay in one place. Right now, I'm 17 and a junior in high school, but I'm determined to find a way to travel once I graduate. Blogging and doing travel photography would be my dream, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to just get out there haha
Hannah Monks oh my god I'm exactly the same!!! I'd rather be homeless traveling than millionair stuck in a house.. and I'm not going to college.. if my dad knew this he would kill me.. that's why I'm running away to travel the world ;) and I'm 17 as well
Gina N. The way I see it, a college degree is not necessary for anything I want to do in life. Not all jobs require a degree anyway. And please don't make assumptions about me, my parents, or my life in general. I'll have you know my parents support me 100% in whatever I choose to do in life. And thing is, this is my life. Not my parents', not strangers' on the internet, mine. Thanks for sharing your opinion though. I just don't see things the same way as you do, and that's okay. :)
1. Teach English, 2. Work as Tour Guide, 3. Work on a cruise ship, 4. Work remotely (e.g. programming, graphic design, freelance w/ upwork), 5. Be a flight attendant, 6. Be an Au Pair, 7. Graduate school abroad, 8. Work for the government (e.g. diplomat, military), 9. Apply for a transfer, 10. Start creating (e.g. youtube videos, blog) -Great video! Just easier for me to see the list written down :)
These things need to be brought up to kids from school age right up to university students. Otherwise you end up doing something that you don't really like
watvid1 You're not supposed to do something you like, you're supposed to do the right thing. Nobody likes harvesting potatoes, cleaning public toilets or looking at strangers' hemorrhoids, but this is the kind of work people have to do to survive and to live in dignity. If enough people started traveling and making TH-cam videos the economy would collapse.
I knew a Polish couple who traveled by following the labour needs of agriculture in different parts of the world, from New Zealand apple picking to cherry sorting here in Canada. Just another idea for anybody interested.
GUYS! i’ve been subscribed for 2 years now. I don’t watch regularly but ANYTIME I ever need advice on traveling, I come here. You guys do it right. Thank you!
I hope its not too late to tell you you cannot fly to costa rica on a one way you need an exit ticket there very strict there unlike other countries good luck
I love my job! Working for a humanitarian organization to start a community center for locals and expats is awesome! Helps that we live Belgium because it's small and easy to travel to other European countries. Some great tips in this video.
Loved this ! Thanks guys ! For me, I work a 9 to 5 job in order to go on at least one weekend trip every single month, which, so far, has been successful. Having visited 8 countries across Europe since August 2015, all in my free time without having to ask for single bit of time off work. Travel has since become my main pleasure based expenditure instead of things like tech as it used to be for me. I hope someday to be able to do it full time too someday.
I did the au-pair program in the USA and the UK - it's great! It would have taken me ages to save up to go abroad, but thanks to this program I had almost all my expenses covered, got to study, live, learn about the culture and travel there. I can't recommend it enough, but of course it's not for everyone - if you don't like kids and would prefer a vacation type travel, then it's not for you. It has its downsides as well, but the advantages of this program are far bigger than the disadvantages. Btw, it totally is for guys, too! ;)
A couple things that were left out was to become a house sitter, a few websites offer this and you can get paid to take care of pets and a home in every country, sometimes even mansions. Another is called work away and you travel the world volunteering 4-5 hours a day on farms, hotels and resorts in exchange for room, board and meals. I've done both and been to 8 countries in the last 5 years. Also, a tip, get a credit card with flyer miles and eventually you'll build up enough points to fly anywhere in the world for free.
haha, "...in no time // in some time." Yup, keep plugging along. Subscribers keep coming. Viewers keep finding us. Great advice guys! These were really useful ideas.
I've been watching all your videos, oldest to newest, but I admit it I skipped ahead to watch this one right away when I saw it posted haha. Great video guys! We are currently doing the teaching English/blog on the side route in China right now. I think all the options you mentioned are fantastic. Sometimes the most important thing is just to do something.Anything. Start now. Make the decision to travel and don't let anything get in your way. If you truly want it, you can get it. Do it to it. Thanks for the inspiration boys!
As a university student with a passion for travelling but almost no money, the dream to travel after graduation seemed a bit far fetched but your video has helped put some things in perspective. Thank you for making this video. Cheers! :D
I worked 3 jobs for a whole summer so that I could afford the 4 month trip I'm on right now. The 4 hour work week is a great book, I'm always looking for new opportunities to fund my travels more easily :) I recently started a travel vlog but it's more for fun than anything else right now. It's definitely really hard to grow a TH-cam channel, congratz on doing it guys!
Did Au pair and study abroad, about to start working in a foreign country, vlogging at my time! The Tips in the video work for real! Pack your bags go explore the world!
Thank you very much for those tips! For my whole life I have felt like I didn't belong (where I was born) which led me to depression (still struggling), and I never really wished to do/have what the others dream of (and by that I mean becoming rich, buying a huge house, having kids and a husband etc). I thought maybe I just wasn't mature enough to realize what's really important in life. Then it hit me. Traveling is (one) the only thing(s) I really love. Exploring new countries, new cultures, studying languages and history, seeing the world through the eyes of people I have never met before, stepping out of the comfort zone and being always on the road. And that's the only thing which has kept me going, your videos play a major part in it too! I love all forms of art and I wish to write books about my adventures, maybe start my own vlog, become a photographer or whatever else! I just wanted to thank you guys and in 3 years (aka when I graduate) I'll start to make my dreams come true.
Also one of the many options to travel cheap is to volunteer abroad. In Europe one of the many companies that provides it, is Erasmus. They often pay for the accommodation, they give you a place to stay and sometimes even give a small amount of pocket money every month. Of course it's not much, but you can help to make a difference, travel and get new experiences. :)
I will definitely try one or a few of these when I get better. 9-5 jobs are not for me because I now have burn out syndrome at age 23. And I live for traveling, my biggest passion in life. Thank you guys! You are an inspiration 😊
hi! thank you soo much, you guys give me so much hope! seriously, you see im at that point in my life where i dont know who i am or what i want, im living a life and studying a career that i know for sure is not going to give me the only certain thing that ive always wanted: to see the world. Im 20 and you have no idea how afraid i am of being afraid to quit the life i dont want and go live my dream, its just so hard to get out of your confort zone and the thing that scares me the most is never having the guts of living, im also afraid of getting too old to get te life i want, im afraid of the "too late".
This is the only video I've seen about this topic that's actually helpful. Thank you so much! I love traveling and even though I can't do it right now because I'm a student and I own a dog, I'm hoping to travel a lot later in life.
I actually really love your videos! Ive seen a lot of videos that really dont help or are just really scammy and ask for money and stuff. You guys are brilliant and I take a lot of your advice and it really helps! Again, Thanks!
Always wanted to do something like this! I quit my job a year ago and travelled throughout Mexico until recently as I taught English. I think it's time that I start doing something for bigger cash and start writing about my travels! I found out I express myself better when writing about it than talking about it, plus it's a great excuse to show off your pics haha I need to look more into your tips! Thank you! So glad I bumped into your Tijuana video and I got hooked!
Seriously, you guys give me life haha !! You are so awesome and all your videos are so inspiring ! I have a been working as a travel agent for two years now, and yes it's great to plan other peoples trips, and we have a few advantages. But we work so much that i'm lucky If get one week trip a year :( I really want to travel long term, and want to start my own travel channel. You guys our so encouraging !! :D
Thank you for the video vagabrothers. I have just started following your channel and it's quite inspiring and refreshing to look at a way of life from your perspective. Keep up the good work :)
Just found this channel last night while I was working, cause I was looking for more infos about Amsterdam. You seem really cool guys and your channel seems also beautifully made and being a travel lover I just subscribed 🙂
We love to travel in our minivan. Take out the back seats and create a bed. We buy food at grocery stores or stay with family/friends. It's a great way to see new sites for a fraction of the cost most pay! Our latest trek to the mountains in Colorado is featured on our vlog!
This is a really well put together list. I agree with most of these suggestions and have even tried a few. People don't think about a lot of these as option but they are available. I think its high time I try a few more of these.
These are great ideas! I graduated in May and am currently a Teaching Assistant in France, and writing a blog & vlog in conjunction with it just like you guys said. For now, I'm trying to make this teaching english abroad thing last a while :)
number two is totally my dad. currently he is in Europe tour. Because of him i have got so many European product and gadget in free of cost. (actually as a gift) Thanks to him... having guide daddy is really cool.
You guys are a big help. I'm finally listening to my desire to start international travel vs talking about it...and I'm doing my research. Thank you for the information you guys provide
Wow! Talk about response time :). I responded on another video of yours asking about how to decide where to go, when looking at the 31 cheapest locations to travel. I've made the decision to travel, now the big question, where? If you have any suggestions/tips, I would greatly appreciate it. If not, I still appreciate the videos!
I have traveled all over the world working in a hotel. You get great discounts on hotels and the pay is often pretty good depending on the position you’re in and the location.
Being a flight attendant sounds like such a cool job, not to mention it'd make backpacking a lot easier and cheaper. You guys just inspired me to send out applications to a whole bunch of airlines.
I taught English abroad and it wasn't my thing. I am planning to move to Serbia soon and will continue to try to grow with my channel and blog. Also, travel freelance writing has been a good source of income for me too!
I am an aupair and travelled soooooo much in summer !! It's great ! You are always broke if you spend all your money at the weekends for travels but you stay at the family's house, get food and work anyway 😄 I always try to eat "at home" to safe money and don't do so much stuff during the week
I became a chef to travel the world :) it is really easy to find work as a chef anywhere in the world as long as you are willing to work long hours under pressure and still be able to enjoy what you do
I have been teaching, interpreting, tour guiding and modeling the past several years.... and now "Youtubing" too hehehe. I got curious about the researcher job you guys mentioned, will check on that now! thanks for the great video. p.s. You can also model to travel easily, if you look enough like an alien, on these days :p
I'm a teacher-to-be and I always thought that teaching was only effective within a classroom. it's amazing all we can do with English. i'd like to be a tourist guide in order to learn historical facts of some places and sightsee the world by just speaking Enlgish. Thank u for showing me others ways of applying English and be paid haha.
Wow these were great tips. I applied myself to 2 of them ...flight attendant and English teacher but ill look into the others as well. Thanks for sharing
Working Holiday Visas, WOOFING, and a junior year abroad--organized through your college or University are also good options! I've taken seasonal jobs in adventure tourism in rural areas ( A dude ranch in British Columbia, a Dogsledding outfitter in the Yukon) that pay you and provide free room and board--a great way to save money and have a cool experience.
This is what I am working towards. I started my travel vlog TH-cam channel start of February and I am wanting to go to more countries and film my adventures, just have to find the best way to get payed to do it
Alex, Marko, first of all I want to thank you for this video. For a very long time I've pondered traveling the world but could never quite figure out how to accomplish it financially, until now. I have a couple of questions about the options I found most interesting. Teaching English: Would you not have to be fluent in the local language in order to first teach English? Working on a Cruise Ship/Private Yaught: Where are jobs like this typically advertised? I've always liked the thought of doing something like this but never could figure out how it would be possible. Being a nanny: Do you not need qualifications to do this? If not, would the employing family accommodate you or would you have to find accommodation elsewhere? Again thank you guys so much, see you on the road.
+Joe Wearing Another thought: volunteer over seas for a time. I volunteered In Canada working as an activity specialist at an Educational camp.I went with a company called Lattitude Global Volunteering and they helped with everything I needed and set me up with the camp. The camp then trained me and qualified me (very laid back process surprisingly) I was paid $500AUD a month and had free accommodation and free meals (living with other staff, local and from abroad and making good friends). Although I did work 16 hour days, with 11 free days a month in my schedule. I did that for 4 months (you can go for longer though) and managed to travel locally to Edmonton, Banff and Jasper in that time with local coworkers I had met. After that stayed with people in other cities and travelled across Canada. My employer offered to take me on as an employee instead of a volunteer and I could have taken it but I have plans to study back home. I also saw other job opportunities there to continue working there. I mention this because it;s a great, structured and failsafe way to get a foot out the door to working over seas. and I had an amazing experience. just an idea :)
+Joe Wearing Joe, Ive found the best way to earn and travel the world is with the laptop lifestyle. Its the best way to earn while traveling. If you're ever interested to find out more, message me. I'd be happy to share what we do. Good luck with everything and I hope you go on many amazing adventures!!
when I was in college last year I asked if I can do an internship abroad for the summer. the internship was to help missionaries in their ministry and I spent the summer in Taiwan and I went back during Christmas break. then I discovered what I wanted to do. Next month I am going to Korea with the One Mission Society that sent me to Taiwan in the first place and I may have a job waiting for me in South Korea. my favorite when traveling I have always loved Asia and I'm so glad that I lived life. my first year in College I went to Australia to simply study then came back and finished up university here in San Antonio. I say if you are in university asked about internships abroad for the summer or over Christmas break. go on Mission trips! if you really want it, you can make it happen.
My current plan is to work as a live-in nanny in the UK next year (moving from New Zealand) and save for a year and then use my savings to travel the world as much as I can while working on my blog/TH-cam channel.
Just got the travel bug at over fifty. Wish I had it when I was younger. I am enjoying your videos! I find you guys well spoken, fun, and video quality excellent! Congrats on the new home and you silver play button.
Flight attendant here and starting to vlog. Sometimes its had to find time to edit my videos. Im also trying to purchase better camera and need another go pro. But hopefully ill get to do some amazing youtube videos helpful for those who dont travel often or simply visiting a city for the first time!
😍 this is great tips and inspirational. I'm actually a AB political science graduate and currently taking on Teacher Certificate Program which after this I am planning on taki. English Proficiency program too cuz I'd love to teach english in other countries.
Another option is to work non-profit. I found a hotel that was excavating a Roman Bathe that was located in the basement of the hotel. Volunteering my time offered me no issues receiving a Visa into Rome, a well reduced cost in my hotel stay and a private Tour of the Vatican Museum. The easiest way to find out about historical restorations for me was to volunteer at a NY Public Library as well as visit the Mason center in NYC.
I lived in Whistler for 3 years working the ski season and traveling America during the off season. Pay wasn't great but I was smart with my money AND you get a free season pass and big discounts on food (plus some other perks). Also, who wouldn't want to wake up every morning, look outside their window and be surrounded by snow capped mountains?!! Now that I'm back in Australia I've managed to score myself a job that offers the possibility of an overseas transfer plus traveling around Australia itself, and I will be doing my TEFL course soon to give myself options. If you want something bad enough you'll find a way to make it happen ;)
i'm finishing school next year in summer and want to travel before going to university, so i'm always looking for good opportunities. this video and the comments on it are very helpful! thanks! :)
My cousin graduated college this year and has over 50k in student loan debt. That's when I realized that college might not be my best option when all I really want to do is explore the world. completely agree with you! That's my plan too!
Jameel Kout I totally agree with you! I think some of us just see the world in a way that's different than the majority, ya know?
Start creating (e.g. youtube videos, blog)
-Great video! Just easier for me to see the list written down :)
Does anyone know a good website to find jobs to teach English in any country? Or I have to find one website to each country I wanna go?
Thanks ^^
rita wade Do I need a certification of a degree or something 😂
Thank you :)
Joyce Macksuele - did you get the job because you thanked this person twice? One 5 months back and one 2 weeks back.
These things need to be brought up to kids from school age right up to university students. Otherwise you end up doing something that you don't really like
Seriously!
Ikr :( I wish I heard this last time in high school. If I have kids I'm gona teach them all these options early
THUMBS UP BRO!!!!!!

It's true anyone can travel the world, if you want it bad enough. You covered pretty much all the bases there - great job guys
Cheers mate!
I love my job! Working for a humanitarian organization to start a community center for locals and expats is awesome! Helps that we live Belgium because it's small and easy to travel to other European countries. Some great tips in this video.

Just keep in mind you do need a college degree if you want to teach English abroad in places like Korea or the UAE.
I do have one, can I become a teacher in Korea?

+vagabrothers I used greataupair.com :) Can't wait for summer. I watched your video in Copenhagen and so excited to visit that place.
This is so inspirational! I just started traveling and making videos, too! Thanks for sharing(:
Me too. I feel like so many people want to share their experiences with the world, which will help us all better connect to one another.

Just found this channel last night while I was working, cause I was looking for more infos about Amsterdam. You seem really cool guys and your channel seems also beautifully made and being a travel lover I just subscribed 🙂
WOW! Thank you!! Full time travel and fitness is my DREAM!!
just gotta plunge and do it!
We love to travel in our minivan. Take out the back seats and create a bed. We buy food at grocery stores or stay with family/friends. It's a great way to see new sites for a fraction of the cost most pay! Our latest trek to the mountains in Colorado is featured on our vlog!
This is awesome, thanks for the tips boys! Subscribed now
+David Thor Tucker cheers David!!! Stay tuned tons more on the way. ✌🏼
Great video. Thanks gents. We are a full time travel family working remotely.
number two is totally my dad. currently he is in Europe tour.
Because of him i have got so many European product and gadget in free of cost. (actually as a gift)
Thanks to him... having guide daddy is really cool.
You guys are a big help. I'm finally listening to my desire to start international travel vs talking about it...and I'm doing my research. Thank you for the information you guys provide
It’s our pleasure Matt! We love being able to help get people out the door. Plenty of videos on the channel to help you brainstorm. #timetobinge 🤙🏽
You get great discounts on hotels and the pay is often pretty good depending on the position you’re in and the location.
inspiring stuff guys! well done! Can you please share the link to your vlog on studying in Scandinavia? :)
i couldn`t find this video too
Being a flight attendant sounds like such a cool job, not to mention it'd make backpacking a lot easier and cheaper. You guys just inspired me to send out applications to a whole bunch of airlines.
it seems cool but you wont have time to actually see the country
I like this man... it was real and short! Much appreciated tips fellas!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing..
You people look so genuine
I taught English abroad and it wasn't my thing. I am planning to move to Serbia soon and will continue to try to grow with my channel and blog. Also, travel freelance writing has been a good source of income for me too!
Nice! Teaching isn't for everyone. 😜
do you need to be fluent in the foreign language to teach English? do you need a teaching degree? thanks :)
Kyle Dake I would assume you'd have to be fluent
Jess on a Quest which website did you write for if you don't mind my asking?
Jess on a Quest how did you get your teaching job abroad if you dnt mind
OMG !! IT'S LIKE YOU GUYS KNEW THE ANSWERS TO ALL OF MY QUESTIONS, THANKS A LOT VAGABROS. HOPE TO MEET YOU SOMETIME.
Thankyou for helping travelling aspirants across the world👍🏻❤️
Taught English in Japan and was the best thing I have even done!! Great list you got here :-)
Can you share a link to the program you did? I'm sure others will appreciate the pointer!
The best program is the JET Program jetprogramme.org/en/ But you can also work at conversation schools or private companies.
I am an aupair and travelled soooooo much in summer !! It's great ! You are always broke if you spend all your money at the weekends for travels but you stay at the family's house, get food and work anyway 😄 I always try to eat "at home" to safe money and don't do so much stuff during the week
nadia von ko
tell me more about ur visa pleas ??
what type of visa u had if u work as an au pair? ?
working or student ? or what they call it ?
How'd you get into being an aupair Nadia?
This video makes me think completely different about traveling, love your videos!!
That's our goal!
Nice guys I'm starting my own blogs just today .... Ohh wish me luck lol
good luck!
Congrats
Great advice! I'll keep all of this in mind during my travel vlogging pursuits :-)
Thank you so much for the video :D So inspirational ❤️ You are the best keep the spirit ❤️ with love from Tunisia.
yuhuu! one of the least frustrating videos on the topic (it sounds bad but it is actually a great compliment
I became a chef to travel the world :) it is really easy to find work as a chef anywhere in the world as long as you are willing to work long hours under pressure and still be able to enjoy what you do
Great advice there... looking forward to traveling the world by showing my hobby.
I just discovered your channel and already loved it! Keep it up :)
love all the pics and clips of Galway. especially NUIG where I went to college.
i'm studying law in hopes of getting into diplomacy, 'travelling' the world through my job seems awesome!
come on...where were you guys till this time...loved it...continue to inspire.
You guys helped me out a lot in my life choices ,now im going to follow my dream in traviling the world thanks a lot !!
Best of luck
Thanks for sharing
nice video! thanks guys! I will go this summer in Portugal as a volunteer to surf:) Hope someday I can finance my travels like you do!
This is amazing! I have never thought of most of these jobs even tho I LOVE travelling and also travel a lot! Who knows maybe one day :)
Have seen a lot of your videos... excellent work guys... RESPECT!!!
Thank you 🙏🏼
This is what I am working towards.
Teaching English:
Would you not have to be fluent in the local language in order to first teach English?
Working on a Cruise Ship/Private Yaught:
Where are jobs like this typically advertised? I've always liked the thought of doing something like this but never could figure out how it would be possible.
Being a nanny:
Do you not need qualifications to do this?
PureSeedTV I'd be more than interested in discussing it!! Would you like to exchange emails?
+Joe Wearing sure! I'm excited to get to know you! My email is me@elianecarbajal.com
Cool!! I've just emailed you then:)
Awesome video guys!! Very helpful for future world travelers :)
I just recently started reading the 4 hour work week, its great!
Pure value and inspiration right here!
when I was in college last year I asked if I can do an internship abroad for the summer. the internship was to help missionaries in their ministry and I spent the summer in Taiwan and I went back during Christmas break. then I discovered what I wanted to do.
Really interesting video as always guys!
Cheers!
I had a tour of London's street art from that same guy! And he was wearing that same pink shirt too!
Small world! He does a great tour of London street art!
😂 the tour was great though
My current plan is to work as a live-in nanny in the UK next year (moving from New Zealand) and save for a year and then use my savings to travel the world as much as I can while working on my blog/TH-cam channel.
"Vagabonding" by Rolf Potts is also a great book on the subject. Love you guys, keep up the great content. Cheers!
Great book!! We have recommended that in many videos!
Just got the travel bug at over fifty. Wish I had it when I was younger. I am enjoying your videos! I find you guys well spoken, fun, and video quality excellent! Congrats on the new home and you silver play button.
+thewifeypoo thank you so much. Cheers for watching our other videos :)
Flight attendant here and starting to vlog. Sometimes its had to find time to edit my videos. Im also trying to purchase better camera and need another go pro. But hopefully ill get to do some amazing youtube videos helpful for those who dont travel often or simply visiting a city for the first time!
Great video, loved the tips fellas! Currently working on my TEFL qualification, although I hear a lot of South East Asian countries don't require one.
Cheers!! Have fun teaching :)
Both of you are so amazing. Thanks for the video
+Ari Suryani thank you Ari! Hope you subbed, many more videos on the way!
Great tip!
Great ideas ! Wish you the best in your travels :)
Awesome video guys! But there are already too many travel blogs and vlogs. How can I cope with the competition?
I lived in Whistler for 3 years working the ski season and traveling America during the off season. Pay wasn't great but I was smart with my money AND you get a free season pass and big discounts on food (plus some other perks). Also, who wouldn't want to wake up every morning, look outside their window and be surrounded by snow capped mountains?!! Now that I'm back in Australia I've managed to score myself a job that offers the possibility of an overseas transfer plus traveling around Australia itself, and I will be doing my TEFL course soon to give myself options. If you want something bad enough you'll find a way to make it happen ;)
Sounds like you got it worked out!
This is such an awesome video! Thank You!
+Souly Trini thanks Souly!! ✌🏼
You can do border control,be in 2 countries at once, find seasonal industries where you can be at different locations some or part of a year!
i'm finishing school next year in summer and want to travel before going to university, so i'm always looking for good opportunities.
this video and the comments on it are very helpful!
thanks! :)
The comments are the best part! We always encourage our audience to share their own advice as well!
