Guthrie's actual songs are much more satisfying instead of him doing a clinic. Anything from his album "Erotic Cakes" is nice. I particularly like "Fives" and "Wonderful Slippery Thing" as highlights.
He also played in the band "The Aristocrats". That material is just wild and crazy musicianship on everyone's parts. I couldn't even begin to pick one. Just jump in.
The public doesn't know guys like him but us guitar players know. ;)

The record companies dictate what the majority are listening to while great players like this remain mainly underground unless you read guitar magazines. A quick search of his name will show you who he`s played for and his solo work.
To an extent i guess, but let's be honest, the majority of people wouldn't like Guthrie's music either way. He is a player's player. I've been to one of his gigs. He asked how many people there are musicians and you can guess the answer: every single person in the room.
Most people don't want to listen to anything complicated. Hell, even i don't particularly like Guthrie's actual songs with the aristocrats for example, aside from a few. It's certainly far from being pleasing to the ears of most.
That was a great reaction and comment to Govan's playing, mate! Keep up the great work! 👍👏
Damn, my old guitar teacher from 20 years ago. I wish you watched his proper performance of waves and wonderful slippery thing. He is one of the most technically proficient and musically minded guitarists you will ever see. He performs along side Joe Satriani and Steve Vai quite often.

We do hear guys like him on some of the best tracks out there. Producers, studios and guys you have heard of love guys like him to make their work sound great. Guitar magazine named him guitarist of the year in 1993.

His using the chords from Waves becuase someone in the crowd asked if he could use waves as an example on how different scales work over the same chords.
GUTHRIE is on another level. He has mastered all guitar techniques, and can play with feel too, which is amazing! Check out his band The Aristocrats. It is a power trio, and all three members are top-tier musicians.

Ah, Guthrie Govan, great virtuoso guitar player, he is next level up there with Steve Vai and the like. Hans Zimmer hired him for his live tours and was amazed by him saying "This man is about as good as you can get"...yes Hans Zimmer himself was amazed at his ability. I'm not really into his stuff too much, but you should definitely check out a proper song by him, he's great.

Please look up a young blues guitarist called Toby Lee. He is 13 now but even when he was 5 he was insane . On his channel on youtube, named after him he recently performed with Buddy Guy on stage.

I also love how he kinda planned to stop the blues-y thing, going as far as to utter "but...", but then he just couldn't resist taking that little thing just a bit further. It's like he interrupted himself, somehow.
Guthrie Govan is considered the most technically advanced guitarist alive. Shawn Lane is the most technically advanced to have ever lived and he is one of Guthrie's major influences. Yes, in the guitar world, Guthrie Govan is HUGE.
I dont think I have ever heard Guthrie cite Shawn Lane as even a slight influence let alone a major one. Zappa? Yes. Paul Kossoff. Other 70s style rock guitarists sure. Never Shawn Lane. Got a link to where he said that?
@@sacredgeometry, you do know, Guthrie got major recognition for transcribing a lot of Shawn's work, right? Yes, he has absolutely cited Shawn. I am just a peon on the internet, but I also played the Memphis scene for 10 years and knew Shawn personally, have met Guthrie and people like Paul Gilbert. I know a bit more than the average person when it comes to the high-end guitar world. I am a washed up, middle aged guitarist now, but I was in the middle of it 3 decades ago.

Guthrie is most likely the best guitarist in the world.. there are only a few that come close to his talent. One the few that shred and still keep "feeling" in his playing.

Yeah, Guthrie Govan is really awesome and creative. If you like listening to him play, you should also try listening to Bumblefoot, really talented and just like Guthrie, he also has a sense of humour.
Guthrie Govan is possibly the most incredible player ever! His phrasing skills are unmatched and it's a shame his name isn't on the tip of everyone's tongues the way Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Beck and Van Halen have been!

Guthrie Govan is only big within guitarist's circles. The song itself is a bit different - more overdrive/gain. Please please please please react to Cry For You by Andy Timmons. Another extremely good guitarist that's pretty much only big within guitarist circles. I think you'd love that song.
