    Amazing right hand control, seemingly effortless. IMO, Govan is to be admired not only for his musical prowess and dexterity, but also his willingness to educate. Only true masters have the self confidence to instruct others on how they do the magic they do.

    It's simple, you only have to fight 3 dragons blindfolded with a wooden spoon while protecting 10 paralyzed babies at the same time.

    • @TheTsunamijuan
      @TheTsunamijuan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is really easy, no need for the babies. Just make sure you have have peanut butter on the spoon. Dragons are easy to get by when their mouths are stuck shut with peanut butter!

    Some people just don't know how gifted they are! When he says it's really not that difficult. I took some lessons from Paul Gilbert back before he was famous. I remember him saying to me, "It's just three notes moving up and down the neck". You can imagine the expression on my face when demonstrated 'how easy' it was! God bless their modest and humble souls.

      Some people think that 4 guys pushing buttons on a laptop is "art." You know of whom I speak .. Kraftwerk. I do NOT think of them as art at all. These people think that mastery of an instrument is pretentious. They prefer simpler sounds, like The Ramones. Don't misunderstand me, there's nothing at all wrong with The Ramones. But I couldn't listen to three-chord bands all day, no way. I need some wizardry too. I like listening to people like Mr. Govan.

      Just 'cause you haven't heard of a "better" one (as terribly unsophisticated and subjective of a term "better" implies), doesn't mean he/she doesn't exist. Though in the public's eye, few have impressed me like Guthrie as well. In terms of musicality in the guitar world, I think of John Petrucci, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Paul Gilbert to name a few. Though, everyone plays so different, I could never say anyone of them is better than another. We can all shine!

    I think personally and from experience of trying to get fast 16th note triplets to sound good, you really need to hone your general rhythm abilities to the point where you can implement that 32nd note burst without thinking about the rhythm or timing too much, because otherwise everytime you anticipate the burst you will lock up slightly. It needs to be as automatic as walking

    when he goes really fast his right hand position seems to change drastically! any ideas how/why? May it be time for Troy Grady to start looking at strumming technique?

      I think his hand moves just a little to keep the muting consistent. That's what it looks like anyway.

    •  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Allan Holdsworth is extreme good in one area and that's it. Guthrie Govan can play every style at the highest level.

      René Schermer Guthrie Govan on Allan Holdsworth: "Allan has his own planet - he's really taken everything that's unique about himself and exaggerated it, to the point where he's playing scales that he's invented working over chords that he's invented. Allan's world is very hard to adapt to any other music - he's like this self-contained musical universe.
      There are a handful of people in the world now who are doing passable imitations of what Allan was doing 30 years ago. And it's obviously taken years to do it, and they just sound like Allan clones: I don't see the point.
      There are other players where it's easier to borrow some of the things that you've seen them do, and say: that player has shown me the way. For instance, Eric Johnson made me realise that it's okay to try and use this sound and play that kind of chord voicing. And that stuff is maybe easier to adapt into your playing. But Allan...
