Guthrie is definitely in a class of his own as far as guitarist go. His most notable aspect to me is just his fluidity on guitar. I assume that's atleast partially a result of having learned so young. Where most of us pick up guitar atleast a decent number of years after learning to speak, Guthrie basically learned guitar along with basic language. So just picture being as comfortable playing guitar as you do speaking. Its truly a rare instance. That's what I believe sets him apart from others in my opinion. Guitar is a secondary language to us if we're lucky. To Guthrie, it's simply how he speaks.
2:25 - 2:32 change from softer playing to this..and that part itself.. is so good and strong and impossible to desribe you can't even talk during that it just makes you goosebumb every time
Holy sh*t that first clip of him playing a solo is a masterpiece, if thats him improvising oh my god. One of the most well versed guitar gods in the world but so unappreciated by the guitar world, fate truly loves irony.
I agree hes amazing but this was not technical at all and that type vibrato is the easiest I think you can do with bending vibratos . He is way more technical than what you played
All the jazzy "Fellowship" sessions involve both brothers Govan, and brilliant drums, sax (Zak Barrett, I think?) and keys too. God, that stuff is beyond fantastic. The "Live at the Bassment" bootleg-ish CD I've had for a decade is still my favorite record of all time.
