😆 It's the same journey we see every time. "One Piece is trash" to "One Piece is overhyped" to "One Piece is okay" to "I'm really starting to like One Piece" to "Wow, the world building is insane" to "One Piece is peak!"
@@speed1787 I'm curious. What would you say prevents it from being higher for you? I did glimpse your comment before the edit and you mentioned geared more toward kids than other shonen. What does it lack as far as maturity in its storytelling?
@@gleeman959 Sorry if my English is bad, it's my second language🙏🙏 It's a LONG list: (A lot of people complain that people say they hate stuff/think stuff are mediocre without giving the reason but that's because the reason is very long) So let's start with the obvious: it's a show for kids that gets his life out squeezed out of SO there are filler episodes that you can't escape from because they aren't technically filler they have some plot in it but the filler is integrated inside of the plot So basically 99% of One Piece episodes are around 80% Filler and 20% Actual plot. For example: It took 4 episodes before we learned that hordy told to the first Son of Neptune that he killed his mother and the 4 episodes were just them swimming to get to each other like a Chase. In Amazon Lily there are 3 WHOLE episodes where they just shoot arrows at Luffy. In Dressrosa where I am now it took them 20 episodes to just stop walking in the city, (Zoro being lost and Sanji being with violet). So when I get to the end of the long arc and the so-called hype final moments/conclusion happens I don't care anymore, I just want to finish the ark and move on, One Piece don't have a pacing problem it has a pacing death sentence. THE FIGHTS: In Marineford before the fights we were told like 50 times about how strong the 7 worlds are in the fact that they're going to be there also the 3 admirals so I started to get hyped, but in the end it was 50 episodes of just Luffy running and not fighting anyone more than throwing 3-4 punches sometimes (so a fight would be like four punches each but it would last 3 episodes). The fighting in general in One Piece and at least where I am is always lackluster, I was not hyped from a single fight in the show just because though is so much talking and cuts to another place every 3 minutes. PLOT ARMOR: The characters have incredibly big plot armor that gets them out of danger every time (bc it's a show for kids) and it's on full display because Luffy doesn't make a plan so they go in situations where they should die but they don't, almost all the time (Like when Enel shot everyone in skypia, when this hawk man died in Alabasta... (there are really like a thousand more plot armor incidents I just can't think of any of the top of my head). Now for the controversial takes: I hate Luffy I really do, I hate the idea of a dumb main character but Goku is ok, Luffy is insufferable. He's acting like a child all the time letting his crue do all the strategy and tell him all the pros and cons of the situation (because he can't figure out the obvious on its own). And also like he said, not making a plan so his crew always have to use plot armor. Where was he when they fought Moria? where was he when they thought Enel? same answer, wandering alone in a forest. And his comments are always: "I don't want to", "I'm going to beat this guy's ass" and of course "I'm gonna be king of the Pirates" (Those are the comments of a 4-year-old). Like I said I just finished Dressrosa, and he just passed on the opportunity to have a fleet with all the pirates he met in Dressrosa, something that would make him a Yonko almost immediately. I get that he supposed to be the freest man in the world but you're confusing free for dumb. (And for the last hot take from what I can remember (I've watched 700 episodes you're bound to forget stuff you didn't like when you first saw). Ace's death was uncharacteristic: (I've actually heard a good counter argument for what I'm going to say but I'm still believing in my opinion) Ace was known to be Reckless at the beginning of the series that's what got him to that position, but Ace changed in Marineford (but was still done dirty which is sad because he's one of my favorite characters in one piece). Ace gave one of my favorite speeches in one piece about him finally wanting to live after he saw what his life meant for so many people... And for one tease from Akainu to make him turn all that into garbage? that's not the kind of speech you just go back on. It made his character growth entirely meaningless, it was executed just to give Luffy emotional baggage that he desperately need but sadly it didn't make him grow up.

One of my favorite things is seeing people go from "one piece is over hiped", to "I guess it is ok".... to "one piece is goated, we miss bon clay"... the pacing is pretty bad, but I would say it gets worse after the time skip.... so pre time is kinda smooth in comparison.
@@Maria-fq8rk i continued in the anime until wano, there i switched to the manga later on, i stopped watching the anime in that episode... in the sumo thing at the start of the arc, but when the anime get those sakuga moments, i watch them
I never actually understood why people who haven't watched OP assume that the show is boring or overhyped just because is long. I think it's precisilly the oposite. Why the hell would someone watch 1000+ episodes of some mid shonen? The fact that the series stand out to this day and managed to capture even more new fans should mean something.
Exactly. Long running manga usually get a "reputation" after a while that, jokingly or not, calls out their more glaring shortcomings. The fact that the most common criticism of one piece remains as "it's overhyped", "it's too long" or "I don't vibe with the art style" despite the series being around for so long should speak volumes for its quality.
@@kiranikib42but oda mentioned that the anime will have a single episode that will not be included in the manga so he gives anime only watchers a bit of attention too
@@ddb3389nah drum island changed me and made me accept that one piece was pure magic. It happens so much sooner for people who are paying attention to the story over the fights.
One Piece is fantastic, but that doesn't make other anime worse. I never understand how people can think something is bad just because another good thing exists.
You are right one piece doesn’t make other anime worse! I don’t know why others think that! The issue is that one piece is so much better than most other media that even the “good” anime aren’t enough to scratch the itch anymore. Things like demon slayer are hardly watchable to one piece lovers. This doesn’t make those shows bad, but it does make them somewhat mid in the eyes of many one piece watchers.
I don't think so, in my humble opinion this anime is superior, we've been 3 weeks without an episode and I don't plan on starting to watch other anime, in fact I started reading the manga, a friend insists that I should start watching others but they just don't reach the level of One Piece. I don't think everyone has to think the same but one piece its other level of anime
My logic for this would be: How do you like Attack on Titan? - Amazing show, really outstanding, one of my favourites these past years How do you like Attack on Titan compared to One Piece? - meh, alright but only dirt on the foot of One Piece One Piece does not make other anime worse, but to compare it correctly, you might need to use strong vocabulary that makes the difference clear
The "overhype" term WILL fall short the more you look back and notice how far we've come, is so used to the point it barely means anything, HELL, the animators themselves are such big fans of one piece they out-do themselves and produce movie quality episodes lately. When the one piece community "hypes" the show its cause they are caught up, ITS A BIG SHOW with a tons of lore and as you learn more about the world and certain things from earlier interactions with people and items you probably thought meant nothing at the time, you come to think one piece is truly a special show. The fans are just fully proud to be part of this journey. The show GIVES back to the community, theres so much love between the fans, the animators, and Oda.
I agree. I didn't start to LOVE One Piece until the end of Alabasta. Then I realized it was PEAK during the Enies Lobby/Water7 arc. Nothing has scratched my itch since the...incident in marineford but I liked Dressrosa and just started Wano, which I've heard is also peak
I didn't like shonen anime, i drop naruto after 100 episodes, bleach, mha. But my friend tried to convince me to watch One Piece almost a year, and last month i give it a try Now im at 433 episode, almost end pre-skip, and for me its one of the best media fiction that i watch. I like this spirit, freedom, amazing characters and designs. I wish I had started One Piece earlier, when i was younger (Sorry if there's some mistakes, english not even my second language :p)
Well... I have some free time now, and rn I'm at 471 episode, so 1 more day and pre-skip done. And yes, these episodes are awesome, Bon Clay was MVP :D
I will say as someone whos caught up with the manga and 25 episodes till I'm caught up with the anime when you get to timeskip, obviously if you want, read the manga. The anime, while really good, drags a lot sometimes in timeskip and sometimes will leave you bored when Luffy is running for the 15th time this arc. Obviously do what you want since you can't go wrong with either but some arcs are brutal to get through
So you're telling me you're at east blue... and you think it's overhyped? Buddy...let me tell you it hasn't even started yet. By the fans. Arlong Park = When fans fell in love with One Piece. Ennies Lobby = "I'm gonna ride and die with my captain" Ask anybody who already read or watch the anime. They would probably say the same thing. One Piece is good if you're not rushing, enjoy it as is and don't skip. Thanks for riding on this journey. May we both find the One Piece treasure together someday.
Honestly I was already there with Luffy by Drum Island, the rest just cemented that he's my Captain again and again and again. I just love how emotionally intelligent he is, how interesting his perspective is when reading a situation, how he adapts, how much he loves his people.

Glad you are enjoying it so far. I dont agree with the "overhype" part. Not for AOT nor OP. Its just hype. People love these shows and they hype them, just like anything else. There's almost always a degree of exaggeration when hyping something. Like "strawberries are the best fruit ever". You get 'Strawberries might be good. To this person they are awesome.". By the cheer number of fans around the world, we can safely say there's something very special with one piece. Thats it.
One Piece is a show to enjoy. If you have the goal of "conquering" it watching it for the sake of "I have watched it" will actually a lessen the experience. You have to enjoy it so that the journey is worth it. There will be times that you'll be binging it, times where you watch while maybe cleaning your house, times where you think you have to take a break from watching it, times when you can't wait for another one. It's a journey
my bff would always say it was such a good anime but i always thought it looked childish months ago i finally gave it a shot and i absolutely loved it now i'm currently in the last chapter
It ain't just One Piece fandom that talks bad about other shows. Bleach fans do it, Dragonball fans do it, Naruto fans do it - even to their own side stories, no less.
@@Anonymous25012 for me its was my first anime. and knowing nothing about anime so i too ended up watching all of it. at that point whole cake arc kinda ended, so i stopped, and now idk when i will go start wano arc.
I understand why you say it's overhyped but i do think that opinion will change. East Blue saga is basically the prologue to one piece. What comes next is alabasta saga which is vastly superior in my opinion, then we get Skypeia which is pretty good but not great and then we start getting into the reason why one piece is the biggest anime around: Water 7 and Enies Lobby and then Sabaody to Marineford. That those stretches of one piece are it's absolute peak in my humble opinion. My favorite part of one piece is how literally everything becomes important again at some point in the future and you really aren't deep enough into the show to have seen that start to happen. The scope of the world is absolutely enormous and as you keep learning more about it it will feel more and more alive. One Piece is the ultimate slow burn show where the more you watch it the better it gets. I hope you enjoy your journey friend and i will def check in to see future parts!
I literally got chills reading "Water 7, Enies Lobby, Sabaody, and Marineford". This is definitely the best run of multiple arcs in OP in my opinion. My favorite arc of all time tho is Alabasta just because I loved the characters, the villians, the place in general, and ofc the X marks and Vivi's face. I think it's because Alabasta really cemented that I'd fully commit to OP and love every second of it.
Im a firm believer that if you want to say something is overhyped or bad, you have to watch the same amount as the person you disagree with first so you have the same context. Obviously, the opinion of someone who has seen all the episodes will be different from someone who has only watched around 50, you have completely different context and perspective. For example I'm an AoT hater, but not just because I hate it, I watched it, I read it, I came to the conclusion that I didn't think It was good, I have all the context, I understand the story, I still didn't like it.
I think so many people get overwhelmed with One Piece because they feel rushed to catch up or focus too much on power scaling. For me, One Piece is really about the journey, character development, and relationships. It has a special kind of charm. At its core, One Piece is a story about found family. Gathering broken people and giving them the freedom to be themselves. Let it be fun and don't let others dictate how you enjoy it.
People who havent started One Piece: "oh my god, there's too many episodes!" People who are caught up with One Piece: "oh my god, there's not enough episodes!"
"it also helps that i'm watching the series dub" spoiler free: just discussing the benefits n potential issue of watching dub. honestly I can agree to this. when I began my one piece journey during covid I was new to anime and wanted to get into One Piece and the dub is honestly not bad looking back at it. The only issue with this is that you'll be behind the sub in the eps and cannot even join in the anime only discussion for one piece. When I faced this issue in covid, the dub was on hold at Punk Hazard and Sub was at start of Wano. For Nic With No 'K' or other dub watchers, changing from dub to sub is a huge gap and cannot be overlooked so easily. The way I handled this was rewatch the One Piece Specials eps like East Blue with the sub cast and rewatch random eps to get familiar with the sub.
Can go head and take that Overhyped part out my boy 😭 Deciding to watch OP was simple for me. It had almost 1000 episodes at the time, I get it that’s A lot of episodes. But in my mind I thought “Well what studio would make almost 1000 episodes of something if it was trash or people didn’t like it?”. 3-4 years later I’m pulling my hair out on a 2 week break 🤣
watching one piece and experiencing one piece isn't exactly the same thing, once you catch up and wait for a weekly release, you will then experience that you're on a literal journey and theorize alongside the one piece community, I just remember oda dropped a big lore with a cliffhanger then break for 3 weeks, people are crazy with their theories but still not got it😂
I feel like when people “overhype” something. It’s not necessarily their fault because how they talk about the given series is genuinely how they feel. Obviously not everyone has to think their way but they feel that way so can talk about how amazing it is to them. To overhype something is just being a big fan of something and saying your feelings regarding it.
Cool vid! Glad you're enjoying the series so far, can't wait for you to see the rest. You might have to reconsider the One Pace decision when you get to the later sagas, though... 😬 This part of the series has, generally fairly good pacing for a long-running weekly series. You'll see.
"Now that I've watched it, I can say it's definitely over hyped." Bro ate the equivalent of a single pea of his three course dinner and is like, "I don't know what ya'll were ranting and raving about, this tastes alright." 😂 Also, you watched all of East Blue and this is all you had to comment on? Interesting... Hopefully you share more of your thoughts in the future because there's a lot you can talk about in just this first saga.
“Overhyped” is inaccurate. I had a friend get caught and we watch episode 1070 and a few together and he specifically told me I DID NOT over hype it. You can’t. It’s worth it. Glad you’re watching! Also I’m sorry but demon slayer is ONLY pretty. Just my opinion though.
Regarding the pacing, Toei is currently reworking the most notoriously paced arcs while taking a break from adapting the most recent story to keep up the recent increase in quality, so it's definitely something to look forward to in the future.
"Filler ridden mid tier shonen" honestly that's how I feel about Toei's adaptation. I could never get into one piece even when I really tried to watch the anime. I ended up reading the manga, and now it's one of my favorite series of all time.
I read a few arcs in the manga and honestly I liked the anime more sure the pacing is bad but I feel like it really makes you feel hyped for victories and more sad for deaths but that’s just my opinion
@@shisuiedits id say that the anime is just inconsistent, like from water 7 - marineford was really good for its time, id give that like an 8/10 and luffy vs katakuri - now has definitely been like a 9 or a 10 tbh, but its definitely had its bad moments in the anime (fishman island to middle of whole cake)
@@shisuiedits Disagree, OP fans got over-critical of the anime's problems after years of rewatches making the pacing more unbearable for them, but for a first time viewer the anime is nowhere near 4/10, more like 7-8/10, which i think would become abundantly obvious if you compared it to any genuine 4/10 show.
trust, One Piece is NOT overhyped, it just needs time, as everything builds up on each other and the world gets bigger and bigger, the Series also get's more Interesting. The pacing sucks tho
Note that the pacing will become worth and worth. At the start, it was updating 2 chapters per episode, per currently, it is updating 0.5 chapter per episode. I really advise the manga. Also, if you watch the anime, note that openings and episode titles may have insane spoilers.
@@numberhunter62 Dressrosa was the worst offender for me. It was actually the only time where I audibly complained about not getting to certain fights, seeing the same things over and over, and progressing so slowly. I bet you could skip an episode every now and again in the arc and be perfectly fine piecing (no pun intended) together what happened in the episode you skipped.
Watching East Blue and making a judgment call on the whole series is like watching the first episode of any other anime. Maybe you enjoyed the first episode, but you have yet to know what the future holds.
As someone who's a big fan of One Piece but also a fan of the other shows you mentioned, i personally don't understand "this anime over that" sort of mentality. One Piece feels intimitading to outsiders sure, yet it's still pretty easy to catch up which i learned with oldest of my little siblings who didn't even tell me he started to watch it. (He's in the current arc with me) The point is that we One Piece fans, do have the time to watch other shows yet people in the internet (even if isn't One Piece) talk about animes as if it's the only anime that they watch. I agree with the thing with Usopp, i think his character growth is one of the most enjoyable ones to watch in the crew considering his own dream. "Bravery doesn't mean you can't fear things" fits him so well, he's on a journey where his lies can become the true stories. There's also a very special point in One Piece and Usopp is the key character to it, not going to spoil it tho but i kinda wonder why people hate him even when he's such a well written character.
Oh lol almost everyone thinks "too long for me", dudes please tell me what's wrong. Every fan doesn't want One Piece to end, so why lots of people suffer from episode count before watching...
Im glad your not one to be afraid of watching a dub. I personally can't read and watch at the same time so I either dont see whats happening or understand any context.
i dont know, maybe you have a condition, but i was the same some years ago, and with a bit of training it became natural. I was adamant when i was younger that i would only watch dub because i wanted to be able to watch what the character was doing. I did not want to miss subtle details due to the fact that i had to read the subtitles. But with some practice, it became natural, and oh boy, having the original version of everything and reading subtitles gave me so much more than i expected. My point is, even if it is hard to watch sub only movies or anime, it is worth the training to be able to do it at some point and experience the true acting/voice of a character (in case of anime, japanese have a reputation to hold, and there is a reason for it). Just my opinion tho. Have a good day
3:46 this phrase coming from somebody who just started watching the show really... encapsulates a very specific characterisct of luffy that will only be shown to you in like, 1000 episodes from where you are. People who are there know what I am talking about, and really just shows how Oda really set this characteristic for luffy since the beggining.
Honestly the overhyping and dumping on other shows comes from us trying to recommend one piece to friends we know would love it but refuse to give it a chance. Especially if those friends complain about the length but still watched naruto and bleach. Its just us being frustrated.
that naruto part is so real. One piece is too long according to them but, they watched all of naruto and shippuden and glaze it so much when it aint that good imo
One piece is like a mountain. You gotta climb your way through all the sagas and arcs, they have their ups and downs but once you are caught up you reach the peak of the mountain. Modern day one piece is phenomenal and leagues better than the earlier arcs in my opinion.
How about stop saying its overhyped when you havn't even gotten to the hyped parts? If you still think its overhyped by Ennis Lobby then maybe your points might be somewhat more valid.
The One Piece anime is very overhyped, the manga lives up to its reputation. One Pace actually does have an easy way to watch on mobile now, all episodes on their website link straight to their Pixeldrain streams! Worth mentioning One Pace also corrects a lot of mistranslations in the standard Crunchyroll/Netflix subs, uncensors a lot of moments and even redraws entire characters in certain scenes to correct animation/coloring errors. It's overall an experience much closer to Oda's original intention than vanilla One Piece and keeps things moving along at a brisk pace from start to finish
Do you think you could add some of your favorite moments/gags and then your least favorite moments/gags? Especially since you are watching dub, it would be interesting to see your perspective on those
@Bad_memes-23 ikr I like demon slayer I don't really have problem about how simple it's story was not everything needs to be complex But MHA let's be honest it's legacy will go downhill after the anime finish It will be remembered at similar vein as fairytail 🤣
Insta-sub new one piece readers/watchers are some of my favorite content. It only gets better the further you go. I think one of the things that is so captivating about the series aside from the world building and unique characters is all the mysteries and minor details that foreshadow the answers to said mysteries. Engaging with the community and trying to fit the pieces of the puzzle together is highly enjoyable, at least to me. I feel once it wraps up it will lose a lot of that allure, but will still be worth your time in the end. Welcome to the crew mate, I hope you grow to love it like the rest of us.
@mattcatt1165 Even by East Blue standards, Don Krieg is an afterthought. Dude showed up after already having got his ass kicked and Zoro v Mihawk was far and away the better fight of the arc inspite of it being one sided and it happens before his fight with Luffy. His gimmick is pretty lame. "What have you got?" "Guns." "Okay, what else?" "More guns." "Is that it?" "I have a pointy shield! :D" He doesn't impact the story in a meaningful way. It feels like his main purpose is to provide conflict so Nami can sneak off and set up Arlong Park. If you cut him from the story and just leave him dead off screen you really don't miss out on anything, just someone for Luffy to punch. And he doesn't have any meaningful interactions between any other characters. He shows up begging for help and the moment he gets it he's just a douche to everyone around him, including his own crew. That's it. Now compare that to any of the East Blue baddies and Don Krieg is the lamest in basically every regard. You could maybe make an argument for Alvida, but she's got two things going for her. She has an interesting devil fruit and she's hot. Don Krieg's most memorable quality is how forgettable he is.
@@poshbumold-taku371 Don Kreig was there to show how Luffy can fight against people who are in a difficult environment and who have multiple tricks. This applies to the east blue Buggy and Arlong are a lot better but he's fine for the early part of the show. The main comment was about how the creator of the video was weird for liking Don Krieg which I disagree with, I think that he was fine.
As i rewatched Baratie, i too found Don Krieg to be rather cool. I saw some depth in him other people haven't noticed. Maybe it's because i analyzed every scene, everything Don Krieg did in the arc XD

i gotta say tho, those original voice actors are sublime, so if you're liking the emotional moments in the dubbed version, the originals are oh so much better. It's not about the discussion between original vs dubbed, its about this particular cast, they are phenomenal.

if you watch it in dub, you'll loose the essence + goosebumbs + intended vibe or narration by the original character the iconic scenes dont hit the same with dub 1 small / big example without spoilers : in one of the iconic scenes in one piece, one of straw hat crew members asking for help and wanted to live, she screams franticly with her shaken voice that she wanted to live, that scene only works with the original voice actor it doesnt hit the spot with english dub, as alot of emotional expression/respons sounds cringe in english also through time, their original voices will give u the effects of nostalgia, their screams and laughter is better in original dub : make it feel like its a good show, good voice 'acting' original : will make u feel like they really exists, theyre not an anime character, it has weight and soul im telling u its not too late to ditch the dub, trust me on this
Good call to ignore the assholes hating on other shows in order to boost OP in others' eyes. Like you said these are my comfy anime.
The reason that One Piece is "overhyped" is because of its world building, its foreshadowing and callbacks, its antagonists, its backstories and lastly the long standing mysteries and plotlines. You have not gotten a taste of any of the above except for Nami's backstory. Alabasta will give you a glimpse, Skypiea will make you think you see it now but Water 7 and what comes beyond will blow you away, and make you realise that OP is not over hyped! PS Minor SPOILERS There are three things OP has already set up hundreds of episodes in advance. Jimbei was name dropped by Arlong, Dragon made a cameo appearance, and Shanks scared away a Sea King just by glaring at it!
It would be really cool if you have a section on each video about what you felt while watching the episodes since one of the best things about One Piece are the feels, the way sometimes even goofylike characters you never tought would, make you feel so profoundly wether its happyness, sadness, rage and just plain empathy
A good way to talk about a one piece arc would be to go over 1. Pacing of the arc 2. The villains role in the arc 3. How the current state of the story affected the strawhats 4. Your current mind set on what the one piece might be or anything to do with information that has yet to be revealed in the story so far. This should be a good starting point but you could always add more things to this list
Dub is just not the same. Vibes are different. Even the meaning of some lines are different and carry less weight... I highly suggest you watch the sub.
I will say East Blue is simply the prequel and, imo, it gets way better as it goes on. Because East Blue is the prequel of the story, I will say that I think your assessment of whether or not it is over hyped will be better after the Alabasta/Arabasta arc. By no means do I think that is the best arc/saga, but it is the first saga that follows the typical One Piece structure. You still won't get a lot of the hidden gems that changes how you see things 500 chapters back nor get a chance to be amazed at the forshadowing yet, but it will be a lot closer to the core of what One Piece really is.
I would suggest finding a list of which episodes are filler and then skipping most of them, some of the filler explicitly contradicts information that is provided later in the anime. Although do watch the G-8 filler, that one’s great. If you’re not going to skip the filler than you should at least find out what is filler just so you know.
It’s only the one arc that sorta contradicts things and even with that, that seems like a total coincidence. And overall that arc was pretty enjoyable.
I was convinced by my brother to start One Piece, and I have loved it ever since the first episode! So excited you’re giving it a try! I prefer the dub version as well, so…
I think One Piece is a show that I personally don't think is too overhyped. Main reason being is because the show just gets better in terms of story and the lore and all the history and all the new mysterious characters and new powers and new areas you encounter along the journey and there are many later arcs that just solidify the show as being a top tier anime. Most people go in thinking it's just another overhyped anime then they watch it and finish East Blue and say it's alright and that Nami's story was done well and how that saga was good enough that they'll keep watching (BTW "arcs" and "sagas" are different and a saga is a COLLECTION of arcs that forms a larger story within the show such as the East Blue saga being all the episodes leading up to the time the Straw Hats first head to the Grand Line). People will then watch more and more and slowly become more and more intrigued by the show and then once you get to episode 227 the couple dozen episodes before are kinda bad and the first episode of that canon arc is worth watching but IMO the rest of those are not because most of them are filler and even 90%+ of the canon characters are irrelevant (229 is the next arc) and that arc is what gets people truly intrigued by this show then the saga as a whole which does start at 207 just solidifies the show for most people as being top 3 also this is the first saga that was released in HD although it was 720p and NOT full HD and the first HD episode in this saga was released in 2004 which goes to show how far ahead Japan was with tech because here in the UK I didn't know anyone with a 720p TV till like 2007 ish and even then they had for the PS3 and IK don't even recall any TV channels being in HD at all prior to around 2008 or so and even then only like 5-6 HD channels existed and even though they were technically free channels (non HD broadcasts were made of these channels simultaneously) if you had a paid TV box (free boxes didn't have HD I think) without a subscription only NON HD versions worked
I would actually suggest reading the manga. The one piece anime has serious pacing issues for a large part of it. I would suggest paying attention to the themes of one piece. I think it’s easy to assume it’s a frivolous show because of how simple/funny it is, but it is able to convey heavy themes in a surprisingly respectful manner.
In the manga, the first chapter is Luffy’s backstory with shanks. It was not made the first episode bc the manga was, while still popular in its time, not the behemoth it would become and Toei were worried it wouldn’t be engaging enough as a first episode. Hopefully the remake starts there bc I think it’s the foundation of the rest of the story.
The main problem of One Piece is how Toei Animations paced it, if the anime followed the manga pacing, then it would’ve been about 350 to 400 episodes (not including manga episodes not released yet).
It is still underhyped. Welcome to the crew btw. You’re in for a heck of an adventure and if you’re OP fan now I‘m subbed because as a fan of the first hour I want to support every other OP fan out there. Also if you keep skipping flashback and preview and intro and outro, later on around Punk Hazard, Dressrosa, etc. you can save up to 7, 8 sometimes I think even 9 minutes. The episode‘s still like 23, 24 minutes… but effectively it’s just around 15 minutes of the actual episode itself… 😅 Also it isn’t overhyped, that just means you didn’t understand the magnitude of it yet… the grandeur. Please catch up to around Dressrosa or Wano and then watch the TH-cam video „The Breathtaking World of One Piece“… Please also look out for theories, lore, foreshadowing, also the Coverarts series by Oda and the FPS which are only in the manga but you could find them online as well. They’re actually canon and explain a lot because ironically enough One Piece is way too short. Sure the Anime might have bad pacing every now and then, but the Manga actually only tells a tiny part of a way bigger story that lives in Oda-sensei‘s head. 🙌 So yeah… don’t watch it on the phone. Watch it on the TV or computer screen. Watch it with the sound up because the music comes from the actually designated One Piece orchestra and is legendary. Indulge in it. Get drawn into it. Watch Japanese dub with subtitles, trust me. Not because the sync is bad. Yeah the Japanese version is better if you ask me but that’s not the reason, that’s just a bonus on top. The reason is exactly what you just said. You watch it alongside some other activities basically in the background. And then even just on your phone. No wonder you don’t truly understand the magnificence of it yet, you need to be caught up and you need to pay attention to the details because there’s so much hidden in plain sight in every second or third scene so don’t miss any of these. You can’t just stay on the ship and wash the dishes during a fight, you need to pay attention to every situation. One thing at a time. Otherwise you’re maybe doing many things but not one of them right. But still, great review and overall I agree, please see this just as a well meant recommendation and just try it out that way and experience the difference for yourself and then decide which way you want it and even if you think you know the answer maybe just try it for some time because it won’t be the end of the world to designate some time just for One Piece. You could even use it as sort of spiritual practice and basically meditate on it with full awareness on the currently running episode.
It isn't overhyped. You just haven't realized it yet. When you start to see how the whole world comes together, you'll what a great storyteller Oda is.
Soon... Hard to make a call on whether or not you think it's over hyped *as a series* when you're 10% in give or take But the pacing has traditionally always been the black mark on one piece's record, although the current arc (egghead at time of comment) is paced very well and marineford and the bits around it are paced really well, in addition to skipping previous episode recaps, you can also safely skip the "recap episodes" in their entirety, they become more prevalent as arcs get longer
The problem with watching filler is that it's not part of the story. That 8 episode millenial dragon arc has two separate things in it that directly contradict the story in relatively notable ways down the line, and another thing that just makes zero sense.
2 things. 1: The One Piece community does not hype up One Piece because of East Blue. It's a great saga (and actually gets better the more you've watched the rest of the series), but it's not what's on our mind when we are telling you how amazing it is. That doesn't come until after Sky Island or Thriller Bark depending on the type of person you are. It gets way better. There are dips, but I'd say Syrup Village (Ussop's Arc) is one arguably the weakest, so if you didn't hate it from that you'll love the rest it only gets better. 2: Except when it comes to pacing. It gets worse. Most of the really bad pacing is after the timeskip though, and by that point you've already experienced what One Piece really is, and won't care that much about pacing. Post time skip pacing starts really really bad, but gets slowly better and better until where we are now where honestly the pacing feels decent. Not good, but not bad either. And it's worth it to get to where we are now in the story.
One thing many newcomers do when they start One Piece is to make theories or predictions about what they think is going to happen next and it's always fun and amusing to watch. You can also comeback to see what you thought at that time and see what you got right. You can maybe add that. Great video. Welcome aboard
5:40 "people didn't like him" Usopp is an acquired taste, it's for those who wanna taste excellence. No but seriously, he's hilarious and a good representation of a regular dude being surrounded by monsters. He balances the crew quite well, he's kind, and like all Straw Hats, he brings his own to the table and grows as the story progresses. When I got into OP I couldn't believe that there were people who genuinely hated him, I still can't understand that to this day. I mean, to each their own, I can understand dislike, my faves can be your non-faves and so on, but hate?
I think the One Piece Fan Letter might get more people onto the side of Usopp because for the longest time we didn't really have a "what is it like for the regular people" so Usopp's fear seemed a bit unfounded
As a manga first fan, I started watching the anime as a supplement (mostly to see how they would do certain fight scenes). Even as a fan, I didn't really get into the anime by itself until around the mid-beginning of the 3rd arc (the name is a spoiler, but it's the one after Alabasta). And basically, I got sucked into it more and more with each arc after. That is to say, I think that if you're already enjoying the series at where you said you are in this video, I believe you'll enjoy it all the more as the series progresses. As for video suggestions, maybe make your videos a bit longer (I usually listen to opinion/review videos while commuting)? I also wouldn't mind hearing you highlight which parts of the series stick out to you either.
it's not over hyped. the hype is for the story that we have seen over the past 25 years. the hype of the story as a whole (so far). That hype is not for "east blue". if east blue got the hype we have today... then yes, it would be. but the hype is not for east blue. its for all 1000+ episodes. You'll see. Glad you're enjoying the show!
Yeah a lot of fans try their hardest not to spoil things, and I'd argue the One Piece fandom is of the best, but it really only takes one or two. A lot of the time people spoil things on accident, a casual fan will come and say a meme that they might not get the complete importance to and people will yell at them for spoiling, revealing that said thing was a spoiler. I think One Piece fans have become so much better at protecting new fans from spoilers, but as the fanbase has grown the internet itself has also made things a lot harder like a spoiler can pop up in the recommended section or on twitter. It's a fun ride, but it's probably a difficult task
That "overhyped" is doing a lot of lifting. Yes, it is made out to be one of the greatest works of our generation, and it's hard to live up to that reputation, but aside from some slight pacing issues, and the occasional dodgy animation, it is unironically one of the greatest works of our time. The manga does a better job of pacing, and we're getting seasonal remakes which will condense the show to about ⅓ of its current runtime. You can be academic about some of the technical proficiencies, but this wasn't written by a seasoned veteran at the height of his craft. This was, for all intents and purposes, a rambunctious rookie with a big dream and a heart of gold, and the support of some good friends who genuinely believed in him, and whom he was wise enough to trust in too. Yes, I'm still talking about Oda, and like Luffy, he only gets better at what he does best.
😆 It's the same journey we see every time.

Finished Dressrosa, it's still a 6/10 at best
Still waiting for that moment of realization that I've heard so much about
@@speed1787 I'm curious. What would you say prevents it from being higher for you? I did glimpse your comment before the edit and you mentioned geared more toward kids than other shonen. What does it lack as far as maturity in its storytelling?
@@gleeman959 Sorry if my English is bad, it's my second language🙏🙏
It's a LONG list: (A lot of people complain that people say they hate stuff/think stuff are mediocre without giving the reason but that's because the reason is very long)
So let's start with the obvious: it's a show for kids that gets his life out squeezed out of
SO there are filler episodes that you can't escape from because they aren't technically filler they have some plot in it but the filler is integrated inside of the plot
So basically 99% of One Piece episodes are around 80% Filler and 20% Actual plot.
For example:
It took 4 episodes before we learned that hordy told to the first Son of Neptune that he killed his mother and the 4 episodes were just them swimming to get to each other like a Chase.
THE FIGHTS:
In Marineford before the fights we were told like 50 times about how strong the 7 worlds are in the fact that they're going to be there also the 3 admirals so I started to get hyped, but in the end it was 50 episodes of just Luffy running and not fighting anyone more than throwing 3-4 punches sometimes (so a fight would be like four punches each but it would last 3 episodes).
The fighting in general in One Piece and at least where I am is always lackluster, I was not hyped from a single fight in the show just because though is so much talking and cuts to another place every 3 minutes.
PLOT ARMOR:
The characters have incredibly big plot armor that gets them out of danger every time (bc it's a show for kids) and it's on full display because Luffy doesn't make a plan so they go in situations where they should die but they don't, almost all the time (Like when Enel shot everyone in skypia, when this hawk man died in Alabasta... (there are really like a thousand more plot armor incidents I just can't think of any of the top of my head).
Now for the controversial takes:
I hate Luffy I really do, I hate the idea of a dumb main character but Goku is ok, Luffy is insufferable.
Ace's death was uncharacteristic:
(I've actually heard a good counter argument for what I'm going to say but I'm still believing in my opinion)
Ace was known to be Reckless at the beginning of the series that's what got him to that position, but Ace changed in Marineford (but was still done dirty which is sad because he's one of my favorite characters in one piece).
"One Piece is overhyped"
The entire fanbase: oh you sweet child, those words will become obsolete once you finish Ennies Lobby.

My logic for this would be:
How do you like Attack on Titan? - Amazing show, really outstanding, one of my favourites these past years
How do you like Attack on Titan compared to One Piece? - meh, alright but only dirt on the foot of One Piece
One Piece does not make other anime worse, but to compare it correctly, you might need to use strong vocabulary that makes the difference clear
it is not like other animes are bad, but one piece is too good
You’re completely right. One Piece being good doesn’t make other anime bad.
Other anime being bad makes other anime bad.

"the manga is coming to a close soon"
...
What?
I would guess we are at VERY least 200 chapters away from the end.
I mean for Oda it's soon
It have to end about like 6-8 years to fully solve every plotline Oda made.
People who havent started One Piece: "oh my god, there's too many episodes!"
People who are caught up with One Piece: "oh my god, there's not enough episodes!"
"it also helps that i'm watching the series dub"
spoiler free: just discussing the benefits n potential issue of watching dub.
honestly I can agree to this. when I began my one piece journey during covid I was new to anime and wanted to get into One Piece and the dub is honestly not bad looking back at it.
Fun fact, Shanks being in episode 4 is an anime thing. The manga starts with Luffy and Shanks. Him meeting Koby is in chapter 2.
3-4 years later I’m pulling my hair out on a 2 week break 🤣
bro i didnt even know we were in a 2 week break.
@ Yessir. Should be back next week !
@@jojobravo3829 Your talking about the manga right? since the anime is on a 6 months break while they remake fishman island.
@@panda2906 Yeah I’m talking manga break
watching one piece and experiencing one piece isn't exactly the same thing, once you catch up and wait for a weekly release, you will then experience that you're on a literal journey and theorize alongside the one piece community, I just remember oda dropped a big lore with a cliffhanger then break for 3 weeks, people are crazy with their theories but still not got it😂
I feel like when people “overhype” something.
You'll see.
"Now that I've watched it, I can say it's definitely over hyped."
Bro ate the equivalent of a single pea of his three course dinner and is like, "I don't know what ya'll were ranting and raving about, this tastes alright."
😂
Also, you watched all of East Blue and this is all you had to comment on?
I ended up reading the manga, and now it's one of my favorite series of all time.
the anime is a 4/10 but the manga is at least a 9/10
@@shisuiedits yeah 100% agree
When you realize that this is most watched video in your channel, then you’ll start to appreciate the fandom. Enjoy
trust, One Piece is NOT overhyped, it just needs time, as everything builds up on each other and the world gets bigger and bigger, the Series also get's more Interesting.
The pacing sucks tho
I’m glad you finally gave it a shot.
Note that the pacing will become worth and worth. At the start, it was updating 2 chapters per episode, per currently, it is updating 0.5 chapter per episode. I really advise the manga. Also, if you watch the anime, note that openings and episode titles may have insane spoilers.
One Pace is the answer
@@underscore_anime One Pace is far from perfect tho, it cuts a lot of things that shouldn't be cut afaik.
Eh, it's not that bad. I'm watching through again with a couple reactors and the only time I got flustered at the pacing was the trials in Skypea.
@@TheDarkLasombraThe biggest hurdles are Skypiea and Dressrosa.
Long Ring Long Land is also a bit of a slog in the anime.
@@numberhunter62 Dressrosa was the worst offender for me. It was actually the only time where I audibly complained about not getting to certain fights, seeing the same things over and over, and progressing so slowly.
Have a good day
You thought nami's backstory was sad? WAIT UNTIL BROOK. I was baling my eyes out.
That's so relatable lmao, people be watching Naruto and Bleach and say One Piece is too long.. smh.
@@ezekielarraez7045and they watched Boruto too lol
One piece is like a mountain. You gotta climb your way through all the sagas and arcs, they have their ups and downs but once you are caught up you reach the peak of the mountain. Modern day one piece is phenomenal and leagues better than the earlier arcs in my opinion.
How about stop saying its overhyped when you havn't even gotten to the hyped parts? If you still think its overhyped by Ennis Lobby then maybe your points might be somewhat more valid.
"overhyped" but you only watched the first few arcs. prepare to change your mind.
As long you are not watching the 4Kids dub, any version of One Piece is fine.
Do you think you could add some of your favorite moments/gags and then your least favorite moments/gags? Especially since you are watching dub, it would be interesting to see your perspective on those
That's a good thing to keep in mind!

"Don Krieg was sick" your taste is... questionable
No? Don Krieg was cool at the begging, but the other characters vastly overshadow him.
He doesn't impact the story in a meaningful way.
Despite not being the best he still pushes Luffy to grow.
What I meant was that he wasn't a bad villain just that the others are better.
I started watching One Piece back when i was finishing High School, since i started my brother was watching it weekly but only knew the plot points prior
He just said first day of summer, wanna see it from the beggining?
"Aight" i said
It's still my favorite shonen, the anime has the notoriously Toei pacing
Ergo bad
Yet i prevailed, wanting to see more of the world, the odds the Strawhats have to face and some of the most memorable secondary characters i still remember to this day
Being all caught up with the manga is super fun every friday (when there is new chapter) and yeah, some of the fanbase is very nasty
But One Piece for me
Is fun, wondering where we are going next
Enjoy it Nic (if you keep liking it)
if you watch it in dub, you'll loose the essence + goosebumbs + intended vibe or narration by the original character
the iconic scenes dont hit the same with dub
1 small / big example without spoilers : in one of the iconic scenes in one piece, one of straw hat crew members asking for help and wanted to live, she screams franticly with her shaken voice that she wanted to live, that scene only works with the original voice actor it doesnt hit the spot with english dub, as alot of emotional expression/respons sounds cringe in english
also through time, their original voices will give u the effects of nostalgia, their screams and laughter is better in original
dub : make it feel like its a good show, good voice 'acting'
original : will make u feel like they really exists, theyre not an anime character, it has weight and soul
im telling u its not too late to ditch the dub, trust me on this
Everyone has this moment they admit one piece is peak fiction but it’s not the same point in story for all. Some notice it early some late
It is really good to catch up now since we're on 6 months break. earned a sub want to follow ur progress.
Good call to ignore the assholes hating on other shows in order to boost OP in others' eyes. Comparison is the thief of joy and trying to tear down others just to make yourself look better is a bad look and we don't claim them. I love other anime and manga. I will stan OP to my dying day, but it's only my second favourite manga (you literally would not be able to guess my favourite so don't bother XD ) and that's fine! It's still an incredible story. I can love it and love MHA and FMA:B and Naruto and Bleach and Skip Beat! and Detective Conan and a ton of other manga too. People who act like you can't aren't fans - they're rabid dogs that need to get a life and read more manga/watch more anime (and this is for people outside OP fandom, too.)
Did I just freakin hear Skip Beat and Detective Conan bro? You're based. Skip Beat is my favorite shojo manga, and Detective Conan is my favorite detective murder mystery anime.
What's your favorite manga though? Need it for recommendation.
@@zxcvb3772 Pluto, by Naoki Urasawa. IDK, it just hit that magical spot for me, even though it's different from my usual fare (being rather shorter and set irl, kinda). The anime was really good for it, too. Well worth checking out if you've never read a work by the mangaka (he also wrote Monster and 20th Century Boys).
Skip Beat! deserves another season at the least and Detective Conan is like that comfy place you just keep returning to every other year to make sure it's still how you left it. XD

Skip Beat does need another season or two, the best part has yet to come. I do want to see the Cain siblings arc animated.
Detective Conan and Pokemon are the 2 series that I stop watching for a while, and from time to time, come back to binge the series.

4:18 It was chapter 1 in the manga and it was WAY more well made so I disagree with you
A good way to talk about a one piece arc would be to go over 1.
Most OP filler is fun to watch though, a lot of wholesome episodes are filler in OP.
G8 accidentally led to foxy arc looking bad, in fact it was relatively fun to watch, not as fun as amazon lily but still fun
It’s only the one arc that sorta contradicts things and even with that, that seems like a total coincidence. And overall that arc was pretty enjoyable.
Yeah saying overhyped is crazy only after watching 1 saga give it more time b4 saying overhyped
you thought something was overhyped... but didnt _actually_ watch it until *NOW* ??
talk about having an opinion about an experience you didnt have.
Wait till he gets to Enies Lobby! He'll be crying and be overhyping One Piece himself.
1:41 bro those two are exactly why you’re opinion is trash especially..dub too is herb mentality
The main problem of One Piece is how Toei Animations paced it, if the anime followed the manga pacing, then it would’ve been about 350 to 400 episodes (not including manga episodes not released yet).
7:11 did this guy just compare one piece with one piece
Masterpiece can be compare only with another masterpiece xd
Bro cleared the intro and isn't sure if it lived up to the hype yet...wait till the moment I cried over a boat
The episode‘s still like 23, 24 minutes… but effectively it’s just around 15 minutes of the actual episode itself… 😅
Also it isn’t overhyped, that just means you didn’t understand the magnitude of it yet… the grandeur. Please catch up to around Dressrosa or Wano and then watch the TH-cam video „The Breathtaking World of One Piece“…
Please also look out for theories, lore, foreshadowing, also the Coverarts series by Oda and the FPS which are only in the manga but you could find them online as well.
They’re actually canon and explain a lot because ironically enough One Piece is way too short. Sure the Anime might have bad pacing every now and then, but the Manga actually only tells a tiny part of a way bigger story that lives in Oda-sensei‘s head. 🙌
So yeah… don’t watch it on the phone.
Soon...
Hard to make a call on whether or not you think it's over hyped *as a series* when you're 10% in give or take
But the pacing has traditionally always been the black mark on one piece's record, although the current arc (egghead at time of comment) is paced very well and marineford and the bits around it are paced really well, in addition to skipping previous episode recaps, you can also safely skip the "recap episodes" in their entirety, they become more prevalent as arcs get longer

Subbed to follow your journey 🎉 keep it up ❤️
Why don’t you just read the manga? The pacing issues are almost all problems of the anime
it's not over hyped. the hype is for the story that we have seen over the past 25 years. the hype of the story as a whole (so far).
People don't hate ussop it just that he doesn't feel the same as he was back then
