“He’s self-sabotaging because of his insecurities” YES. man this is why y’all are the best, you GET it. Usopp is in pain, he’s humiliated, and he’s been struggling with his sense of self-worth his whole life. Human moments like these are what make One Piece such an incredible story.
Yeah this is true. It totally makes sense though, as when we look at their backstories, Usopp has no mentor/parental figure. He only has himself, thats why he constantly lies to muster up courage and go on with his life.
The crew was in their worst moments losing 2 members and even Nami who usually is the one with the most common sense couldn´t find the words or do anything for them but both of them stood up for the rest of the crew this entire arc
I LOVED THAT YOU GUYS PICKED UP ON THIS. Usopp saw the Merry as his contribution to the crew. He was always fixing her, and wasn't much use in battle (despite winning his fights lol). When he stood no chance against Enel or the Franky Family.... he felt that, just like Merry, he was not strong enough to carry on. If Luffy could "abandon Merry", maybe Usopp was next? Of course he was just sad a frustrated and projecting his insecurities on to Luffy. I was excited for you guys to get here, it's a real turning point in One Piece!
i have a different take on this. its not that Usopp see's the Going Merry as his contribution, its that he projects himself on to the ship. He sees the ship's limits as his own and feels insecure about it. He doesn't see the value that he brings to the crew beyond his utility because in his mind, he's constantly comparing the Monster trio's feats to his own. He feels inept compared to them.
The Marry isn't just analogous to Usopp in his eyes. It's also yet another job he failed at, underlining his feeling of uselessness to the crew. Brilliant writing. It works on so many levels and this one scene does so much for every member of the crew, even the absent one!

He's not fighting for "just a ship", he's fighting for what he is convinced is a living being. Edit: @KINGVAMP_954 Incorrect. Rewatch the episode where Franky explains to him what a Klaubatermann is. He gives him the information BECAUSE Usopp tells him he is convinced what he saw _WAS_ the Going Merry. He is not saying it _metaphotically_ , he is saying it _LITERALLY_ . It has been more than a decade, I CANNOT believe this is still in question.
yeah, this is almost the first time we see Luffy's pain tears, like we always see him smiling laughing and just being light hearted always, i cried along with him that episode... ps.I love ur pfp😅
Yea it's heartbreaking to see luffy crying coz he is always smiling and positive in any situation. Fight between ussop and luffy is masterclass writing by oda sensei . I never imagined this would happen and my mind was blown and heartbroken after watching this for the first time, and it gets me everytime I watch it😢
Fr! Strangely, the only thing that makes me cry when watching One Piece is every time Luffy cries and struggles. The first time I cried watching One Piece was when he climbed at Drum Island. I didn't cry during Nami's Arlong Park, Zoro's or Sanji's backstory, or even at the "I want to live" scene. The only Straw Hat backstories that made me cry were Chopper's and our musician's, but not as much as seeing Luffy cry. I don’t know why it hurts so much to see Luffy cry😭
What gets me the most about this scene is how well written it is The narrative has a lot of respect for Usopp's character. His insecurities are not a comic gag, they're completely human And I also love how One Piece isn't like other shonens were the strong are all emotionless jerks and the weak are comedic filler. We're always seeing how emotionally involved our cast is. Sanji loosing his cool and jumping to defend Usopp is one of my favorite moments in OP, because he's not just "le cook who likes women" None of them are walking stereotypes with a single trait. They're the most human characters I've ever seen
Thank you for saying that about other shonens. This is exactly why i find JJK to be reliying on mostly superficial qualities. Trying so hard to seem cool while One Piece is overlooked because it looks "goofy" in the eyes of this tiktok generation. JJK and other solo levelings lack humanity for the sake of arrousing their viewers (yes..its a serious choice of words :D ). One Piece is exactly what i want to see in a show as a whole. If we stick to shonens, Mob Psycho is another one those reactors should watch instead of JJK. Another very Human show.
...and the scene starts out with that super tired old trope of conflict because important information isn't shared... and then Luffy shares it... and it doesn't matter. In the most relatable way.
For me, ep 235 is where OP went from being a great anime to something on a completely different level. Non-fans often criticise the story for being too long, but it's moments like this you realise the length is a big part of what makes it so special. We've been through so much with this crew that seeing them fight like this is so heartbreaking. No other story could have this kind of emotional impact.
It ends up on one of the highest notes though. I think this is the arc that defined the crew once and for all as they still understand themselves today: when you're a Straw Hat you're in all the way. No more running off on personal errands, no more trying to sacrifice yourself, no more turning on each other and no more going it alone: If you have a problem, then it's the crew's problem. A couple of them have forgotten that for a moment in the years since, but when they do the rest of them immediately set out to remind them. It's when they really started to take themselves seriously and when the world started to really notice them.
@@solidddxs They love giving titles that were never used in the manga or anime once, he's the swordsman of the crew, he doesn't need to be the vice-captain for us to see he has his value. There's a lot of pirate crews that does not have a vicecap as well, but always the same speech from them. Tiring...
You ladies get it! There’s a handful of reactors that were able to immediately clock two things: 1) that Usopp sees his worth to the crew tied to the Merry and 2) that he relates to the Merry and how Luffy is deciding to ‘abandon’ her because she’s ‘weak’ (or cannot be of use anymore) I always appreciate how you are able to recognise these character thoughts and feelings and articulate them in your reactions. Water 7 will keep surprising you, you’re in for a GREAT arc
Haylo's first "ugly" cry from this show. She's been holding out so well. Alabasta, the X mark, Luffy Help Me, The golden bell. She's cried but kept it clean, presentable. She broke down here. Not trying to be mean about it, this is the power of Water 7. And we've only just begun! 😭
I noticed that too ahe’s definitely more stoic, but that shows how emotional this part of the story is. Even Luffy ugly cried for the first time in the story.
Maybe its called water 7 because your eyes water a few times. And it makes all the 7 members of the crew sad (just à random thought and its kinda à cool coïncidence)😂 Edit: Waiiiiiiit and 7 members of the crew cried. But not Sanji and Zoro :D Think about it !
@@hassanbelmekki624 did you mean to reply to scocat? Because I am obviously talking about the moment right here (water 7) which I believe to be a lower point for the Crew than 3d2y as it is caused by internal struggle
You misunderstood, she said ""YOUR afro doesn't make YOU strong", implying that opposed to Luffy's, and many other afros, this one is a low quality afro that doesn't give power, only because it belongs to a turd, and not even afros can save turds
a real question.. did the afro not help, or was he already so weak that it couldn't do anything for him? Perhaps if you're not enough without it you're still not enough with it.
The first 8 episodes of water 7 just gets so chaotic so quick They arrived fresh off from the encounter with aokiji which put them on edge for sure, in water 7 everything seems okay at the beginning, they're having fun. Then they get their money stolen, some of the crew members learn that the going merry can't keep going, usopp goes to get back the money, he gets badly beaten up and humiliated, Nami finds him... The crew goes to get his pride back. Then amidst that Robin disappears. Then they have two problems Usopp not wanting to let go of the merry and Robin gone, looking like she betrayed them. Usopp leaves and that's two less crew members for now.
Your explanation is why I dislike when people say to skip long ring long land. That arc gives us a false sense of security. It's fun and happy and you just KNOW that no one on the crew is going to get taken away. That false sense of security is why the beginning of water 7 hits so freaking hard. Because it makes us believe nothing actually bad will happen. But it does. And it hits hard.
@@kataylove There are as many people saying to skip LRLL as there are saying to skip Skypiea: Next to none. People DO TELL to skip the filler part of LRLL, same way I personally recommend friends to read the manga instead of watching the anime, but not to skip the whole arc. If you have people seriously saying "skip X arc" around you, first of all, you are a weird exception to the rule, and secondly, if you invest energy into their stupidity it will spread to you
I think it's important to recognize that this isn't just about the ship. Usopp sees the Merry as a reflection of himself. If Luffy is willing to abandon the ship, then in Usopp's eyes, he could abandon Usopp someday once Usopp stops being of use to him. He's not as strong as everyone, so he's afraid Luffy will simply choose to leave him behind just like he is doing to the ship.
The amazing thing about Oda is that he created the seemingly silly Foxy arc to build up to this moment. In the Foxy arc, it’s shown that Luffy will fight without giving up to get his friends back. However, in the next arc, he immediately loses Usopp, Merry, and Robin.
The thing that makes the conflict between Usopp and Luffy well written and executed is that nothing about the situation feels manufactured for the sake of drama. Unlike Luffy and Zoro’s small fight at Whiskey Peak (which one can argue was more for laughs than an actual point of conflict), everything about how the characters are expressing their feelings is completely in-character and makes sense given those circumstances. We’ve seen the seeds of this confrontation sprinkled throughout the earlier sagas up to the beginning of Water 7: the amount of damage Merry is taking, Usopp’s lack of respect towards Luffy as an authority figure and his feelings of inadequacy as a member of the crew, and Luffy’s inadequacies as a leader. This confrontation is the culmination of all those elements that had been bubbling underneath the surface finally erupting in the heat of a conflict that was inevitable if they are to continue moving forward on their adventure. Luffy vs. Usopp is my favorite fight in the series and it is because of what the conflict is based on, how their feelings and perspectives continue to escalate the situation, and what it means for their growth later on.
Oda did not want to make Luffy and Zoro fight at Whiskey Peak but his editors demanded he do it for fans. Since Oda has complete editorial control over the live action I'm betting that fight's the first thing he's going to axe lol
@@BidwellRunner Where's your source for that? Luffy vs Zoro being editors suggestion is a rumor among fandom, but there isn't anything to actually confirm it.
the self sabotage isnt just due to the insecurities, its that compounded on him losing the money and everyone calling him worthless so he feels like his only contribution is the merry so usopp is devastated
There's even a feeling that he is making Luffy look bad. Like they were joking about how if Usopp is this weak the captain he serves must not be that strong.
luffy didn't initially explain why they were replacing the merry ebcause i beleice he himself didn't want to acknowledge why, he didn't want to face the cruel reality, it'd be too painful for him, plus he doens't like to dwell, so after making his decision he decides to jsut act like normal, not realising his approach doesn't work everyone, especially usopp right now.
Yeah, like major reason for this fight is Ussop's insecurity and fears. But what really sparkle it is Luffy's approach. When he first heard the news himself he wanted to fight shipwrights. And then it takes time to process that. But when he talked to Usopp he tried to just force the decision to him.
I have seen his growth during his confrontiation with Tama. He immeadiately told her that Ace died to stop her hopes and learn to move forward, if he was the same back then he would probably tried to act normal and smile and say "yeah he'll comeback for sure he is my brother afterall" or something like that
The character writing in this stretch of episodes is so perfect, it's really shows how dynamic these characters really are and gives them a richness that I think many other anime miss the mark on.
Merry crying always gets me. Zoro dropping bombs and spitting facts is one of the highlights of this arc. Proves his worth to the crew is more than just being a great swordsman.
@@Alcatrazrezz Zoro is stated by Oda to not be the Vice Captain and in fact there is no VC of the crew according to the man himself. They all (The OG East Blue Crew) seem to fill that roll in the appropriate moments... On the sea Nami fits the bill, directing the crew in tasks to sail safely. Strategy, Sanji fills that roll by going off on his own and creating clutch plays for them to all capitalize on. Zoro happens to fill that roll by consoling the others and recementing their faith in Luffy as Captain and even ground Luffy back in the reality of his position as captain. And Ussop filled that roll by boosting group morale and leading them in ship repairs.
i feel like a lot of people miss this, but the seeds of these insecurities really start showing during the foxy arc, especially when he says he wasnt able to do anything when they were dealing with aokiji. just another one of those 'no arc is skippable' things ya know
The seeds of Usopp not respecting Luffy's decisions as captain are also planted in that fight. Luffy ordered Zoro and Sanji to let him duel Aokiji which they respected. When they told Usopp this Usopp told them even if it was the captain's orders that they can't just leave him to fight one-on-one, that it was too cold-hearted.
The way they protray the infighting in this part of the story just feels so real. A lot of heavy emotions, a lot of pride and even projecting. It breaks my heart everytime. Thank you girls for your reactions, i loved your discussions and character insights. I also like your idea of what Robin would do in this situation, just grabbing them all for a big group hug is very wholesome ☺️
They can't stop being who they are. This is just a culmination of what happened to Usopp. He just feels so responsible with Merry. Kaya gave him that ship.
The most realistic depiction of a fight I've ever seen in any media. Gotta love how you guys picked up on Usopp's feelings and motivations. Kaku actually describes the solution to his insecurities in the beginning of the arc: "Humans can grow and mature from suffering and pain, but ships only accumulate it"
Welcome to the Water 7, the saga of tears. OK, I kid, I kid.. but seriously...! This entire saga is beloved by the fandom and it is where One Piece began to gather its massive cult status. Arlong? Drum? Alabasta? Skypiea? All great stories. But this is where great makes way for epic. I hope you'll both enjoy it.
I was alone in my room watching these heart wrenching episodes for the first time and let me tell you, tears won't stop coming down 😭🙏 i couldn't sleep thinking about it 💔
@@Helloworld_nwo shh don't spoil the Reactors may see your reply... Or at least Edit it with starting off with *"SPOILER, DON'T READ"* then place it at the bottom.
People are left confused by the scene where Usopp chooses to pick a fight and leave, but the more you think about it the more likely he was going to do this eventually. He doesn't respect Luffy as a captain like he should, He doesn't understand the choices that are made, He feels like he is weak and everyone has to take care of him, and in the end he feels like he will be abandon, like the Merry, will when he can no longer keep up. His choices here are a direct reflection of his character even if it doesn't make sense to the viewer because most fights are like this. Someone trying to take the real path that's logical and the other person being stuck in their feelings.
When people start One Piece, I always hope that they get pulled in and FEEL pivotal moments like these. When you ladies picked up the live action, decided to watch the anime, then decided to go past the East Blue... this is one of those moments I was anticipating. Not the negativity behind it, but the obvious impact of this clash of very understandable personalities after the significance of their past adventures. Although the duel could have been avoided like you said, it's wonderful writing where no one is out of character with their reactions; Luffy trying to be considerate of Usopp so he doesn't feel guilty for losing the money, the heightened insecurity Usopp is putting on himself, combined with the crew's uneasiness about Robin's disappearance... it's a very human outcome and a great way to show that despite best intentions not every situation will be, well, MERRY. The Straw Hats are in uncharted waters. As you pointed out there are a lot of open issues needing resolution and Luffy is starting to realize that being the captain, the pillar of his crew, can be challenging in ways he hadn't expected. I'm excited to join you two on the trip through one of my favorite arcs of One Piece, welcome to Water 7!
You spend a lot of time with the crew, so it can be easy to forget that they're pretty big shot pirates. Moments when they can squad up and prove it feel really good.
every time i revisit this stretch i can't help but put myself in namis shoes she spent her entire life dedicating herself wholly towards protecting her village and her only remaining family, and she stepped away from all that to chase the faith of the family she found to make her future. She left because of the belief in the commitment of her crew to her and to each other, and for the first time ever committed herself without feeling the need to hide it from the people she loved. And now she's discovering that that firm commitment is actually very vulnerable, and falling apart before her eyes with no way for her to stop it. It must feel like her entire world is crashing down. The same is true to an extent for chopper, but in chopper's case his biggest fear in trusting people was that he would be rejected. Nami's biggest fear has always been that she may let everyone down. After all of this what's left of her optimism for the future now?
You will never be ready for the next episodes and neither will we. Water 7 arc (and the arc after) are something special. The arcs are like a rollercoaster of emotions 😉🤭
The brilliant part of these episodes is how well set-up Usopp's motivations are. Like it doesn't just come out of nowhere because he lost the money to the Franky family. For the entire show he's had insecurities over his abilities and his perceived lack of bravery. He does feel useless and he does feel like the Merry is just as much a part of the crew as anyone else, so if Luffy abandons her, the he feels like he's next, because Luffy will only allow strong people around him. Whether it's true or not, it's his perspective and it's valid. And the most ironic part of the whole thing is look how much of fight he put up against Luffy, like actually had him on the ropes and landed some devastating attacks, let alone everything else he brings to the crew and his big heart. But by then it was too late and too much was already said. God Enies Lobby and Water 7 are the best, man.
This episode masterfully captures the essence of One Piece: adventure, friendship and the willing to sacrifice yourself for one of your crew. It's very well directed and emotional. For me, the best episode so far.
Haylo and Kiss for a few eps now: Usopp is going to be devastated from the news about the Merry. Me for a few eps now: They're gonna be devastated about Usopp's reaction to the news about the Merry.
Now that we're here, I can finally say, w/o having to worry about spoilers, that this is why I like the Long Ring Long Land (LRLL) Arc. It's the perfect setup to the Water 7 arc, akin to the "calm" before the storm. There are outside influences that are trying to disband the crew in LRLL though a series of games that appear to be superficial. The rules of the games dictated that crew members could be stolen/separated from each other, but none of the Strawhats felt any imminent danger because of the strong bond that they were able to forge which is why it took them quite a while before taking the games seriously. Fast forward to this episode where that very bond is being tested. Without LRLL and the encounter with Aokiji I don't think Water 7 would hit us as hard as it does. For the record, I'm not saying that LRLL is my favorite. I just think that it does a good job of serving its purpose to set up W7.
Yes. That's exactly why Ussop is acting up. He's sad and angry for merry, but he is projecting himself. "Before they kick me out, I'll kick myself out."
Every time I see my name on your angels list it makes my heart skip a beat. I love you ladies’ emotion and energy and that you acknowledge all your supporters in everything you make. Keep up the good work because your one piece ride is just getting to the best part!!! Thank you again!!! WE ARE!!!
This episode. 236, where Luffy was first forced ever to become an adult. Man that stings. The loss of innocence. He gets to be carefree 99% of the time, but this 1% is the weight of his decision to be the king. Perfectly done couple of episodes
Worth the wait. I am so frustrated when people say "One Piece (anime in general ) are just for kids". You only get this emotional when watching a dog movie. Luffy crying is one of the hardest thing to watch. Also I really love a channel (forgot the channel, credits to him) that pointed out, how Usopp looks really good in this fight is because we see this fight in Luffy's perspective, we cant hear Usopp's inner dialogues of fear and doubts so he looked like a real good fighter. Glad to cry with you guys. Yohohohoh!
And I just tell you, the best arc hasn't started yet, but these are still great, unforgettable moments. IMAGINE THIS LEVEL OR INTENSITY OF STORY LASTS 1000 CHAPTERS THIS IS THE BEST FICTION STORY EVER WRITTEN ONE PIECE NAKAMAS ❤💀
My boss said it best; Luffy is the Capt of the Strawhats, Usopp is the Capt of the Merry… that ship, that gift, meant the most to the man who heard its voice, the man who saw her owner sick and dying give it to him. All of it, it matters as self reflection to Usopp.
Usopp is a version of Batman. If you give him enough prep time and information, he'll figure out how to mess you up. Usopp did exactly that. He went into town and he bought supplies for his 1-on-1 fight, as well as made more of his own standard ammunition, to fight someone he'd known for months, at a specific location and time.
I've been waiting 8 months for these episodes to drop, they're top tier reaction material especially for 2 empathic kind people like you 2. Destroyed me, but wouldn't have it any other way.
Usopp has abandonment issues. His dad left him and his mom died shortly after. The only person his age that befriended him was dying just like his mother. His insecurities about being abandoned came out during this fight. He thinks because he's weak they'll leave him like the Going Merry.
watching you guys is like watching myself and my lis sis. they way kiss's respond to all what haylo word its like watching my lil sis did same thing. i love to watching you two. wish you all the best
one piece episode 235 it's probably one of my favorites and one of the best written and directed, the way everyone face the conflict their own way and how this drives them to such a desperate point without having to get into a big scale conflict, all coming out of the context of all the things that are happening and how even before the discussion they where already so affected and trying to keep up with it as they could, it's just on another level, and it feels so personal because this time every little factor matters just the same for us, they're people we've been traveling with for a long time, people we care about and we want to see them succeed
Grateful to be here and be able to re-watch all of this with you guys, throughout this journey we all could see how much you guys got into the show and learned to love it, Water seven is a water splitter, and from here everything gets even better =) Thank you for the video, always a pleasure! =)
Luffy's very blunt, to-the-point manner didn't really work for once when he broke the news to Usopp like that. Also, that lighting chance halfway through the argument is brilliant. Things got _real_ at that moment.
the fact that we can feel so devastated but also connected with these fictional characters is a sheer testiment to how amazing of a writer Oda is. I knew it was coming, but it still hurt seeing both of you feeling the raw emotions that come with these episodes. Looking forward to watching the rest of your journeys to the final few islands with the rest of us!
Listen girls… the reason Usopp was so adamant about getting a new ship is because of Kaya, his friend from Syrup Village. As we all know Usopp loves Kaya dearly and wanted to keep his friend’s gift forever as a way of reciprocating her kindness. Throughout the Straw Hat’s adventure since getting the Going Merry, Usopp was always the one who cared for her the most out of everyone else and was more sensitive when it involved her, even reminding the others on a daily basis that it was Kaya who gave them the Merry. Moreover Usopp also sees a little bit of himself in the Merry. Merry was a ship made to traverse the East Blue, it was never properly manufactured to handle the dangerous waters of the Grand Line. Similarly all of us could see since leaving Reverse Mountain that Usopp was presently unfit to face the challenges that the Grand Line had in store, no matter how hard he tried in comparison to Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, etc he is the weakest member of the crew which lead to him with the mentality that he was only dead weight. He was convinced that once the Merry was kaput and outlived her usefulness that the rest of the crew would just abandon him like they are doing with her. Furthermore all this time Usopp never once acknowledged Luffy as his captain, Usopp only saw Luffy as a friend nothing more. Which is why Usopp got so confrontational with Luffy and refused to accept reality that the Going Merry couldn’t sail anymore. All of his crippling insecurities such as his stubbornness, his low self-esteem, and his inferiority complex towards the others became too much for Usopp to bear, and the Franky Family stealing the money was the final straw. All of this is what led to Usopp leaving the crew and breaking ties with Luffy and the others. Luffy accepting Usopp’s challenge and not talking things out further was because he was right, there was no turning back. Nothing he or anyone else could say would change Usopp’s mind or make him feel any less guilty about what happened. Once he departed the ship, Usopp officially left the Straw Hats. Usopp put his pride on the line for this duel even though he knew he didn’t have a chance in Hell of winning and if Luffy had refused this challenge it wouldn’t be nothing more than an insult to his friend and to his pride. Like I said, there was no going back once Usopp got off the ship the die was already cast and all that was left was to see it through to the end no matter what. That being said I hope y’all have a bit of a better understanding of Usopp’s feelings now and that everything I said made sense.
Bro your long a** comment is just a drag, let the reactors watch the show the way they want to watch it, they're not watching it base on your understanding, they have their own understanding of the story.

Sanji loosing his cool and jumping to defend Usopp is one of my favorite moments in OP, because he's not just "le cook who likes women"
None of them are walking stereotypes with a single trait. They're the most human characters I've ever seen
Well said
Thank you for saying that about other shonens.
I also love the actual color tone of the scene when they argue, it sets the mood perfectly.
@@maxpower2480🤡
For me, ep 235 is where OP went from being a great anime to something on a completely different level. Non-fans often criticise the story for being too long, but it's moments like this you realise the length is a big part of what makes it so special. We've been through so much with this crew that seeing them fight like this is so heartbreaking. No other story could have this kind of emotional impact.
@@Kwigs_kun exxxxxxactly. Thank you

Water7 - Enies Lobby - back to water7 is best arc, the peak, ultimate, of One Piece story
but .... but ... this is supposed to be a silly kids cartoon about pirates!
@@jackrussell1232 Sanji runs away from the straw hat crew in Big moms ark
The reason the walk reminds you of Arlong Park is because Toei originally added that one to the anime, and Oda enjoyed it so much he repeated it here.

You ladies get it! There’s a handful of reactors that were able to immediately clock two things: 1) that Usopp sees his worth to the crew tied to the Merry and 2) that he relates to the Merry and how Luffy is deciding to ‘abandon’ her because she’s ‘weak’ (or cannot be of use anymore)
I always appreciate how you are able to recognise these character thoughts and feelings and articulate them in your reactions. Water 7 will keep surprising you, you’re in for a GREAT arc

Haylo's first "ugly" cry from this show. She's been holding out so well. Alabasta, the X mark, Luffy Help Me, The golden bell. She's cried but kept it clean, presentable. She broke down here.

These two episodes are what cemented in my mind that Sanji is crew mom, and Zoro is crew dad
The first 8 episodes of water 7 just gets so chaotic so quick
They arrived fresh off from the encounter with aokiji which put them on edge for sure, in water 7 everything seems okay at the beginning, they're having fun. Usopp leaves and that's two less crew members for now.
fr
They lost 3 members in this arc 🕵🏻♀️👃🏻🛶
You are still trying to take in the amazing landscape, the Yagaras, the market, the carnival masks, and suddenly 3 tons of shit hit the fan
Yea they said that at the end
This entire Arc (including Enies Lobby) is pure Peak Piece.

@@RennaReiss especially at the end of enies :D
The amazing thing about Oda is that he created the seemingly silly Foxy arc to build up to this moment. In the Foxy arc, it’s shown that Luffy will fight without giving up to get his friends back. However, in the next arc, he immediately loses Usopp, Merry, and Robin.
The emotion with which Haylo hit the pause button 19:54💀💀
Fr 🥲
Well said.
Oda did not want to make Luffy and Zoro fight at Whiskey Peak but his editors demanded he do it for fans. Since Oda has complete editorial control over the live action I'm betting that fight's the first thing he's going to axe lol
I feel the same way. This fight has so much meaning and also is so creative. Peak shonen writing
That fight was funny 😂
@@BidwellRunner Where's your source for that? Luffy vs Zoro being editors suggestion is a rumor among fandom, but there isn't anything to actually confirm it.

the self sabotage isnt just due to the insecurities, its that compounded on him losing the money and everyone calling him worthless so he feels like his only contribution is the merry so usopp is devastated
that makes total sense
Nobody said he was worthless.
@@spbot2 I think the person you replied to is talking about the Franky Family, who definitely called Usopp worthless.
There's even a feeling that he is making Luffy look bad. Like they were joking about how if Usopp is this weak the captain he serves must not be that strong.
@@spbot2 franky family did.
luffy didn't initially explain why they were replacing the merry ebcause i beleice he himself didn't want to acknowledge why, he didn't want to face the cruel reality, it'd be too painful for him, plus he doens't like to dwell, so after making his decision he decides to jsut act like normal, not realising his approach doesn't work everyone, especially usopp right now.
im also glad he learned from this experience and applied it in the future
Zoro = best vice captain
@@LLGTMT I know he did. Doesn't matter whether he is or not, he has the qualities of a vice captain
Zoro is the crew member who has most consistently respected Luffy's position as captain.

i feel like a lot of people miss this, but the seeds of these insecurities really start showing during the foxy arc, especially when he says he wasnt able to do anything when they were dealing with aokiji. just another one of those 'no arc is skippable' things ya know
The seeds of Usopp not respecting Luffy's decisions as captain are also planted in that fight. Luffy ordered Zoro and Sanji to let him duel Aokiji which they respected. When they told Usopp this Usopp told them even if it was the captain's orders that they can't just leave him to fight one-on-one, that it was too cold-hearted.
@@BidwellRunner also the idea that duels being sacred things that must be respected was introduced here

sabo's death and he cried so bad in his childhood
People are left confused by the scene where Usopp chooses to pick a fight and leave, but the more you think about it the more likely he was going to do this eventually. He doesn't respect Luffy as a captain like he should, He doesn't understand the choices that are made, He feels like he is weak and everyone has to take care of him, and in the end he feels like he will be abandon, like the Merry, will when he can no longer keep up. His choices here are a direct reflection of his character even if it doesn't make sense to the viewer because most fights are like this. Someone trying to take the real path that's logical and the other person being stuck in their feelings.
19:30 the fact that you can see them holding each others hands 😭😭
Moments when they can squad up and prove it feel really good.
every time i revisit this stretch i can't help but put myself in namis shoes
she spent her entire life dedicating herself wholly towards protecting her village and her only remaining family, and she stepped away from all that to chase the faith of the family she found to make her future.
The arcs are like a rollercoaster of emotions 😉🤭
water 7 and enies lobby

I totally agree with you.
Yes. That's exactly why Ussop is acting up. He's sad and angry for merry, but he is projecting himself.

My boss said it best; Luffy is the Capt of the Strawhats, Usopp is the Capt of the Merry… that ship, that gift, meant the most to the man who heard its voice, the man who saw her owner sick and dying give it to him. All of it, it matters as self reflection to Usopp.
I started watch one piece bcs live action too, and believe me all the time you spent is worth it.
Usopp is a version of Batman. If you give him enough prep time and information, he'll figure out how to mess you up. Usopp did exactly that. He went into town and he bought supplies for his 1-on-1 fight, as well as made more of his own standard ammunition, to fight someone he'd known for months, at a specific location and time.

one piece episode 235 it's probably one of my favorites and one of the best written and directed, the way everyone face the conflict their own way and how this drives them to such a desperate point without having to get into a big scale conflict, all coming out of the context of all the things that are happening and how even before the discussion they where already so affected and trying to keep up with it as they could, it's just on another level, and it feels so personal because this time every little factor matters just the same for us, they're people we've been traveling with for a long time, people we care about and we want to see them succeed
Still one of the best fight in One Piece until this day

the fact that we can feel so devastated but also connected with these fictional characters is a sheer testiment to how amazing of a writer Oda is.

Zoro lines are always super bad ass. Except for "is it morning already?"
