    ABOUT LAW & ORDER
Created by Emmy Award-winning producer Dick Wolf, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," now in its 22nd season, is the longest-running primetime live-action series of all time.
This hard-hitting and emotional series from NBC's "Law & Order" brand chronicles the lives of the Special Victims Unit of the New York City Police Department, an elite squad of detectives who investigate crimes of sexual assault, child abuse and domestic violence.
As commander of the SVU, Capt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) is a seasoned veteran of the unit who has seen it all. She leads with empathy and professionalism, all the while dealing with her difficult past as a product of rape and her responsibility as a trailblazer in survivor advocacy, both of which influence the way she relates to the victims and perpetrators of each case. Olivia Benson is the longest-running female character in a primetime live action television series.

I get it the guys a pain in the a** but he wasn’t wrong about that case. When you try a perp for multiple tapes your whole case is only as strong as it’s weakest link. The Nunez girl had a very sordid history couldn’t ID anyone and was not a very reliable witness. You put that in front of a jury and boom you get reasonable doubt a not guilty. Would benson rather have that guy he tried for 2 rapes get off and serve 0 time or get tried for one and serve 15 years? It’s an imperfect solution to a complicated problem I know but I guarantee if they would’ve had a not guilty on both because of the one lady our dear olivia would’ve been pissed too. McGrath has his issues but he sees the big picture and he understands how to win. Olivia gets so emotionally involved in cases she’ll go barreling head first into them without realizing how dangerous it is. We all want it all we want the world to be perfect truth is it isn’t. Sometimes a half win is better than no win at all.

It’s the same reason why prosecutors give drug dealers a pass to go after the boss. Give up a pawn to get the queen it’s classic chess strategy. I don’t like morally McGraths demeanor he seems sleazy and hungry for power I agree but going forward with one good case one at best shaky one merged together is a recipe for disaster. Juries are naturally distrustful of authority they look for reasons not to convict and if you give them one they’ll take it and run. Truth is we live in a far from perfect world and nothing will ever change that. We have to work with what we have. The guy didn’t exactly walk free. He’s gonna serve double digits in prison. That’s a lot better than a hung jury or not guilt because they couldn’t get past the one lady sleeping with half the neighborhood. Sometimes perfect isn’t there sometimes all or nothing does get you nothing. Taking what you can get cutting losses making do with what you got ain’t bad strategies.

McGrath is an annoying character. I wanted to punch him; the moment that he opened his mouth. But he is a Chess player; at his core,
One of Benson’s greatest disadvantages; is that she is so passionate about advocating for the victim, that it blinds her about the flaws in the system.
Going through the battle, doesn’t amount to much; if the only result you get, is a puric victory.
As much as people might be loathe to admit it. Having a snake, like McGrath, in her hip pocket; might benefit Benson, in the long run....

Captain benson is so sympathetic towards victims of sexual assault I love her passion and determination to seek justice for the victims no matter the cost. Mcgrath has no idea how dedicated captain benson is to the job, she has put away so many violent offenders throughout her career and in the process nearly lost her life on more than one of occasions and she's still doing exactly what she's been doing since season 1 which is saving lives and turning victims into survivors. Watch out chief mcgrath captain benson is not the one you want to pick a fight with especially when it concerns her cases.

@@mikhailboldt3417 drug dealers and pedophiles are two different things. You don't blame the victim in order to secure a victory that is selfish and self serving. Sexual crimes are not like a game of chess it's a lot more complicated than you think it's not all black and white. Olivia said herself " that it doesn't matter if the perp goes to jail or not, what matters is that the victim was able to have his/her voice heard" it doesn't matter if she was "sleeping around with half of new york" rape is a crime!! And testimony and the evidence will back that up.

The single welfare Mom was innocent but the judge blocked evidence from the jury that ultimately got her convicted and sent to jail He then turned around and allowed the married middle class woman get away with child abuse and death of a child. I don't remember all the details. I will have to go back and watch it again but the ADA at the time ended up challenging that judge. I love a good ultimatum... when this scene finished I literally paused, sat there in satisfied awe and then rewinded to watch it again. There was such a build up to her laying it out for him like this and when it finally came🤌perfecto
Edit: please please please do not engage in the debate in this comment. Its fiction and there's enough negativity in all our lives. There are no consequences to agreeing to disagree over a fictional universe. Im not saying to avoid ALL debates, constructive conflict is the key to progress. But if its not an enjoyable and respectful disagreement then why spend your time and energy on it? More heat than light and not worth it. To quote my mother "there's culture of life and culture of death in this world. Every decision you make contributes to one of the two, there's no middle ground." Words are powerful and precious, don't abuse them and don't waste them. In my experience the only thing internet trolls are really good for is practicing your de-escalation skills 😂 ask questions, don't make statements or assumptions, try to level with them and understand. And if need be, you can always walk away and never think about it again. There's no need to be threatened by oppositional opinions. If they're wrong, they're wrong, if they're right then you've learned something new. Just my two cents, do what your gonna do.

I love this scene right here! I agree with Captain Benson on this one 100%. People like Crystal Numez and other women who come from low-income neighborhoods and broken families matter to Captain Benson, they matter to SVU and they matter to me. The court decided that Crystal Numez's case did not matter and they basically did a middle finger to her, that was NOT right. I was upset with Crystal Numez. I LOVE how Benson stands up for victims of sexual assault and how she help victims turn into survivors, love it. I also love how Captain Benson stood up to Chief McGrath and telling him she will NOT be part of this double standard ever again. At 1:34, Olivia told it like it is, so proud of you. Have a nice day.

This scene is indeed very important, and Olivia is perfectly right to set the record straight for her precious commitment to victims of male sexual violence, but she also has in the back of her mind what the doctor had told her previously : that he could put her on early retirement if she wanted to, since she has already given more than twenty years of her life to her profession.
And Olivia is sometimes like that, masochistic, and without courage (like with the toxic Stabler), she provokes people, hoping that they make certain decisions for her, so that it clears her of doing it.
Olivia has been phenomenal with victims for all these years, having also had the humility to learn from her mistakes in her professional practice (that's what I 💜 about her), but she's not irreplaceable, no more.
    No one is.
