The interesting thing is Honda has created such a good motorcycle that ones 20 years old run just as well as a new one. Sure there are differences, but someone like me with a 2003 model can comfortably say that they have no wish or need to "upgrade" to a newer model. In many ways, they have built such a superb bike that it threatens future sales of their newest models (at least for a lot of people who don't need the newest bike to ride). Back some 50 years ago when they brought out the 305 Dream, I bought one and for the first time discovered that bikes don't have to leak or break down all the time. It was the first bike I ever owned that I spent more time riding than fixing. And Honda's quality has been superb from day one. Long live the Honda Goldwing.....
This video is 5 years old but it still rings true. The first time you ride a goldwing is like the first time you ever tasted milk chocolate. Smooooooth and delicious, not easily forgotten. Yep that's why we ride em.
I just got my Wing this spring . After almost 50 years of riding sport bikes and crotch rockets, jumping on the Wing was a bit of a transition. First the weight. Starting off is tougher, and riding around parking lots is rough. Also you have to plan parking carefully, especially on gravel and poor surfaces unless you have massive legs (I don't). But the ride is worth it. Smooth, comfortable, and once moving is very nimble and easy to ride. A big shock to me is how stable it is. Going from blacktop to gravel at speed is nothing, bumps and cracks in the road you don't even notice. Like the author, I haven't played with most of the buttons, haven't tried cruise yet, or the radio. I like the full coverage windshield, but sometimes miss a little wind in my face. Also, you get hot on a Goldwing, and I'm used to wearing full protective gear, but you will have to look for very lightweight riding gear for this bike. I've considered wearing shorts, as the heat from the engine sweats my legs the most. I think it will be great in cold weather. I use it whenever I am going someplace by myself (no one will ride with me). I even take it to the grocery store, and people gather when I roll my shopping cart up to a motorcycle and load all my stuff in it. It holds a lot! Over all, I have to agree, I love my wing
In 2013 I rode an F6b and it was amazing. I have been riding Harley’s for years and that bike still haunts me... comfortable, smooth and powerful. They are amazing motorcycles that need to be experienced to understand why they are so loved. Great review👍🏻
After many many (45) years of riding sport and dirt bikes, Gixxer 1000, Hayabusa, 2 FZ1's and a bunch in between, I broke down and bought a 2013 Goldwing F6B about a month ago. I had never owned one, never ridden one, I just took a leap of faith and bought one sight unseen from a dealer in Kansas City, MO. Wired them the cash, flew up and drove it home to Austin TX. Asher... you mimicked my feelings to the tee! I just love the heck out of this bike. Can't wait for the weather to cool down a bit more before I embark on my next epic adventure! I still have an FZ1 sitting in the garage but right now... the F6B has won me over.
I have 2 Goldwings. Both 2010’s. One yellow that I keep at my house in Colorado, and one black one that I keep here in South Florida. Like you, I didn’t know what to expect. I picked up my first one from a friend of mine‘s brother, who had passed away that we used to ride together, and the offer was too good to pass up. My intention was to Pick it up for mainly sentimental value and just bring it out to Colorado but I fell in love with this bike so much I kept it here in Florida. A couple years later I picked up a yellow one out in Colorado with only 6300 miles on it. It was a baby! Goldwing is a fantastic Motorcycle! I also own two VTX 1800’s. To answer your question, I have never tried one of the new gold wings yet. I know friends of mine that picked them up and swear by DCT but I have trouble believing it is that much better? It takes the fun out of riding a bike in my opinion but then again, I don’t know as I’ve never tried one. I suppose one day I will try it and have perhaps a different reaction.

I had to wait till retirement before I could put serious miles on my '07 Wing. Last year the wife & I rode 32k miles in 30 different states. Went to a great many historical sites, many days doing 600+ miles. The comfort is that good. It was triked before we went, old arthritic knees & ankles demanded it, but the comfort was still there, just alleviated the balance issues at a stop. As is said... "try it, you'll like it!"
I actually own the 2018 Wing, the DCT Tour version. I own a GSXR 750 as well. Honestly, after riding supersports for quite a while, I actually prefer the Goldwing. I have rode for 12 hour days quite a few times. The DCT doesn't make me feel disconnected from the road at all, it just makes it easier to focus on everything around me. It's pretty easy to maneuver after the first couple of days owning it. At first it felt like a massive beast. Now I can whip it around much easier. The torque down low is very nice. It can and will out accelerate most cars from a stop without sweating it. The Apple Carplay is nice. I never have to look at my phone or stop to mess with it. I can switch playlists easily to different music. The Navigation could be improved. It seems they didn't want to pay Garmin for the usage of their maps, which I think was a mistake. None of that takes away from the ride though. It's just ridiculous that a bike can be that comfortable of hundreds of miles. I don't really feel like the new version is an old mans bike. I'm in my mid 20s and just the amount of storage and ridability make it so convenient to use instead of a sport bike for longer trips. I can fill up all 110 liters of storage, then I can ratchet strap packs or bags on the passenger seat if I'm solo. I have motocamped alot with it across the country.. Glad you like the old version. I never got a chance to ride one yet.
I traded a 2003 Gold Wing for my 2018. Pros: lighter, even more nimble, THE GADGETS! (bluetooth, nav, ride modes, DCT tranny) Cons: smaller fuel tank (but better fuel economy), Nav needs MUCH more work, smaller cargo area. I used my Wing for commuting, so it works for me! Love it! I also own an '89 GL1500 and an '07 Road King.
I bought a 1984 in 1989 rode it until 2004 owned 4 Harleys since just bought a 2003 with 21k on clock 12:12 it is smooth handes like a champ I can't wait for spring it is faster than HD. I will be riding it to Sturgis for the Rally. And to Smokies. I did an Iron butt on 84 no problem. Wings are the best.😊
Just the video I was looking for. Have had a Kawasaki ZX14 for 12 years and always felt drained after a few hours riding. Looking at a Goldwing this weekend after being in denial about them for years and years.
@@HaggisTickler Just caught this reply before bed .....Yep, finished up with a 2005/6 Anniversary edition in silver. Have owed it now for 2 years and certainly don't regret the swap. I’m glad you went and reviewed the Wing, I stayed away because I didn’t want the temptation! Like you, my wife doesn’t want to ride on my CB, but she would on a new GoldWing, I’m just not ready to plunk down 30k!
I've had an old mans bike since I was 29, now nearing 60 I still have one. I always ask everyone that's going to buy a bike if they plan on hauling a passenger most of the time, if they are there is no better bike for two up than a Goldwing. I've offered several friends with sportsters to take their wives for a ride but warn them they will be getting rid of their sportster when I get back.
I just bought a 2002 Goldwing 1800 with 22,000 miles on it. I still like my Goldwing 1500 with 134,000 miles on it. They keep each other company in the garage is why I have two of them! Or, I use the 1500 for groceriy store runs and the 1800 for mountain road runs. Great bikes, I want a 1200 for comparison and will get one some day.
Sold my boulevard 1500 to get one of these. Looking at both the oldwr 1500 and newer 1800. Sooooo tell me which is better on feul and which runs better?
@@albertlechelt892 The 1800 gets better mileage by about 5 mpg. The 1500 rides smoother over bumpy roads. With a change out of Progressive shocks front and rear, the 1500 can ride very nice. I sold my 1800 and kept my 1500. The 1500's bags hold more than the 1800. My thought is this, if you want a sport tourer, buy one, don't think that an 1800 is a sport tourer. Motorcycle mags, keep trying to make the 1800 into a sport tourer. It is not. The 1800 is a lot faster than the 1500, but one should not buy a Goldwing to go fast through the twisties. I have to add (edit), I live in snow country so in cold weather, the 1800 starts always and the 1500 may not start all the time. Cold weather and long layovers make it hard to start the 1500, but the fuel injected 1800 starts right up.

I just got home from riding the Tail of the Dragon and the Skyway on my 2012 Goldwing, my third GW. I just laugh when I see a rider get on a GW for the first time.
Then you would have ROFL if you saw me test riding mine. My eyes were like saucers when I opened the throttle and let the clutch out to full on first gear.
I just got a 1999 Goldwing Aspencade, and I ended up removing the visor from my helmet because of the epic wind shield. I still keep the visor in the trunk, which is a wild thing to say when talking about a motorcycle. I'm still getting used to it since I just moved up from a 1995 Honda Magna, which is about 400lbs lighter. I'm just starting to get a bit more comfortable on it, and man... for a bike its size it has some serious attitude when you get on the throttle.
I took my 02 wing from Boston to Orlando and back, 2800 miles.. 1st day, 1000 miles.. 34 hr each way including rest and sleep.. labor day weekend trip, started on Wednesday night@8:30pm and home@1pm labor day, 2800 miles, less than 5days.. no complaints, had seat cushion tho.. a must have, i had an "egg seater" cushion was perfect in 90+degree temp.. this cushion reduces exhaustion dramatically...
I have an '03, and it's soooooooo smooth. I love it, and my wife keeps telling people that it's HER bike and I'm just the driver. LOL So reliable too. Just the normal maintenance and you're riding. Had a brake recall and that was taken care of, and really nothing else that I would consider major.
I put a lot of miles on my '07. I bought a 2018 DCT Its defiantly a different animal. Not the long distance King that om 07 was, but it handles like a big sport bike. I miss my old bike but not enough to go back, at lest not yet.
Can tell you are new to the bike....more weaving than a rug maker! But Goldwings are dependable, fast for a big bike and yep, comfortable. Wife and I did 2100 km around Washington in 2 days and felt like we had a restful, leisurely day all 3 days. And they corner well if you set them up properly...had kuriaken foot board on my and through the twisties they were kicking up...guys on other bikes could not believe how that thing went. Fun to lift the front end up too.
Just bought a 2018 GW 6 speed. Better than any bike I've ever owned but I still love my Road King better. Old school beast or space ship. They both have their own personality and both are very fun to ride. The Harley has one major advantage which is the fan base. If you are on a Honda, who cares. If you are riding a Harley, you are part of an international brotherhood.
I know someone who claimed Harley bagger for life. Pulled up on a newer Goldwing and didn’t even try to argue his past opinion. I said I’m afraid of the weight. He smiled and said “ Just ride one and get back to me !!!” 😉😂
To this day its funny seeing sean pull up like that. Its like playing a video game and theres one mission where you dont play as the main protagonist but he still shows up.😂
goldwings are awesome bikes. once you ride one, like you said thats when you "get it" they handle very well to the point here you can throw it around in corners and ham on the throttle with an amazing ease! honda has made a big bike, feel like a much smaller, nimbler bike than it is!
Former 750 Shadow owner here. It's like night and day. Definitely more fun on the Goldwing but the dead weight when you stop on the Goldwing can be felt.
I had the same concerns before buying my 02 GW but they drive themselves once you start moving. Just be prepared to plant your feet when not moving and look for even ground (side to side) so you can keep it balanced. It's such a joy to ride that any nuances incurred are so worth the additional effort! Do it! 🙂👍
This biker is very much not a sport bike fan. But the funny thing is that my last three bikes were a Wing, an ST and another Wing. So, I had two sport bikes in pretty clothes and a sport touring bike.
BTW, you don't have turn your signal off, it is self cancelling. Goldwings will do everything for you including cooking breakfast! There are a lot of Smart Old Men, didn't your mom tell you to listen to and repect your elders. How do you think we got this old, by being smart. Most of us Goldwing owners have ridden bikes all our lives and now we want to see the country. Have multiple 1000 mile days. Sportbikes for fun, Goldwings for Mama!
Wow about to buy one and you don’t know how often I leave my blinker on by accident on my zpro and fz1. My fellow riders always roll next to me and give me the flashing light signal lol. A goldwing is gunna sold my problem! Lol
Hi Just happen to see your video...im curious about getting one of the GL, currently ridding a Triumph bonneville t100.....but just worried about the weight
I don’t know why SRK won’t answer questions, but the bikes are about the same weight, however the GoldWing sits up a bit higher and has a different seating profile. I own and love both bikes.
Bought nmy wing n rode it home, 840 miles! Been ridein it ever since. 312 846 miles later i love this long miler champion

How in the world do you get the front end up? Start with a big preload bounce?
Just bought a 2018 GW 6 speed. Better than any bike I've ever owned but I still love my Road King better. Old school beast or space ship. They both have their own personality and both are very fun to ride. The Harley has one major advantage which is the fan base. If you are on a Honda, who cares. If you are riding a Harley, you are part of an international brotherhood.
I own an older Electra Glide besides my GL1800. I have the best of both worlds. And I love them both for very different reasons.
Its like playing a video game and theres one mission where you dont play as the main protagonist but he still shows up.😂
my dad has one and he loves it
i never wanted a bike or bike license until i saw the new gold wing dct. never wanted something so much.
i own a 2018 gl1800 dct, and it runs great. Sport mod is scary, if your just starting out on this beast. crazy pick up
Test rode a DCT and LOVE IT!
goldwings are awesome bikes. once you ride one, like you said thats when you "get it" they handle very well to the point here you can throw it around in corners and ham on the throttle with an amazing ease! honda has made a big bike, feel like a much smaller, nimbler bike than it is!
Soon as I drove my 05 wit 20k miles I was hooked
I ride a shadow 750 and I'm still trying to get my head around how to ride a bike that weighs nearly half a ton.
Totally different, and like he said, you don't really notice the weight since it's so well balanced and the weight is down low.
How does the seat feel on the 2001-2017 goldwing vs. the 2018+ generation?
Ive ridden both and theyre both comfortable but the 5th generation(2001-2017)is more comfortable especially since its wider.
Honda should make their version of the 1250GSA with this engine...
Be ice if you talked a out acceleration. I have zzr 1200.
I gotta do my drivers test on this
Which one is heavier between that gold wing and Electra glide autra classic?
I don’t know why SRK won’t answer questions, but the bikes are about the same weight, however the GoldWing sits up a bit higher and has a different seating profile. I own and love both bikes.
He may say "Smeuth" 30 times in this video. lol But he is forgiven since he is a GW fan.
What year is that goldwing
He tells you right at 0:30
So never ridden a bike like a Goldwing huh? So you usually ride slow, under powered, bad handling bikes huh?
wheres the original host /rider? he makes the best review vids....
I have a 98 Valkyrie Tourer. I just smile
Go Drive a older bike a 1500 goldwing they ride better yet..
Im trying to decide 1500 or 1800... which rides better... which has better fuel economy.
Bullet proof engine.
Dun, your anxiety is in your voice. Kiss 😘
We can't hear the bike because of the non stop talking,Just take a nice long deep breath.
