Huge thank you William for every of your 50 videos and all content before. I watched almost all of it and also bought your book on release.
I learned so much about stoicism in an easy understanding way through your words and all that helped me a lot through a tough time with accepting the external and still focusing on my internal. Controlling what I really can and also developing myself. And also thanks to your brother Jordan and his also outstanding work. You all and your guests are so motivating!
I'm looking forward to your new approach and what guests you'll have. Have a great and peaceful time in the future!

Haven't finished it yet but this is what I love about reading Epictetus's Discourses so far. It seems to be aimed at helping us develop a practical application of Stoicism instead of just sitting, theorizing about it and accidentally understanding a book's idea of Stoicism rather than actually using the philosophy to have a better life.

It’s good to make a journal just for practical application. Hunt all the practical training throughout the stoics work and record them so you can get right to it when needed and not be distracted by all the Theory in between. It’s good to have both but the practical application is most important for someone who takes stoicism seriously.

Learning to pause and assess before reacting has genuinely changed how I handle tough situations. Stoicism might be ancient, but it’s a lifesaver in today’s world.

Practice makes perfect. Don't try to do everything at once, pick a virtue and keep practicing it.

Thank you so much for the 50. I have looked forward to hearing these. I think I got the most out of this last one because of what you said about “if you want to be a …. Then be a ….” I used it all day today and I know it will stick with me. I look forward to your future posts. Thanks again.

Totally agree with your take on 'positive affirmations'!
I found originally I didn't even have awareness until after the fact, so assessment wasn't an option. What I found allowed me to gain awareness and give myself the space to make an assessment was practicing tolerating the feeling. Initially I did this in a safe place, like my sofa, I would imagine the situation that annoyed me and then practice tolerating the feeling without trying to push it away, tell myself stories about it or act on it. If I caught myself doing any of these I would just bring myself back to feeling the feeling. It was surprisingly difficult. But once I could do it on my sofa, I started noticing that space you talk about in real interactions. Although admittedly at first, I was aware but still unable to chose wisely how to respond, that was perhaps the most frustrating phase. With more practice I was able to chose more wisely how to respond.

A guy with a beard that lived many, many years ago doesn't understand the world today. Everybody knows the difference between good and bad. Make your own way!

Our daily schedules and labors may differ, but the intelligibility and consistency of reality has not changed, nor has our nature as animals endowed with rationality. Someone who is able to observe and analyze those facets of our world can draw useful conclusions that still apply to and benefit our lives today, regardless of when they lived.
Everybody understands their own interpretation of good and bad, but the concepts are not universal nor readily apparent. Things that I have thought were good and bad have evolved as I've gained more life experience, which shows me that we should be consistently analyzing and improving our understanding of what is good or bad, otherwise we may be harming ourselves and others due to our ignorance.
I don't think the Stoics would help me learn how to mod Fallout New Vegas or give me tips for parallel parking, but that is not why I try to study their works.

@@Nullfighter Humans just want to believe in something/anything, put a rock in the desert humans will worship it. I choose to use common sense and experience as opposed to old books. Maybe I'll take a couple tips, but I'm not dedicating my life to beliefs from long ago or getting a Stoic tattoo anytime soon.🗿

@@thebrotherhood246 Oh, Good thing they came up with common sense I don't think we ever would've come up with such a concept. LOL And I'm not condemning those from the past. Next old book you find bring it in a basement and chant the words. Maybe wisdom will show itself.
