Why Must Palestinians Pay for Germany’s Crimes Against European Jews? Plus, Pinkwashing

  • German support for Israel appears to be unshakable no matter what the Israelis do to Palestinians. The irony of course is that much of this support for Israel is justified as necessary to make up for the German Holocaust against European Jews. It seems Palestinians are paying for Europe’s crimes.
To discuss this phenomenon Rania Khalek is joined by Denijal Jegic, German author and post doctoral researcher at the Lebanese American University with a PhD in American studies who wrote about this topic for TRT in a piece titled, “Palestinians must suffer so Germany can feel better about its past.”
Rania and Denijal also discuss Israel’s pinkwashing - the use of LGBTQ+ rights to distract from occupation and war crimes - and how western countries have adopted these practices as a form of cultural imperialism against the Middle East.

At Breakthrough News we believe in the power of independent media. Five mega-corporations dominate the media landscape - controlling 90% of what we read, watch and listen to. They control the news cycle, to which social media and even most “alternative” media is forced to respond. We are breaking through that cycle.
We tell the untold stories of resistance from poor and working-class communities - because out of these stories we will construct a different narrative of the world, as it is and in real time.
People’s movements in every corner of the globe are changing history and shifting consciousness. But these movements barely receive any coverage from the corporate media. They need visibility. They need amplification. They need a media arm to break through.

There is no guilt that passes to the children and grandchildren. The Federal Republic of Germany has been advocating a two-state solution for years, unfortunately Israel was not interested in it and currently has no more powerful ally than the USA and it stands.

Sorry, but what kind of nonsense is this.
Germany's foreign policy has been largely determined by the USA since WW2 and its accession to NATO.
This also means that we are officially on the side of Israel as well as all other western states/NATO states etc..
Nevertheless, the two-state solution was also demanded by Germany and the current government does not necessarily represent the opinion of the population.
In the first place the USA supports Israel without any restrictions.
No war can be cleared, but there is also no guilt that passes to the children and children's children.

German here. This is a very is a simplified perspective. You oversimplify historical complexities and the involvement of various actors, such as the British colonial rule, the Balfour Declaration of 1917, and subsequent developments like the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. The creation of the State of Israel was not merely a unilateral decision by a foreign power but was endorsed by the United Nations through Resolution 181 (the Partition Plan for Palestine) in 1947. The Implementation of the plan was met with violence and rejection by Arab states and Palestinian leaders which marked the beginning of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Israelis were always for a two state solution but the Arabs never accepted this plan. Instead, they gave rise to several terror organization whose leaders earn billions of dollars and whose "voters" dont see any of that money, including the Palestinians. How can you earn billion of dollars and your own people see nothing? You only do that because war helps you to stay rich. Please blame the Hamas for the situation in Gaza or at least Great Britain. Germany has nothing to do with this. We are simply on the right side of history.

You can be beaten , tortured and stay in prison without legal help for years! Sounds like South Africa to me but worst because it not only has gone on longer but people are no longer being simply segregated but out right murdered a long with their infant babies! This psychological foes two things it puts fear in the next generation and by killing them like what was done to Native indigenous Indian people they are no longer a threat because they will no longer exist

i'm from Austria, and here it's even worse than in Germany.
during the latest Israeli bombing of Gaza (where like 5 times as many Palestinians were killed than israelis) our government (a coalition between the green party, and center right) raised the Israeli flag to show solidarity with Israel. traditionally the far right 'freedom party' (a party founded by former members of the nazi party) also had a great relationship with Israel. the reason is pretty obvious: Israel is kind of their rolemodel: a big security/police state, big military, corrupt, spy technology exporter. that's the kind of thing they want in Austria as well (and to an extent have already built).
and to the guest's point about antisemitisim not being specific to the nazis. in Austria before the nazis came to power, we had an Austrofascist regime (the center right party dispanded parliament and established a dictatorship). under that regime the nazis were illegal. and they cleansed jews and socialists from universities and then bragged about the universities being 'free of jews'. the catholic church (Austria is mostly catholic) had an opinon on these policies, the bishop of vienna at the time called the policies of the Austrofascists "the most important policies since the counterreformation". it's not too surprising that the church approved of, among other things, cleansing of jews, since they have spread antisemitic propaganda about the jews being the 'Christkillers' for centuries.

It's a tempting narrative that Germany would be making up its genocidal past in this perverse way, but it misses the point. The real issue is EU imperialism (for which Germany is the central power). The statement by the foreign minister Maas was outrageous but not exceptional within the EU. During the Gaza raid, the Finnish foreign ministry similarly talked about Israel's "right to protect its citizens from terrorist attacks". The EU needs Israel to make the Middle East more disorderly and thus more exploitable.

Need to stress that West Gernmany never went through denazification while East Germany along with most Easter Block countries did thanks to the USSR. In general, when there is talk of Germany's actions in the post WWII period, it is West Germany. For instance, East Germany offered logistics to anti-apartheid groups in Southern Africa. It is important to make that distinction.

Thank you for speaking out about the topic!
As it sadly lost none of its importance, I just want to add some things being German myself.
    - We are taught nothing about Palestinians in schools. As if they do not exist. Honestly in our schools the entire world region does not exist (I am in my late 20s now, there might be slight changes and schooling differs as our 16 federal states are responsible for it.).
    - What he says about schooling in regards to colonialism in Africa is true. I learned nothing about it in school, even though I choose history as one of my "main subjects" in my last two school years.
    - 1948 is also not taught, probably those manipulators do not manage to come up with a narrative they dare teach in schools. But that also means most Germans know absolutely nothing about the Nakba. And if they learn these days that the term exists, it is only via manipulative media that taint the term not to be about the sorrow of the Palestinans and the misery and opression that followed. They present it as propaganda term that almost only refers to regret of the Palestinians and others in the region not being able to win the 1948 war and drive out the Jews.
    - Most people are not aware that Israel ignores a lot of UN resolutions (most for decades).
    - The tactic to taint any antizionism or any however substantial criticism of what Israel does cannot be overstated.
    - If there are too many arguments for that to work, it is so much ignorance and whataboutism.
The best arguments are usually attacked to the point that they are denied even if proof piles up.
    - If you point this tactics out, you are either igbored or accused of being antisemitic.
    - The media coverage is lately showing some sparks of hope if you look for them, but the hypocricy and dehumanization is still extremely dominant. And I am talking about media that usually when it comes to unrelated topics provide sophisticated, thoughtful, well-researched coverage. Just to point out the contrast. These people know full well what they are doing. They are too bright to not understand it.
Most atrocities against Palestinians are not reported about. At the same time it feels like every frustrated, hope-ridden stone-thrower is covered five times to prove how awful Palestinians are in the opinion these people are doing everything to push on everyone.
    - The media are also quick to push the label "Pro-Hamas" on demonstrators without any effort whatsoever to differentiate between a few who might really entertain somewhat toxic ideas and the large majority who just does not want to sit still while our goverment condones what Israel does.
-That is if they do not ban demonstrations.
    - Almost anyone who speaks up about the death and misery the Palestinians endure is accused of not acknowledging Israeli deaths and fear enough, but never vice versa.
    It is thorough brainwashing.
Just what came quickly to my mind, this is not an attempt of being a complete list.
I will also not provide proof. Read accounts of others writing about it and decide for yourself if you believe it.

The countries that these two were happily praising earlier in the video are the ones responsible for most of the pain and suffering in the Arab world today. Why not move on from the specific Israel/Palestine question, and address why millions of Middle Eastern citizens are feeling the need to migrate West. Hi guys and selam.
great show. I'd like to suggest looking a little deeper into to things related to ur topic.
First are the Zionist founders of the state of Israel. Especially their commitment to Judaism. It will not surprise that Israel has developed in this monstrous thing after recognising the mindsets of its founders and how far they are from God serving believing Jews.
Second is German racism. I do believe that it's roots are deeper and older than people think. These folks are arrogant in a way that is is often hidden behind a righteous face but, oh boy. Even the ones wearing yoga pants and sandals all the time are sure that they know everything better and their ways are superior and should be accepted and adopted by everybody everywhere. With the arrival of the millions of muslim refugees from those countries the Germans have helped to destroy, they have even created new words like, Leitkultur which translates to Leading Culture.

Same sentiment for the Dutch: in no country outside Nazi Germany were people so eager to hand in Jews to the Nazi's.

    • @PAULLONDEN
      @PAULLONDEN 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Not so sure if it was "eager" we were after all ruled by a ruthless occupier . Although it wouldn't surprise me . For decades we are brainwashed with stories of Anne Frank and how many Jews could count on being taken in and hidden. The Netherlands too is a guaranteed unconditional Israel supporter ; which was only understandable after all the horror stories the liberated nations were fed.
No one knew then about Washington's empire politics where war is a valid tool to realise world dominance ambitions.
We all were very successfully lied to that "America Is Good" which at the time was understandable , after all , Uncle Sam was our "liberator". Not knowing the U.S. was part of cooking up WW3 which served the U.S. (and Israel) very well.
History is about to repeat itself.

German's support for Israel is a trauma based on atrocities committed in world war 2. It is very difficult to criticise Israeli politics and not be considered anti-Semitic. I live here. I understand the problem. To criticise Israel now would be seen as deserting allegiance to Israel. I think many people here know this. The man on the street is starting to wake up to what this really means. I wonder when the British will start to really think about 1. Supporting the "giving" of land to be called Israel and at the same time the promise to Arab communities that they would have their independence, as a thank you for military support, then getting out when the proverbial hit the fan. No country is exempt from any unworthy support.

I don't share your argument, and not just because the perpetrators and victims are no longer with us, at least not in the vast majority, and because the guilt of the grandparents does not pass on to the children and grandchildren,
(although the coming to terms with the Second World War in Germany was apparently intended to achieve exactly this) but because since the Second World War and our accession to NATO, we have primarily let the USA determine foreign policy to a large extent; this also applies to the entire NATO and others Allies to a certain extent.
The USA has a very special relationship with Israel, and we fully support this country because Israel means access to the Middle East for the USA. These are geopolitical considerations of a great power and Germany is involved in this, that's the bitter pill.
