- Aurangzeb is one of the most controversial figures in Indian history. He came to power after a brutal war of succession among his own brothers, including Dara Shikhoh, Shah Shuja and Murad Baksh. In this video, I explain the war of succession in hindi, what would have happened if Dara Shikhoh became the emperor and why is Aurangzeb so hated in India?

Dara Shikoh was good Scholar but unfit to be ruler as per the norm prevalent at that point of time. Dara was liberal like Akbar but lacked the warrior qualities of Akbar. Akbar fought against the orthodox clerics by extending his folds to Rajputs. Among his close associates were Raja Todar Mal, Rahim, Abu Fazal, Faizi etc who were warriors as well as liberal intellectuals.

Amazing video. But I would like to make one small correction. Moughals were not kings or sultans but they are regarded as Emperors. There are mainly 2 reasons for that:-
1)Initial Moughal rulers (to be precise, first 6 of the moughal dynasty) controlled vast area of India.
2) The name of the Emperor was announced in Friday Khutbah by muslim religiuos persons and in this way, they got the legitimacy from religional background.
Most of the time, kings or sultans didn't bother about religional validity.

dara shikho is weak leader. idk how he will rule but definitely if he rule then most probably the mughal army strength will be less as compare to army strength when aurangzeb was ruling but, maybe mughal empire I think if dara shiko become a successful leader (that is very hard to imagine) so mughal empire will be very diverse in terms of religion. but if dara shiko didn't become a successful leader then possibilities are there that other empire may destroy mughal Empire or army leader's of mughal empire may revolt against him.
we not have idea about his leadership skills so we can't say about it. there are two senreio what if dara shiko become king of mughal Empire
1) he can be a weak leader and may lead to destruction of mughal empire
2) if he successful to become a leader then mughal empire might be diverse empire in religion but talking about borders so I think mughal Empire will have less territory as compare to aurangzeb rule but it will be diverse religious empire.

Things which he had not mentioned is the fact that dara was boastful and tried to kill aurangazeb twice first one was in the battle against khanate of Bukhara at 1649-1653 where he purposely changed the general of aurangazeb army and tried to control it himself being the fact that aurangazeb was the one fighting this caused many mismatch and aurangazeb escaped from the Uzbek forces. Dara then wasted lot of wealth trying his own way which never worked. Most brutal was the second time when aurangazeb was busy with war in Bijapur against adil Shah dara again called back the Mughal army and gave aurangazeb's location to qutub Shahis and Marathas. Yet aurangazeb escaped this was the main reason why he wanted to kill dara shikoh. He never hated dara he let his own daughter marry dara's son which many pro Hindus eliminate he saved dara at the age of 14 from wild elephant attack during a show by cutting the elephants legs then further Shuja and jashwant Singh's help dara and Shah Jahan were constantly asking help from beruni to attack aurangazeb as the mecca prophet never accepted aurangazeb throne this made aurangazeb lock Shah Jahan in cell and the peace treaty of jashwant before the war of succession was a assassination attempt he asked aurangazeb to meet Shah Jahan and his plan was leaked. Murad was a puppet of Shah Jahan he had already planned to betray aurangazeb before the Khambhat war by manipulating the soldiers. Above mentioned things should also be included to show that Shah Jahan is equally culprit like aurangazeb.
Best out come would be Dara sikho sitting on throne and Aurangjeb as his military commander
Darashiko may a good king. But if you clearly see that Aurangzeb was work hard practicaly. And had a great aim for the empire. On the other hand Dara was not work hard for claming the thorn and alawys focus on culture. Which could be a good quality . But on the other hand his rival Aurangzeb alawy work hard,had a great aim for his empire and struggle for the thorn.This struggle and pain made him strong and power full. End of the day the history remainds the people whom were truly done struggle and work hard for his great aim. Aurangzeb was making him self perfect for the throne. Just like Asoka he killed his brother to full fill his dream.It was common on that time brother kill there brother for thorn. after him, the mughal empire never had a monarch who ruled for a long time. The last Mughal emperor was Bahadur Shah II and he was removed after the sepoy mutiny of 1857.
