Hey Tyler, dev here. Thanks for playing the demo! There will be a huge update for the Next Fest based on the feedback I've been receiving. (By the way, I'll be reading the comments here from time to time, so everyone feel free to leave more feedback) For the next update: - You get a glimpse of every card at the start of the battle. - Traps won't skip the turn, you can still flip a second card to get information. - Someone mentioned in the comments that would be cool if when cards are combined they had a special effect. I think it's a great idea and I'll definitely think about it. - Boss ability will be reworked to make it fairer - The Spiked Devil's reflect damage ability will be reworked as well - You will be able to choose a hero with a special ability when starting a run. You'll also be able to unlock more of them by completing runs - There will be more than double the number of relics currently Thanks again and have a great day!
@@Rappy99 I'm thinking about making the ones at weaker battles to disappear after being revealed once. Or maybe I could add health to them, and they self inflict 1 damage every time they get revealed.
@@Rappy99 Nahh, the whole point is being punished for forgetting. It's too punishing not knowing in the beginning, but with the changes mentioned, it's perfectly reasonable to stay. You could also just not have them trigger the first time they're revealed, but that doesn't really make sense.
The hilarity of Olenky poopooing the relics for helping eliminate/ mitigate trap damage and immediately continues to pick the same trap cards is chef's kiss.
even as a final boss, i feel like "shuffle the table each hit" feels cheap in a matching game. like, it almost feels like its telling u to be good enough at the core mechanic that u scale enough by the final boss to... skip over the core mechanic? and i dont super love that. maybe thats subjective tho. either way great vid thanks for playin
Adding hero specific effects also adds to strategy, be it something simple as: (sword) does additional damage (hammer) is not affected by enemy effects (staff) heals for the same amount (shield) blocks half of damage taken (book) reveals 2 random cards (tambourine) adds +1 to next attack With this and the fact it takes 2 cards to attack you can come up with a sequence that benefits you the most but to do that you need to remember more as you're leaving the cards in play
Another (even easier) way of differentiating the heroes is damage types. Like sword and hammer deals phys damage, book and staff magical and pistols and bow - ranged. And different enemies suffer more damage from the given damage type. It makes you come up with optimal sequnces every time you face a new enemy. Also I would like to see your character effects like a part of in-run progression with the ability to choose and upgrade some of your cards.
@@deltamico but then the game would be more luck based because if you match 4 of the non damaging cards, your enemy have attack several times while you haven't done any damage. It works with match 3 because you can strategize but it doesnt work with pair match, because its mostly luck with no strategy.
The solve is larger grids and WAY more abilities to scan (like mine sweeper) or look at some cards. The boards need to be MUCH larger and always five you a first glance. Found pairs need to have powers that help solve other things, or move things, or reveal traps, or all touching cards... So you get excited over what pairs to flip, and the order you flip them in (to get certain powers) will matter!!! MUCH larger boards, Way more powers, less 1 out of 8 guesses. This game could do well. I am thinking Ballatro meets Pyrnene.
I think this game would be better if the traps didn't end your turn. So if you got a trap first, you still can use that failed flip to get information. That, or they shouldn't do damage. Both is just too much
Also, traps could restrict, which cards you can open next. Then you should think carefully on the order, to have an unknown cards near the possible trap.
