I Speedran Catching 100 Shiny Pokemon

- With the more recent years of Pokemon releases, Pokemon fan claim that shiny hunting is easier than it has even been before - but is it really? I took on this idea in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Indigo Disk DLC, to see how quickly I could catch 100 Shiny Pokemon. Yeah, I've been working on my Full Shiny Living Form Dex, for over two years now. Please end my suffering...
I really wish they would bring back the audible chime that Legends Arceus made when a shiny spawned. It was super helpful for those tough-to-spot shinies, especially now that we have mons that are small and decently hidden in the grass.
Or at least the shiny sparkles from LGPE

Same. I never owned a Legends Arceus game card, but i saw people find shinies in the game before and wish they had the overworld sparkles and noise in the gen 9 games as well. It would be so much easier to notice shinies
Yeah I loved that feature but apart from the ponyta and Pokémon I transferred in I hardly heard it despite having the shiny charm I've only caught like 7 shinys 😅 best highlights were getting a shiny shinx in the first hour of the game and then running into a shiny chimchar when going to the outbreak
I have colourblindness, I basically relied heavily on those cues to find my shinies- I don't even want to know how many I've missed because they removed the sparkles and chime :(

John, outbreaks of Sinistea and Polchageist were updated when the Teal Mask came out. There are outbreaks for both, if one Pokémon in that outbreak is authentic, they all are authentic and vice versa.

At 22:30 during the sinistea outbreak, the form of sinistea is locked to outbreak so if it’s an outbreak of phony forms it’ll only spawn phony and never an authentic meanwhile if the outbreak is of authentic it’ll only spawn authentic and never phony
The dedication to go and catch a lapras in lets go for the bit is crazy considering the current method in that game
Also his inner Legends Arceus is getting to his brain he called the costal biome the coastlands

Honestly started losing it when you started talking about the polar caves in New Hampshire. You unlocked so many childhood memories of yearly trips going to the polar caves and the lemon squeeze and orange crush, haven’t thought about that place in well over a decade.

Late to the party because I wanted to finish the DLC before watching this, but loved this video!! Always a pleasure to watch you shiny hunt, and was very rewarding after many of your videos where you'd hunt hours for a single pokemon to see you get a whole bunch in 10 minutes in the middle there! I gotta admit, I was already impressed by PM7's "all shiny starters" in a week, but this tops it.
I have a theory that established shiny hunters have an internal enzyme in their body that makes finding shinies easier and easier as they collect more and more. Case in point - Johnstone.
Also, anecdotally, my brother and I were hunting a beldum for my VGC team and I've only recently started hunting shinies. I came away with one. My brother, who's been hunting for several years now, came away with two, one of them were marked :/
I have like 150 shiny pokemon, I get dry spells like crazy though
My first shiny was a pidgey that i couldnt catch. I didnt get any more until Legends Arceus, but those were mostly outbreaks. So far ive gotten 2 random shinies in S/V, and a shiny Cyndaquil i hunted in HGSS
30 shirts in 15 hours on shiny sandwiches is actually probably low odds.
I got just over 60. I am trying for a full shiny living dex. It takes me hours on average to find one, even with all the methods. My sibling is not a hardcore hunter. They're basically a living shiny charm, having about the same amount of shinies as me, except a good majority just kinda happened, whereas most of mine were hunted. Max amount of shinies I've found after a day of hunting, 2. My sibling found 5 without trying the other day lmao.
I may just be an outlier who should not be counted though idfk lol
Trust me that is not the case, in pokemon black i was doing a all shiny run and im hard stuck on a shiny water type.
I have a total of 200 + shiny across all my games between gen 4 to 7

the way i found a shiny sinistea was literally because i jumped over one of the area borders in the terrarium and landed ON a pink teacup. i was bewildered.
i have almost a box full of shinies, despite never doing shiny hunting and never even using sandwiches. ive probably missed a lot. its still very special every time, though.
It's been fun seeing John evolve from the Professor Oak Challenge guy, to the "how fast can I complete the game?" guy, to Competitive Shiny Hunter

If you add in not poketubers specifically but game variety streamers there are videos like restart the game if you get hit challenges across various poketubers/youtubers and pikasprey yellow's soft-lock picking series.

The milcery/floette/litwick outbreaks with the charms were insane. Found all 5 flowers and 7 milcery’s in one day. Hoping we have some more events like that for sure

The thing I love most about Johnstone os also the most irratating. He will do a challenge for 50 hours, edit it all and ONLY take the absolute peak highlights and it will still be a 30 minute video. youre so right about solosis, i outbreak hunted one and ended up respawning after 60kos for probably two hours before i looked at the sv model and went oh GOD i probably missed several. i thought it would be brighter!!!

10:05 Rotom was my first ever shiny. I was just casually playing Scarlet while completing my living dex and it just randomly spawned. I screamed so loudly cause I was so excited. I caught it and named it tangerine. It’s my beloved pokemon. Rotom holds a special place in my heart now.
I started two weeks ago, almost got to 100! Spiny hunting in this game is addicting 😂

Just a note for the future.
With the sinistea and polchageist lines you can get outbreaks that are the authentic and artisan forms making the shiny hunts for them guaranteed.
I had that happen to me where I found an outbreak that was unseen for me. Caught a polchageist and it was artisan form.

5:43 Rellor was the 2nd shiny I got in my main story play through. The first was Psyduck about 1/2 an hour in, and the last was Dunsparce right before I went and fought Sada.
Your Minior catch was a lot like mine with Tandemaus. I saw an outbreak, ran over it, thought "this is going to be tricky," and literally the first one I auto battled was shiny! (If only I'd succeeded with Dratini outbreaks.)

I got four Shiny Delibird in one outbreak during my Christmas break in Paldea. I caught each one in a different and RARE pokeball.
btw john zebstrika was actually catchable in oras from certain mirage spots after defeating or catching kyogre/groudon and the dex expands

I find it so funny how we complain now when a shiny takes over and hour when the fastest hunts used to be like 8 hours and tbh i dont really hate that shiny pokemon are easier to find now because you can still go back and hunt shiny pokemon in the games where theyre difficult if you want to but for those who dont have 8 hours a day to soft reset for a shiny starter or whatever but still want their fav starter as a shiny its really convenient
It should be noted that outbreaks of a specific form will always be that specific form. So, for the sinistea outbreak, it would always be phony sinistea (though the area spawns sinistea naturally so there's always the chance you get a non-outbreak one there)

Does Save state work for shiny hunting?
I save state right before encountering, encounter if it’s not shiny then I hit load state to right before I encountered the Pokemon. I do want to mention I AM getting different natures and EV’s every time

I think I might have ya beat for the Savannah biome. As soon as the cut scene with Lacey ended I took 2 steps and got plowed into by a shiny Doduo.
And yet I never managed a shiny Milcery during the outbreaks. I did get 2-3 shiny Duraludon though during that event.

I remember hunting authentic sinistea in an outbreak and lost like 5 hours of hunting because I didn't know it had memento. Thankfully I got another one 15 mins later.
Yeah the milcery outbreaks were crazy, i wanted to get an alcremie with each topping and it took like less than 2 sandwhiches
