Honestly, the most infuriating and disturbing part of this was the all-too-real conversation of a dick boss heckling you about bereavement when you just suffered a loss.
Realistically, the employee wouldn't get the day off. They'd have to find someone to work their shift to take their place. Odds of that happening.. slim.

I remember i got fired because i got one strike for being 2 minutes late to clock in, a second strike for being covid positive and not feeling safe to come in and my third for a family members death. I remember when I worked at McDonald's for several years, my store put me in charge of cleaning up after the mcrib feeding frenzy. It was always so awful, the people were never satisfied with just 1, or 2, it had to be at least 4 or more per person. One time I slipped in the after-birth sauce, and the people were so hungry they ate half of one of my legs before the shift lead could get me out of there. 😭I got written up for it too, because I was endangering public safety.
They made me sign a contract to give a month's notice if I thought I was at risk of dying in the future, said they'd fire me if I no-called, no-showed in the event of my untimely death.
