  • 🙌 🌉 Nuneham Viaduct has reopened a day early after a major project to replace a 160-year-old supporting structure.
A full timetable is set to resume this weekend after the line between Didcot and Oxford closed in April. 😀

Thanks for getting this done. It's been a massive pain having it closed, but I've very much appreciated the regular updates, and it's obviously been a huge undertaking, so well done to all involved.

Congratulations, terrific effort. Hoping tptb who make policy learn and base their ideas on what can be done when all minds are put on the right track, or rail.

Fascinating video, if you have footage, a time lapse video of the work would make interesting viewing

Excellent job. Congratulations. Great to see that diligence (even when there may have been some difficulty procuring materials) pays off.
I love visiting the UK from Oz, and always travel by rail, as do a high percentage of Australians.

I'd love to see an explanation of what makes the ground bouncy like that.

A long story short … is that it’s very similar to ‘Quicksand’. If you have a certain sub grade material (can be granular like sand or even clay) that then has enough water content, then add some loading upon it, it can act more ‘bouncy’ as a result. Material can also ‘liquify’ and slide (as per land slides). Conversely, if you have a sub grade material like clay and it dries out over time, it can shrink … and cause other issues!
