What made Haiyan/Yolanda so deadly was a combination of two things:
    1. A sudden Tsunami-like storm surge (look up the footage).
    2. The majority of Evacuation centers were completely washed away.
The normal people and the local government units were surprised that the water came up unexpectedly high (Tsunami-like).

It seems you really don't need a cat 5 storm to cause extreme damage.
You only need a somewhat strong storm, and a heavily packed area with alot of people, and weak structures.

The reason why no hurricane from the Atlantic is here is because Typhoons and Cyclones do much more damage because most structures in the Atlantic especially in the United States are built to withstand hurricanes to some level.
But if there was a list just for Hurricanes then Katrina,Galveston,Irma,Maria,Sandy,Dorian,Harvey,Camille,Mitch and Gilbert would definitely be on the list

This demonstrates how where a cyclone hits has just as much to do with how damaging it is to how strong or large it is. The coasts of East Asia are lined with settlements which feature a lot of building packed closely together and are not of the best construction. Therefore, when going by structures damaged/destroyed, East Pacific typhoons (and just about anything that hits Bangladesh) just have more to destroy than Atlantic Hurricanes.
Though, East Pacific Typhoons also don't fool around when it comes to strength thanks to its size, topography, and climate. Atlantic Hurricanes have topped out around 190mph for wind speed and in the 880's for pressure. Typhoons going north of 200mph and down into the 870's has happened a few times.
