The Western Pacific basin is home to the world's typhoons and is the most active basin in the world with 27 tropical storms forming in an average year. Out of the over one thousand typhoons in recorded history, many have been historic for their own reasons. In this video, we will be counting down our Top 10 Typhoons of All Time, recounting just some of these incredible storms.

Super Typhoon Haiyan was one of the most destructive storms ever to hit The Philippines since Tip. $2.3 billion dollars in damages hundreds of people lost their homes. 6,900 fatalities 195mph winds (wind gusts over 210mph)
It's one of the deepest tropical cyclones on Earth in 2013.
Tip didn't hit the Philippines??
Tip in terms of its size was the largest ever recorded in 1979.

2. Typhoon Tip (Lowest pressure and largest windfield)
3. Typhoon Goni (Highest windspeed at landfall)
4. Typhoon Megi (The most recent recon in WPAC since its decommission during the 80's, one of the lowest pressure)
5. Typhoon Forrest (Fastest intensifying storm in Air pressure)
6. Typhoon Vera (Most powerful japanese typhoon at landfall)
7. Typhoon Mangkhut (One of the longest sustaining category 5)
8. Typhoon nock-ten (Strongest christmas typhoon)
9. Typhoon Nancy (Tied with Hurricane patricia for the fastest windspeed recorded in a tropical cyclone)
10. Typhoon Nuri (Powerful category 5 that severely upset the jetstream that caused a hellish winter in north america)
Honorable mention:
Typhoon Bopha (One of the most southern category 5 typhoon to form in WPAC)
Typhoon Ida (One of the highest windspeed)
Typhoon Meranti (Second strongest at landfall, tied with haiyan)
Typhoon Rammasun (Strongest South China Sea typhoon)
Typhoon Meranti holds the record for the most intense South China Sea typhoon, not Rammasun.
Megi landfall in my province i was 4 yrs old at that time😅and s. Typhoon haima is stronger than s. Typhoon mangkhut if you ask the people who experienced that two storm because they landfall in the same province

@@gianeronabalos1977 landfall observations says otherwise. 933 mbars was recorded in the eyewall of Mangkhut after weakening supporting (160 kts, 894 mbars possible intensity). Haima had weaker observations than Mangkhut

What about Typhoon Karen that hit Guam in 1962? Barometric pressure of 894md and winds over 200 mph. My dad was a weather pilot flying WB-50's and made 64 penetrations into Typhoons out of Guam and Japan.
I remember while waiting for Haiyan to pass Negros, my family shared their experience about Mike.

You listed Rita earlier at over 200 mph, I’m fairly certain, and matches up with many other reanalysis estimates of around 210 mph, which would match with its low pressure, yet you lowered it to 185 mph why? Also you had an individual animation of Mike listing it at 205 mph, which I completely agreed with along with 874 mb, and again you lower it?
They reanalysis they did may have found other evidence that doesn't support thier initial peak and hence the downgrade
@@KaiserStormTracking though, all other reanalysis made by other studies showed ~205 mph to Rita with some reaching 215. Rita was small system, located at low latitudes, with high background pressure (similar to Haiyan's background pressure) and travelling at high speed, which all supports 205 - 215 mph for 878 mbars
Haiyan was stronger than most of these storms, besides Goni and the 205 mph storm. It was also deadlier than all of the storms, killing 6,300 people.
Nah, Tip is still stronger than probably both especially Goni, I experienced these both but not much of yolanda because it was in visayas, however I did feel Goni it was kinda strong but not as strong as tip
@@niceuuuuuu Tip only had 191 mph winds. If you want to get technical Haiyan only had 194 mph winds, while Goni had 196 mph. The only difference between these storms is that Tip had a lower pressure. That’s 205 mph system is obviously stronger just not as low and pressure. It was more intense with the barometric pressure, but not as strong with the wind speeds.

@@niceuuuuuu just because a storm is big does not mean it will be strong. A lot of the times it’s actually the small and tight compact systems such as Andrew, Dorian, and Camille.

Got caught in a typhoon in 1969 while traveling to Okino erabu on an LCM-8 river boat from Naha, Okinawa. Never been so scared in my life.

I am suprised Super Typhoon Bilis is not on this list. I was in Taiwan when it hit. I was there on business, and it hit the last day I was scheduled before flying back to Texas. Quite a storm...
Not a very big storm for the west pacific basin because if it’s damage and death but Joan (1959) proofed to be way more stronger and destructive in Taiwan.

Those in the U.S. get scared when we get a strong hurricane. They are nothing compared to the beasts that exist in the pacific. I think the scariest part of these typhoons is that, unlike the atlantic hurricanes which at times tend to have very big eyes, the ones in typhoons seem to always be pretty small in comparison.

@@longhair5001 Look at the older storms in WPAC. There are storms that probably had stronger winds than Haiyan. June 75, Rita 78, Mike 90, Gay 92 and Angela 95 were pribably stronger than Haiyan. Officially, Nancy was the stringest storm at WPAC at 215 MPH followed by Violet, Ida, Sally and Haiyan. And a Tip had the lowest pressure followed by June, Forrest, Nora, Ida and Rita. Tip is also the largest storm recorded in history not only in WPAC but in the world also. Many storms had come close to the size of Tip but Haiyan's size never come close to Tip neither the pressure.

haiyan deserves top 1. It's true hpa is 850+. the 895 hpa is only an unsured estimated number.
850 is complete nonsense. 895 makes more sense. Haiyan is small, low latitude, moving fast, has high POCI, and has strong STR to the north. Tacloban's recorded pressure supports 895
Icyclone reported 960 mbars in Tacloban. Tacloban airport 955. Those valuees only support 895 - 900 mbars pressure. No evidence Haiyan weakened by 45 mbars before landfall
