This season was by far the most remarkable I’ve seen in my 4 years of storm coverage with Force Thirteen. Despite the damages and truly terrible storms, I’ve never been more proud to see the kindness of this community and empathy to help those in need, even complete strangers that you won’t ever meet, recover from these natural disasters. North America I know right? I totally thought that Laura would be a Cat 5, then Teddy, then Delta, then Eta (which maybe was), but 2020 decides to give us a Greek Stage 10 Cat 5 in NOVEMBER!?!??!
@@yusufnaqui713 I remember too think Laura, Teddy, and Delta would be Cs, but all three failed. I had mixed feelings from Eta because of the past 3 storms becoming a C5, even when there was a jump from 130- mph.

I will never forget this season. tracking this season was crazy. 30 named storms, 13 Hurricanes, and 6 Majors, that’s some crazy totals. Not to mention all the records broken by 2020, like earliest storm formation dates, one of the most RIing storms, Latest C5, etc.

I stayed in Lake Charles with my family and cats for Laura, we couldn't evacuate with the cats and we were there to hold down the fort. That was a huge storm. I got chills again watching the hurricane go from Cat 1 to Cat 4, great animation!
This season will be remembered for decades to come. So many record-breaking storms, and one of the worst for the US Gulf Coast and Central America. What an epic season...
Both the 2005 and 2020 hurricane seasons had their own records. 2005 was the second costliest and most active, and had a notorious storm. 2020 was most active, and 2/3 of its retired names were actually Greek letters.
Fun Fact: This year would’ve been the first year to end with a Category 5 Hurricane in the Atlantic basin if it wasn’t for the last minute change for Iota. Y’all happy now?

2020 Atlantic hurricane season summary The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season was the most active Atlantic hurricane season in terms of named storms. The season was hyperactive and costly. The season initially featured mostly weak storms, but that took a 180 in the end. In May, the first storm of the season formed north of the Bahamas, Arthur. It moved north and peaked before weakening and dissipating. Bertha formed off the east coast later that month, and almost immediately made landfall in the US. Cristobal formed from the remnants of Amanda in early June. June featured 2 tropical cyclones. Cristobal formed in the Gulf of Mexico before making landfall in Mexico. It soon exited Mexico via the northern Yucatan Peninsula and made landfall in Louisiana as a tropical storm. Dolly formed off the US east coast and passively went out to sea. July featured 6 tropical cyclones: Edouard, Fay, Gonzalo, Hanna, Isaias, and Tropical Depression 10. Edouard formed after a system moved off the US, and initially struggled to become a named system, but eventually did so and went out to sea after passing Bermuda. Fay formed off of the US east coast and made landfall in New Jersey and dissipated. Gonzalo became the first MDR tropical cyclone of the season, and eventually was forecasted to become a hurricane, but failed to do so. Hanna formed in the Gulf of Mexico, and became the first hurricane of the season. It made landfall in Texas as a high-end category 1 and dissipated, causing moderate-strong damage. Isaias formed from a tropical wave that left the western coast of Africa in the Caribbean. What became Isaias first struggled to become a tropical cyclone when it was designated as a potential tropical cyclone, but it eventually did so. Isaias hit the DC, and became the second category 1 of the season. It impacted the Bahamas and weakened to a tropical storm, it moved parallel to the Floridan east coast and re-strengthened into a category 1 hurricane before moved quickly up the east coast, causing severe damage. Tropical Depression 10 formed from a tropical wave that left Africa and became the only tropical cyclone of the season to not get a name. Josephine became another MDR system and did not amount to much while Kyle formed off the east coast and also did not amount to much. Tropical Depressions 13 and 14 formed in the MDR and WCAR, and became Laura and Marco. Marco moved through the Yucatan Channel and briefly became a category 1 hurricane before dying out over the Gulf of Mexico, causing minor damage. Laura trekked through the Caribbean Islands and became the fourth hurricane of the season in the Gulf of Mexico. Laura rapidly intensified from a category 1 to 4 in the Gulf of Mexico, and made a devastating landfall in Louisiana. The storm rapidly weakened and dissipated over the US. Tropical Depression 15 formed and became a tropical storm the next month. Nana formed in the Caribbean after being PTC 16 for about 3 hours. It made landfall in Central America as a category 1 hurricane. Omar formed from Tropical Depression 15 off the east coast and defied forecasts before finally dissipating. Paulette and Rene formed in the MDR and Paulette managed to make it through strong wind shear. Rene formed far east and impacted Cape Verde before getting its name. A swarm of storms formed: Sally, Teddy, and Vicky. Paulette, Rene, Sally, Teddy, and Vicky were all active at once of September 14th, which was the peak of the season. Paulette became a hurricane. Rene was forecasted to become one, but failed to do so. Sally became a category 2 in the Gulf of Mexico and impacted some of the southern US states. Teddy became a powerful hurricane in the open Atlantic. Vicky was a brief tropical storm that exceeded some expectations. Teddy became a large category 4 and became extratropical and huge before hitting Canada. Wilfred formed in the eastern tropical Atlantic on September 18th, and storms Alpha and Beta formed, which caused the second time in history for the Atlantic to exhaust the main naming list. Alpha became the first tropical cyclone to make landfall in Portugal, although it was subtropical. Beta formed and slowly moved in the Gulf of Mexico. Wilfred became the weakest tropical storm. In October, the theme would change in how storms get. Gamma formed in the WCAR and impacted the Yucatan and dissipated, but it had abnormally deep convection. Delta formed in the WCAR, too, and became a category 4 hurricane before hitting the Yucatan. It moved into the GOM, and became a category 3, and made a damaging landfall in Louisiana. Epsilon formed from a system in the open Atlantic, and took many by surprise by strengthening into a 110 mph storm, and even further into a 115 mph storm and went out to see passively. Zeta formed in the Caribbean and hit Mexico as a hurricane. It moved into the Gulf of Mexico and became a category 2 before making landfall in the Gulf state(s). Eta formed in the Caribbean and explosively intensified into a category 4 hurricane, and peaked with winds of 150 mph before devastating Central America. It moved back into the Caribbean, hit Cuba, made a loop in the GOM, and briefly became a hurricane again before hitting Florida and later dissipated. Theta formed and caused the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season to become the most active in tropical storms before almost becoming a hurricane but eventually dissipated while not impacting anyone. Iota formed in the middle part of the month and rapidly intensified into a category 5 hurricane, the first of the season, and hit Central America. It eventually dissipated.

At this point, all but List One has had their time in the sun to shine in glory and terror all the same. This is how they have all done so by this point: 2016 (List 2): The year that heralded the extreme activity that was to come up to now, and the one that finally ended the 9-year drought of no Category 5 hurricanes in the Atlantic basin since Felix of 2007. 2017 (the legendary List 3): The year that crippled the United States and the Caribbean in numerous places, and took damage of tropical cyclones to an entire new level, globally, surpassing 2005 massively by means of damage, and ending the nearly 12-year drought of no major hurricane landfalls in the United States since Hurricane Wilma of 2005. It was also the first hyperactive season since 2010, the first one to exceed 200 ACE since 2005, and the first to exhibit multiple Category 5 hurricanes since 2007. 2018 (List 4): A season that seriously undermined conventional thought and defied typical El Niño conditions by producing an above-average season despite the EPAC having record-high activity, restarting the “erratic chain” (Leslie), and proving that it takes just one factor of a tropical cyclone, whether it be slow motion (Florence), excessive rainfall (also Florence), a rare path to landfall (Leslie), or extreme wind speeds (Michael) to enable for a tropical cyclone to leave its mark on history. 2019 (List 5): The season that once more proved that it takes just one single storm to make a season memorable for a long while afterwards. Sure, it defied forecasts that predicted a weak El Niño for the EPAC, it spawned a frankly very ugly Hurricane Barry, an almost instantaneous Imelda, and an unusually eastern forming Category 5 Hurricane Lorenzo, but by far, the absolutely catastrophic Hurricane Dorian was the storm that defined this season as the one that very nearly destroyed the Bahamas altogether, and flat out decimating the northern islands of the Bahamas with its 185 mph winds, stalling over the island chain for two straight days as a major hurricane, much less a Category 5 hurricane that is tied by landfall wind speed only with the 1935 Labor Day hurricane as the strongest in the Atlantic basin’s recorded history. 2020 (List 6’s sole hyperactive season): Never has the Atlantic basin ever seen a season such as this in recorded history. A season that, frankly, fit perfectly in within the year that it occurred. 31 tropical depressions (tied with 2005 for the highest total). 30 tropical storms (record high). 13 hurricanes (second highest, only beaten by 2005, which had 15 hurricanes). 6 (possibly 7) major hurricanes (second highest with a multitude of other seasons, including 2004 and 2017, only beaten by 2005, which had 7 major hurricanes). 12 United States landfalls. 5 Louisiana landfalls. A November Category 5 hurricane, and the latest-forming Category 5 in the Atlantic basin’s history. Seven names of this season currently meet the criteria for retirement: Isaias, Laura, Sally, Delta, Zeta, Eta, and Iota. All but Arthur, Bertha, and Dolly became the earliest forming storms by letter on record in the Atlantic basin. A season of records. A season of quantity over quality. A season of landfalls galore, from Colombia and Bermuda to Cape Verde and Portugal. A season of sheer hyperactivity and unpredictability. I was in the center of Hurricane Laura, it's eye missed me only by a few miles. Our town still has horrible damages, and it took a month to get the power back on after it made landfall. It is hard to describe with words what it was like, sitting there just outside the door, watching the sheer power of the wind. A tree fell within our fence, grazing my parents bedroom while they were asleep by a mere meter. The powerlines whipped like they were ready to snap from their poles. When Hurricane Delta had followed in Laura's footsteps not long after, the already weakened trees were pushed to their breaking point, finding many of them in our backyard uprooted, lying on their sides.

As a houstonian I remember I just kinda sat and watched that season go by in constant fear as we dodged bullet after bullet. And then to have to watch our neighbors to our east get trampled over and over again was heartbreaking
as someone from louisiana i am so glad it wasn’t anyone from houston. so many more people would’ve lost everything they love and cherish and have to be without a home for months. however i do wish my town was as popular due to the fact that they actually get help.. hurricane ida tore up new orleans this year and there were news people everywhere talking about how it was the worst storm in history to hit louisiana and then not even mentioning hurricane laura even though they’re tied. due to media coverage. new orleans got power in 9 days while my town who was hit by laura harder than any other (we got the eye wall) took over a month to simply restore power. it’s a year later now and i’m still homeless. my town is still in shambles with debris and tarps on roofs everywhere buildings are completely demolished still with 2nd stories of house being compellty gone. not really on topic this was more of just a rant. it’s infuriating to see my governor say “we dodged a bullet with laura. there wasn’t as much damage as we expected” hes the reason we still don’t have help repairing today he constantly over looks our town and told someone from our town to their face “i’m so glad lake charles is completely fine after laura you guys have a lot to be thankful for” and he’s ignoring all the small towns that were destroyed by ida aswell especially the ones that got it worse than new orleans. joe biden has been to our town and said nothing about the damages it’s honestly horrible
Formations of storms that affected my area. 1:52 - Tropical Storm Arthur - Almost nothing, light rain. 2:13 - Tropical Storm Bertha - Not much either, but harder rain. 3:47 - Tropical Storm Fay - A little wind. 4:45 - Hurricane Isaias - The storm's eyewall passed over my location as a C1, and destroyed one of my plants outside and brought heavy rain. 5:29 - Tropical Storm Kyle - Some rain from the low pressure system. 5:47 - Hurricane Laura - Some rain from the remnants. 6:21 - Tropical Storm Omar - A little wind. 6:53 - Hurricane Sally - A little wind from the remnants out to sea. 7:59 - Hurricane Delta - Some rain from the remnants. 8:55 - Hurricane Zeta - A little wind and heavy rain from the remnants, however it was moving so fast. 9:15 - Hurricane Eta - Nasty storms from this storm, it even shut down online school in our area. It would later peak at 115 mph. None of the hurricanes holds the notoriety of List 3's monsters. Certainly not to the likes of Harvey, Irma, Katrina, Maria, Rita, or Wilma. That being said, this year is quite a legendary year that Atlantic won't ever forget, just like List 3's monsters.
This season was by far the most remarkable I’ve seen in my 4 years of storm coverage with Force Thirteen. Despite the damages and truly terrible storms, I’ve never been more proud to see the kindness of this community and empathy to help those in need, even complete strangers that you won’t ever meet, recover from these natural disasters. I stayed in Lake Charles with my family and cats for Laura, we couldn't evacuate with the cats and we were there to hold down the fort. That was a huge storm. I got chills again watching the hurricane go from Cat 1 to Cat 4, great animation!

Both the 2005 and 2020 hurricane seasons had their own records. 2005 was the second costliest and most active, and had a notorious storm. 2020 was most active, and 2/3 of its retired names were actually Greek letters.

2020 Atlantic hurricane season summary
The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season was the most active Atlantic hurricane season in terms of named storms. The season was hyperactive and costly. The season initially featured mostly weak storms, but that took a 180 in the end.
In May, the first storm of the season formed north of the Bahamas, Arthur. It moved north and peaked before weakening and dissipating. Bertha formed off the east coast later that month, and almost immediately made landfall in the US. Cristobal formed from the remnants of Amanda in early June.
June featured 2 tropical cyclones. Cristobal formed in the Gulf of Mexico before making landfall in Mexico. It soon exited Mexico via the northern Yucatan Peninsula and made landfall in Louisiana as a tropical storm. Dolly formed off the US east coast and passively went out to sea.
July featured 6 tropical cyclones: Edouard, Fay, Gonzalo, Hanna, Isaias, and Tropical Depression 10. Edouard formed after a system moved off the US, and initially struggled to become a named system, but eventually did so and went out to sea after passing Bermuda. Fay formed off of the US east coast and made landfall in New Jersey and dissipated. Gonzalo became the first MDR tropical cyclone of the season, and eventually was forecasted to become a hurricane, but failed to do so. Hanna formed in the Gulf of Mexico, and became the first hurricane of the season. It made landfall in Texas as a high-end category 1 and dissipated, causing moderate-strong damage. Isaias formed from a tropical wave that left the western coast of Africa in the Caribbean. What became Isaias first struggled to become a tropical cyclone when it was designated as a potential tropical cyclone, but it eventually did so. Isaias hit the DC, and became the second category 1 of the season. It impacted the Bahamas and weakened to a tropical storm, it moved parallel to the Floridan east coast and re-strengthened into a category 1 hurricane before moved quickly up the east coast, causing severe damage. Tropical Depression 10 formed from a tropical wave that left Africa and became the only tropical cyclone of the season to not get a name.
Josephine became another MDR system and did not amount to much while Kyle formed off the east coast and also did not amount to much. Tropical Depressions 13 and 14 formed in the MDR and WCAR, and became Laura and Marco. Marco moved through the Yucatan Channel and briefly became a category 1 hurricane before dying out over the Gulf of Mexico, causing minor damage. Laura trekked through the Caribbean Islands and became the fourth hurricane of the season in the Gulf of Mexico. Laura rapidly intensified from a category 1 to 4 in the Gulf of Mexico, and made a devastating landfall in Louisiana. The storm rapidly weakened and dissipated over the US. Tropical Depression 15 formed and became a tropical storm the next month.
Nana formed in the Caribbean after being PTC 16 for about 3 hours. It made landfall in Central America as a category 1 hurricane. Omar formed from Tropical Depression 15 off the east coast and defied forecasts before finally dissipating. Paulette and Rene formed in the MDR and Paulette managed to make it through strong wind shear. Rene formed far east and impacted Cape Verde before getting its name. A swarm of storms formed: Sally, Teddy, and Vicky. Paulette, Rene, Sally, Teddy, and Vicky were all active at once of September 14th, which was the peak of the season. Paulette became a hurricane. Rene was forecasted to become one, but failed to do so. Sally became a category 2 in the Gulf of Mexico and impacted some of the southern US states. Teddy became a powerful hurricane in the open Atlantic. Vicky was a brief tropical storm that exceeded some expectations. Teddy became a large category 4 and became extratropical and huge before hitting Canada. Wilfred formed in the eastern tropical Atlantic on September 18th, and storms Alpha and Beta formed, which caused the second time in history for the Atlantic to exhaust the main naming list. Alpha became the first tropical cyclone to make landfall in Portugal, although it was subtropical. Beta formed and slowly moved in the Gulf of Mexico. Wilfred became the weakest tropical storm.
In October, the theme would change in how storms get. Gamma formed in the WCAR and impacted the Yucatan and dissipated, but it had abnormally deep convection. Delta formed in the WCAR, too, and became a category 4 hurricane before hitting the Yucatan. It moved into the GOM, and became a category 3, and made a damaging landfall in Louisiana. Epsilon formed from a system in the open Atlantic, and took many by surprise by strengthening into a 110 mph storm, and even further into a 115 mph storm and went out to see passively. Zeta formed in the Caribbean and hit Mexico as a hurricane. It moved into the Gulf of Mexico and became a category 2 before making landfall in the Gulf state(s).
Eta formed in the Caribbean and explosively intensified into a category 4 hurricane, and peaked with winds of 150 mph before devastating Central America. It moved back into the Caribbean, hit Cuba, made a loop in the GOM, and briefly became a hurricane again before hitting Florida and later dissipated. Theta formed and caused the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season to become the most active in tropical storms before almost becoming a hurricane but eventually dissipated while not impacting anyone. Iota formed in the middle part of the month and rapidly intensified into a category 5 hurricane, the first of the season, and hit Central America. It eventually dissipated.

At this point, all but List One has had their time in the sun to shine in glory and terror all the same. This is how they have all done so by this point:
2016 (List 2): The year that heralded the extreme activity that was to come up to now, and the one that finally ended the 9-year drought of no Category 5 hurricanes in the Atlantic basin since Felix of 2007.
2017 (the legendary List 3): The year that crippled the United States and the Caribbean in numerous places, and took damage of tropical cyclones to an entire new level, globally, surpassing 2005 massively by means of damage, and ending the nearly 12-year drought of no major hurricane landfalls in the United States since Hurricane Wilma of 2005. It was also the first hyperactive season since 2010, the first one to exceed 200 ACE since 2005, and the first to exhibit multiple Category 5 hurricanes since 2007.
2018 (List 4): A season that seriously undermined conventional thought and defied typical El Niño conditions by producing an above-average season despite the EPAC having record-high activity, restarting the “erratic chain” (Leslie), and proving that it takes just one factor of a tropical cyclone, whether it be slow motion (Florence), excessive rainfall (also Florence), a rare path to landfall (Leslie), or extreme wind speeds (Michael) to enable for a tropical cyclone to leave its mark on history.
2019 (List 5): The season that once more proved that it takes just one single storm to make a season memorable for a long while afterwards. Sure, it defied forecasts that predicted a weak El Niño for the EPAC, it spawned a frankly very ugly Hurricane Barry, an almost instantaneous Imelda, and an unusually eastern forming Category 5 Hurricane Lorenzo, but by far, the absolutely catastrophic Hurricane Dorian was the storm that defined this season as the one that very nearly destroyed the Bahamas altogether, and flat out decimating the northern islands of the Bahamas with its 185 mph winds, stalling over the island chain for two straight days as a major hurricane, much less a Category 5 hurricane that is tied by landfall wind speed only with the 1935 Labor Day hurricane as the strongest in the Atlantic basin’s recorded history.
2020 (List 6’s sole hyperactive season): Never has the Atlantic basin ever seen a season such as this in recorded history. A season that, frankly, fit perfectly in within the year that it occurred. 31 tropical depressions (tied with 2005 for the highest total). 30 tropical storms (record high). 13 hurricanes (second highest, only beaten by 2005, which had 15 hurricanes). 6 (possibly 7) major hurricanes (second highest with a multitude of other seasons, including 2004 and 2017, only beaten by 2005, which had 7 major hurricanes). 12 United States landfalls. 5 Louisiana landfalls. A November Category 5 hurricane, and the latest-forming Category 5 in the Atlantic basin’s history. Seven names of this season currently meet the criteria for retirement: Isaias, Laura, Sally, Delta, Zeta, Eta, and Iota. All but Arthur, Bertha, and Dolly became the earliest forming storms by letter on record in the Atlantic basin. A season of records. A season of quantity over quality. A season of landfalls galore, from Colombia and Bermuda to Cape Verde and Portugal. A season of sheer hyperactivity and unpredictability. A season that taught us that records can be broken much sooner that we could hope for. A season that shall, indeed, be among the eternal legends of the tropical North Atlantic basin. I was in the center of Hurricane Laura, it's eye missed me only by a few miles. Our town still has horrible damages, and it took a month to get the power back on after it made landfall.
It is hard to describe with words what it was like, sitting there just outside the door, watching the sheer power of the wind.
A tree fell within our fence, grazing my parents bedroom while they were asleep by a mere meter.
The powerlines whipped like they were ready to snap from their poles.
When Hurricane Delta had followed in Laura's footsteps not long after, the already weakened trees were pushed to their breaking point, finding many of them in our backyard uprooted, lying on their sides.
Since 2015 i was only hit by hurricane Kay as a tropical storm

As a houstonian I remember I just kinda sat and watched that season go by in constant fear as we dodged bullet after bullet. And then to have to watch our neighbors to our east get trampled over and over again was heartbreaking
as someone from louisiana i am so glad it wasn’t anyone from houston. so many more people would’ve lost everything they love and cherish and have to be without a home for months. however i do wish my town was as popular due to the fact that they actually get help.. hurricane ida tore up new orleans this year and there were news people everywhere talking about how it was the worst storm in history to hit louisiana and then not even mentioning hurricane laura even though they’re tied. due to media coverage. new orleans got power in 9 days while my town who was hit by laura harder than any other (we got the eye wall) took over a month to simply restore power. it’s a year later now and i’m still homeless. my town is still in shambles with debris and tarps on roofs everywhere buildings are completely demolished still with 2nd stories of house being compellty gone. not really on topic this was more of just a rant. it’s infuriating to see my governor say “we dodged a bullet with laura. there wasn’t as much damage as we expected” hes the reason we still don’t have help repairing today he constantly over looks our town and told someone from our town to their face “i’m so glad lake charles is completely fine after laura you guys have a lot to be thankful for” and he’s ignoring all the small towns that were destroyed by ida aswell especially the ones that got it worse than new orleans. joe biden has been to our town and said nothing about the damages it’s honestly horrible

September 14th was the true peak of the season.
@Lillie I meant when it rapidly intensified to 110 mph, it took me by surprise. I wasn't too surprised when it peaked at 115 mph.

I'm just glad that this season wasn't as damaging or deadly as 2005 and 2017.
None of the hurricanes holds the notoriety of List 3's monsters. Certainly not to the likes of Harvey, Irma, Katrina, Maria, Rita, or Wilma. That being said, this year is quite a legendary year that Atlantic won't ever forget, just like List 3's monsters.
