I have been teaching this for over a decade. I KNOW that it works!!!! Absolutely guaranteed improvement. I LOVE Your Piano Bestie's channel, honey!!! We are definitely piano teacher kindred spirits.
I have to say, your tips are probably the most practical I've encountered on TH-cam. Most videos are very generic and barely applicable to to anyone. your videos are very focused on specific issues intermediate and even advanced players encounter (which are hard to even put into words to try and search) and your suggested strategies to address these issues are very applicable. Thank you for your work 😊
Have started writing all over my music recently because of your videos. Has been super helpful remembering fingering or shifting hand positions. Love the tips!
My excellent teacher, Gregory O'Donnell, called these "fractures" -- broken spots. So, in my own teaching I tell my students "It is not 'Practice Makes Perfect', it's "Perfect Practice Makes Easy'". You use "whole learning" and "part learning", back and forth, until the whole piece is equally easy to play. You fit the fracture into larger and larger contexts after you have mastered the small fracture.
Recording yourself playing is simultaneously the most effective and my least favorite antidote to having any kind of impression that you don't have much to work on. It's an instant hard slap in the face reality check
My issue is, when I record myself I make mistakes I normally don't make. Same as when I play for others, I suddenly make mistakes I normally never make😢
a tip that actually applies for other musicians too, not just pianists!

If anyone is wondering, this piece is the 23rd Piano Sonata of Beethoven, "Appasionata" in F minor.

I switched from tenor sax to Bari! I’m all alone now but this seems like it would help a lot!
My issue is, when I record myself I make mistakes I normally don't make.

i think its because ur not that good at the piece yet cause ur not practicing properly
@R3m_88 thats an interesting assumption😅
@ i mean y else would u be inconsistent
You can’t be “too harsh” at the end of the Appassionata! Tbh I want people to feel like they’ve been slapped in the face by the end 😂
what app do you use to write notes on the sheet music?
Yes please!! I have an iPad would like to know which app she uses to store the sheet music and write on it!
Is it Appassionata?
What is the app you’re using in your iPad to mark the score sheet?
Not sure what she's using, but my guess would be ForScore - it's great.
