Thanks man ! I changed a starter....truck ran fine when everything was warm in the day, I left the truck over night and the metal cooled down (-10 canada) and when I started my truck it sounded like the crank was knocking...lol..found out after all it was just the fly wheel cover / flex plate hitting my fly wheel
Thank you my friend for making this video. I have a 1993 Chevy S 10 pick up truck that did the same exact thing. I change the starter and got a horrible knocking noise out of the engine. I will take this cover off right away. Thanks again.
Gracias por el video. Mi papá tiene una chevy pickup cheyenne k1500 Motor Vortec 4.3 litros V6 con un sonido fuerte que proviene de la volanta. Ya tengo una idea de como trabajar el problema
THIS IS NOT THE ONLY SOLUTION! Also ensure that your flywheel bolts are tight and ensure your flywheel has no visible cracks in it. The ticking could be a precursor to more serious issues.
My starter failed on my 2003 Chevy 2500HD 6.0L today in -18 degree weather. I just replaced the starter and started up the engine and I have the exact same noise. I thought the bendix is permanently stuck in the flywheel, so I shut it off right away. I will pull that shield and check tomorrow.
I ended pulling the new starter and installed the old one and then it worked fine. Put the new starter back on and works good now. Something must not have been lined up or 2 wires maybe touching.
I know what that is.Earl here with 50 years experience.. Remove the starter because your bendix starter gear is not releasing after you start your truck. Problem is your starter BENDIX
Known problem for these trucks an suburbans so it's not the lifters or starter it's the flywheel save your money an replace it first but like me I do both just because...ac delco parts all day
So, on average, is it usually that the flywheel itself should be replaced... or just the cover? My 96 Tahoe is doing the same thing, but not nearly as loud... Only when I accelerate. Two mechanics I went to, both said that they know the sound is definitely coming from that area, but couldn't pinpoint the location. They both told that there would need to remove my exhaust in order to get drop the pan and get to the sound. The problem is, the bolts are rusted on and they say that can't remove them without possibly breaking the manifold, which would cost me more money for them to repair that if it happens. I just wanna be sure of whether I should get a flywheel or just a new cover?
@@RescueMoversDFW Ok. Thank you. Well, I know that it surely seems like that's the problem... I just don't know why it didn't cross either mechanic's mind to look at it. One of them even specifically told me that when they start it up without the cover on, it doesn't make a sound, but once they put it on the sound returns. It even seems a little louder now, since they removed it and replaced it.
@@RescueMoversDFW Is this warped cover due to excessive heat, like normal wear and tear? I'm in Florida, by the way... so it definitely has its hot days. My rotors and wheel hubs always end up warped somehow.
having the same problem on my 2013 silverado, did it end up being the starter? bought my truck from a dealership and it happened the next day, family mech said starter?
btw, im working on a 83 c10 scottdale square body, just swapped the rochester quad to edelbrock 1406, now i just got to tune it in better running ritch, i think i figured out wich vacuum connections can go. later bro....
.....having noice in that area a bit......no where NEAR that bad.....but when I put this engine in my 98 I forgot some thing.....forgot the damn threadlocker blue on flexplate bolts.... Torqued them to spec and forgot the damn threadlocker blue. Smh. About to look into it but I figure bolts are backing out and thats my issue... Hope they didn't get loose enough to crack the flex plate....have an extra but shit man...... I don't wanna change that crap....... DEFINITELY not running it till I get it right though thats for sure....this engine is fresh and I don't exactly want to rebuild it again.
That cover didn't bend by itself. It may have been done on purpose to make you go back to the mechanic and pay more money. Or it got bent accidentally while installing the new starter. But i don't see how its possible to bend that by accident. 🤔🤨😏
Why are so many of you still diagnosing this problem ??? This video is SHOWING YOU THE SOLUTION FOR A LOUD NOISE CAUSED BY A BENT FLYWHEEL DUST COVER !!!
Daniel Rescue Movers I did I took the starter off and tried it on and it did but I put it back and engine won’t go my truck made the same noise but now it won’t go at all
@@bigpoppardz4663 I know this is a year ago but I hope this helps. Mine has the same issue recently, damn thing wouldn't even start anymore until I had the idea that it was the flywheel/flexplate what ever the big flat gear is called that the starter engages with. I put my truck in drive w/out cranking the engine then rolled it a little bit by pushing to rotate the flywheel. Turned my truck on and it cranked with some ugly noise but turned on and was able to drive it. Look into that flywheel I know ima bout to have to.

I love the part where you say, " maybe we don't put the plate back on, we not gonna worry about these minor details " lmao

Nice smooth engagement after you fixed the bent plate! All starters should sound like that!
yep thanks
About to try straight out the plate see if it works

My wife made a noise like that, so I divorced her!

Is this truck still running good today with no issues? Just replaced my starter on the same vehicle and it makes this exact noise.

had the same noise in my truck, 93 k1500, but it didnt move when put in drive. did this truck move in drive?

You need to inspect your flywheel and torque convertor for the bolts being broken or cracked

Just remove dust cover on transmission and inspect the flywheel from there

hay que checar de donde viene el ruido y quitar partes pa checar

7min of video just to show us the noise of the car. Mostly of us probably watch it the first min.
