I tow with my 2012 Silverado 2WD ext cab with the old timer cast iron 4.3 and it does ok. Just remember back in the day one ton trucks had less powerful six cylinder motors.
I bought. 2018 3.3 with the 6 speed auto 4x4 and it’s been a great truck. 290 hp and plenty of torque for what I do. No need to shy away from this motor unless you are doing extreme hauling.
2.7 great motor but it has a rubber... drive belt? I believe? That is inside of the motor and it's an engine out job to replace it. Service interval on it is 150k miles but Im told they last longer. Apart from that I hear great things
Finally found a low mileage 2020 with 3.3 and 6 speed with 3.73 axle. Towed about 5,000 lbs, it does fine. It's revving up to 3-5K RPMs from a start, but that doesn't sound like the engine is working too hard. I think for almost everybody looking at half-tons, the 3.3 is a great choice if you value long-term reliability. If I was hauling 5K + every week or in the mountains, I'd probably go with the 5.0. I'm getting about 19-20 MPG when not towing.
My old inherited 2001 F150 with its 4.2L v6 is still running great. I wish it was 4x4, but my father didnt like 4x4 vehicles. Always said it was just something else to break.😂
I also have a 2019 f150 rcsb with the 3.3 and 4x4, I have the 3.55 ratio rear end, I have pulled my 6 x12 utility trailer in the North Carolina mountains, did surprisingly well, again, it won't win any races, but all and all did what I needed it to
Thank you for the video. The 2022 F-150 with 10 speed is rated to tow up to 9,100 lbs with 3:73 rear. The engine sounds tight and it’s a great work truck. Tow 5,000 lbs and get 23 mpg is amazing. I know not towing mpg but a full sized truck getting 23 mpg and still be able to tow, amazing. Great truck, peace
@@strayedarticle2838 This may be a late reply, but I just saw this today. I have a 2014 with the 3.7 and 3.73 rear and I have towed a Casita camper and some gear in the bed all the time so about 3000+ lbs. with no problem, just make sure to use tow haul to give the motor a break and use higher RPMs. I towed without it for a few years but in the summer, I noticed that the temperature gauge read lower in the summer with tow haul engaged. The truck pulled just fine without it, but I thought being nice to it was a good thing. I was looking at a 5.0 but this truck was on the lot, and I thought I would take a chance. I'm glad I did. By all accounts the 3.3 is just as good as the 3.7 but I don't know if the 10 speed is as good as the 6 speed. I think you'll be good, though.
@@richardhouvener6423 Hey thanks man. That gives me more confidence about pulling my camper. I've had several successful trips and keep getting good feedback from all the fellow f150 drivers out there✌
Use higher octan fuel and you'll see an improvement believe it or not. The 3.3 has a 12:1 compression ratio and a higher octan fuel will get the full potential outta it. Even though its did awesome in the vid. The sound of the engine while going up hill in 1st kinda reminds me of an old 2 stroke Detroit but not near as loud. But still a beautiful sound none the less.
Exactly what I'm after. Love the regular cab short boxes. If I can't get a 3.3, then I'll try for the 5.0. I'm avoiding the potential problems with the Ecoboost and others with turbos. That gas mileage is great btw.

But out of all the trucks I have owned before that we’re old school V8 ,s. This engine /trans combo beats them . I would not however be comfortable towing that much in the mountains. If you don’t like to here a engine rev you probably don’t want a NA V6 . But it sounds nice to my ear to hear it working up the rpm range , shifting at 5 grand is pretty normal and very composed . Push it empty getting on the interstate letting Second gear wind out to shift at 7,000 rpm is music to my ears.
Same here. Sold my'18 2.7 Ecoboost cuz it felt like a tuning gimmick, no power at higher rpms and turbo delay. Absolutely love my new-to-me '14 with the 3.7 and 3:73's and the 6r80. The gear ratios and trans tuning are spot on. It loves to take it to high rpm and its honestly fast up there from just pushing the peddle, not clicking thru 5 drive modes to Sport cuz the turbo isnt tuned for high rpm power. Problem is not all the 3.7 had the towing package 3:73 diffs. It feels just as fast as the twin turbo every where except holeshot. It tows exactly the same as my 2.7 getting 16mpg pulling my 16ft boat but the 6 speed isnt shifting all the time like the 10 speed.

I looked at a 2018 v6 same bed length. Manual windows. Didn't get what they were smoking by putting the window rollers where the cushion is halfway blocking them. Also some were mentioning in the forums crap about the starter location. Or getting to the bolts. Does it have a metal oil pan?
I wonder if it could pull a 28ft camper trailer which weighs 7000 lb and has a big wind surface. Probably better to have the 5.0 coyote since it probably has a more heavy duty transmission.
