semporna (the town itself) is safe, and the islands are fine. If you go there you will find lots of local tourists and east asian tourists. Stay in the area where there are lots of visitors and don't stay in the outermost islands/resorts close to the border. Islands on borneo's east like Mataking and Lankayan are totally safe and outside the troubles reported.

Thank you for you comment! I'm sure that the area it's safe and we are gutted to not have visited it! We sticked around Sandakan but it was amazing! Will definitely come back to visit the rest of Borneo!

Yes there is a few kidnapping cases by abu sayyaf in semporna. But it's not often. Make sure before u go there it's better to go to police station and mention them where ur destination. Sipadan is beautiful island. Hope u have a safe trip.

But compare to KK our city is not that big but if u r a nature enthusiast, theen Sandakan is a MUST, we have lots of natural attraction like Orang Utan, Proboscis Monkey, Sun Bear and many more

Dear Lessilu, Good to know that you also like Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. For your info, Sabah is Malaysia's Natural Wonders. You can find a lot of natural centres and parks here in Sabah. Beside the Sepilok, Tenom Botanical Garden (which is the 3rd largest in the world ), Danum Valley in Lahad Datu and Maliau Basin in Interior Tawau (both with the oldest rainforest and even older than Amazon) Kinabalu Park in Kundasang is the most famous to place to explore.. With cold weather and beautiful flora and fauna, especially the Mount Kinabalu (The highest mountain in Southeast Asia), it become a 'must visit' place in Sabah. It is SAFE TO VISIT SABAH.. And do come to Sabah again.. Feels the different of our natural wonder.. Peace ✌

I am residing here in Sandakan and it is quite safe I would say. The reason why I love Borneo Malaysia is simply because we are more liberal compared to Peninsular Malaysia (very liberal in some stuffs). But anyway, I hope you enjoyed your stay. Come back soon honey. And tell your husband that he is actually extremely good looking, for a man tho. Don't take it seriously anyway hahaha XD

Overall Sabah is safe . Yeah there is some cases about kidnapping by Abu Sayaff (the Philippines terrorist) but its rarely . Just do not go to an island that close to the border . The mainland and other island is safe 😃
