semporna (the town itself) is safe, and the islands are fine. If you go there you will find lots of local tourists and east asian tourists. Stay in the area where there are lots of visitors and don't stay in the outermost islands/resorts close to the border. Islands on borneo's east like Mataking and Lankayan are totally safe and outside the troubles reported.

Beside the Sepilok, Tenom Botanical Garden (which is the 3rd largest in the world ), Danum Valley in Lahad Datu and Maliau Basin in Interior Tawau (both with the oldest rainforest and even older than Amazon) Kinabalu Park in Kundasang is the most famous to place to explore.. With cold weather and beautiful flora and fauna, especially the Mount Kinabalu (The highest mountain in Southeast Asia), it become a 'must visit' place in Sabah. It is SAFE TO VISIT SABAH.. And do come to Sabah again.. Feels the different of our natural wonder.. Peace ✌

The reason why I love Borneo Malaysia is simply because we are more liberal compared to Peninsular Malaysia (very liberal in some stuffs). But anyway, I hope you enjoyed your stay. Sabah mainland itself is very safe but I wouldn't recommend the outer islands around it although theyre really beautiful :(
