I'm from peninsular Malaysia and been auditor for many companies in Malaysia from Sandakan, Miri, Kuching, JB, KK Penang to Langkawi since 2001. for this 23 years long, I've experienced all the vibes and locations. basically almost same all over places in Malaysia. but each places may have their own speciality of cuisine and dialects. that's the only different.

The thing is... both Sabah & Sarawak cuisine have milder profile which contain a lot of local plant and herbs as their ingredients and aren't available in the peninsula Malaysia. The assumption that there isn't any diversity in terms of food is that because chinese food dominates. If one were to look harder, you'll find stalls and kopitiams with traditional indigenous food! If you're in Kuching, there are a few places to get indigenous food like Jak Ma'an, Busang Jelini Long Panai, Awah Cafe (a bit further in the city), Rumah Asap (smokehouse where you can find delicious grilled pork)... Just because you can't find many Indian restaurants in there doesn't mean we don't have diversity in our cuisine.
The whole of West & East Malaysia are now very safe. Sea Patrol bordering Sabah and Philipines has been more frequent as a naval based (ESSCOM) has been established in Sabah since the Filipino guerilla invasion of Sabah in 2016.🫡 Worst case crime happened in Malaysia is in KL as too many foreign workers (both legal & illegal) resides there. Eventhough KL is ranked as among the safest capital city in the world.
That's not quite true. There's large swaths of Malaysia which is dangerous. The jungles east of the titiwangsa mountain range still have man eating tigers. And just last week, a man was attacked by a crocodile in Kelantan. But the cities, towns and villagers are relatively safe though.
Yup it's not true at all. The Philippines naval been secured their own territory against pirates very well while malaysia let those pirates into their territory to create media & hate speech about neighbouring countries like Philippines & Indonesia. I recommend to see uranghutan in Kalimantan Indonesian's territory because they take a good care wildlife there compare to malaysia borneo. I would say Philippines are more safe than malaysia. Malaysia has a lot complicated & complex turmoil policies. The only good thing about malaysia is the food that's all.

The inference of muddy rivers to deforestation is simply misleading. I live in the peninsula and there are two huge rivers passing by my town, and I have seen them muddy all the while since my childhood days to my senior citizen age. There is absolutely no deforestation in the area.

In Malaysia, the water table is generally high, meaning the water is not very deep from the land surface. In my town during the rainy season, when a burial plot is dug about 2 feet you already see water. To dig six feet becomes difficult. Coffins will be floating and have to be drownded by placing the heavy clay soil that was dug out. FYI. clay soil is the heaviest form of soil. Clay soil that is commonly found in Malaysia tends to muddy the streams and rivers after a torrential downpour. Most rivers in Malaysia have muddy colour by nature.
Yep I'm am environmental and chemical masters. Muddy water not equal to deforestation. In the case of Kinabatangan river which I pass monthly cause I live in in the area, ti has been always like that. It's the characteristic of the river which is more muddy.
I went to the islands in Semporna last July 2023, it was safe & sound. A family from Germany stayed 3 days & 2 nites in the chalets on an island off Semporna town & they enjoyed themselves there. If you listen too much from the hoax news, you'll missed the chance to experience the fantastic experience of snorkelling watching the sea creatures yrself as you dive.xx
I'm from Penampang. Its what you may call "suburb" area of Kota Kinabalu. Yes Penampang is the heart of Cultural fusion of all 42 tribes in Sabah. Penampang is dominantly Kadazan and Christian. The famous "Sinalau Bakas" (Smoked WIld Boar" is here and other meat related cuisine not just pork. I guessed you missed this part since a lot of negative "hear-say" comes from Peninsular towards "Sabah". In all honesty, Peninsular? Malayan folks tends to "bad-mouth" Sabah. Malaysia is actually a Federation and I'm sure you knew this that it was formed by Malaya, Singapore, Sabah & Sarawak ( 4 country). The East Malaysian "is not particularly fond of West Malaysian" - different mentality, lifestyles and culturally different. You are correct to say the East side of Sabah is now particularly safer after the "Invasion of Lahad Datu" (You may google that bit). I do have a close friend who worked in Mabul Island and she can confirm the situation (her husband is Scottish). Here is a bucket list of you plan for your next trip here. Long houses - Kudat, aka The TIp of Borneo, sandy beaches, cleaner and much, much safer than any other place in Sabah. Peaceful and you can absolutely meditate if you want. Kudat has one of the best beaches, clean and awesome sunset views. SIPITANG - 2.30hrs drive if you fancy local (NON GMO and absolutely 100% organic tropical fruits like Durian, Rambutan, Langsat, Cempedak, Jackfruit and many others). Nearer the KK area - there are KOKOL Resort at Manggatal. In Penampang if you fancy the sweat, funky smells and want to see a lot of Kadazan, Dusun folks in one place, visit Tamu Donggongon from Wednesday to Saturday at DOnggongon CIty, PEnampang. Additionally you can visit Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) to visit mock traditional houses of Native Tribes of Sabah. All Eastern Sabah has the cheapest Seafood, but find yourself a good guide or the vendors will suck you up dry. Since you said you are vegetarian, head to Kundasang and find some highlands or mountain veggies - you can visit Kundasang Park, or climb Mt Kinabalu. FYI, I am Kadazan. Mt Kinabalu is sacred to our people. When climbing do not use swear words, mock or insults is a No-No. be respectful, do not throw trash on the mountain. Whether you are superstitious or not; it is not the firs time the mountain has "disappear" folks from the trail. Singaporean and Taiwanese has experience this before. Many. I worked with TOuchdown Holiday UK before its operation permit was revoked in KK. So I have experience handling European tourist, I'm leaving a comment to show my support on your video. You should have gone diving at Mantanani Islamd (off Kota Belud) where you can see dugong (misyaken for mermaids by sailors of old). And if you’re lucky, even whale sharks. Mamutik amd Manuhan are nive, too
there are no more dugong's bro,and diver's especially experience diver shouldn't go there to dive,not much to offer , tarp diving is good tho. Highly recommed there.
The 9th lie....sabah n sarawak also differs...though both are in borneo...fyi i dont know about sabah but in sarawak, our rivers are all muddy with or without the alledge deforestation. Stay away from palm oil is mainly an economic war by the other vege oil producers but the again do a holistic research about it. Include the socio economic importance too apart from just environmental. Anyway, make a trip to sarawak when you have the opportunity..
Hey I would love to visit Sarawak too! Yeah it's important to research all aspects I agree with that. I did find it sad to see the loss of orangutan habitat. But I understand that's easy for me to say - in the UK we sadly already destroyed most of our natural habitat a long time ago and I do understand it's often what happens with modern development.

We are marginalized by the colonial Malaya for decades! Our development are mostly stalled especially in railway, road, electricity, water supply, school and etc compared to the Malaya. Sabah and Sarawak are marginalized since we formed 'Malaysia'.

If you want to see the Orang Utan in the wild pls go to Delok at Batang Ai which is located in the Lubok Antu District, in the Sri Aman Division of Sarawak.

Pretty much missing out on a huge part of Malaysian Borneo if you haven't visited Sabah's 'sibling', Sarawak. While there are less resorts, there are many opportunities to authentically experience local culture such as staying in modern or traditional longhouses, or experiencing local cuisine straight from their kitchens. There's also the Cultural Village in Kuching, the Cultural Museum and the Rainforest Music Festival which attract thousands of tourists every year. It's also safe to roam around, the only securiy issue you'll face are with crocodiles 🐊

Borneans have unique delicacies that can seem exotic to West Malaysians, especially when it comes to halal and non-halal dishes like Kolo Mee, which taste different depending on how they’re prepared. Spice use also varies between regions. East Malaysians often find Peninsular food too spiced, while Peninsular Malaysians may find Sabah or Sarawak food too mild. Personally, I can eat large portions back home & stay slim (physique), but the higher sugar and fat content in the peninsula makes a noticeable difference even for 1 week. 😂 Borneans, especially those from rural areas, have distinct taste buds and often find city food overly sweet or salty. Even vegetarians can enjoy Borneo’s variety of exotic fruits, plants, and mushrooms.

Did you also check out Sarawak state, also another Malaysian state on Borneo? It only takes 20 mins drive from the Kuching airport to get to the Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre where Orang Utans are being rehabilitate.
For some sighseeing Orang utans, you may want to walk through the jungle going to Gomantong Cave. There's a great chances of you seeing few orang utans there/proboscis monkey. Else, you might want to travel (Usually tourist will not travel to this area) to area of Beluran, and the Paitan or Sugut river. chances are great there too. Some of the not known island on East Sabah also have some wildlife there.
Well I lived in area whereas the Orangutan actually lived but not entirely present since Orangutan is a shy animal. Also for Bornean's Orangutan it is called Pongo Pygmaeus but yeah it is divided by 3 sub species ( Sabah's State it is Pongo Pygmaeus Morio).

In Sandakan,we have the Orang Utan Rehabilitation center. And a few special awesome parks to visit,like the Crocodile Farm. But,for the safety,I mean wherever you go.Just be careful. In Sabah, ppl can just snatch your wallet from your hand😅. Or worse,they cut your bagpack without you realise it. So never ever put valuable item like HP, wallet on the table and make sure you carry your bagpack at your front side.
Literally, most of the people you encounter in Sabah especially in Kota Kinabalu, Kudat, Sandakan, Tawau and other towns on the east coast are not the original sons of the soil. They are Illegal Immigrants from Southern Filipins and Indonesia . Sabah is not as safe as before these Immigrants came.

We,the people of Sarawak and Borneo are the safest place in the whole of Malaysia The federation of Malaysia is made up of three countries. 1. Malaya or West Malaysia made of small states like Perlis, Kedah,Malacca,Perak, Johore, Penang. . . 2. North Borneo or Sabah 3. Sarawak which is the size of West Malaysia Sarawak has the majority of Christian and NO official in Sarawak under the 18 points plan MA63. We share same table with Muslims and non muslims in Sarawak. Multi racial marriage is the norm. Please don't be mislead by those crooks . You can see orang utan,feed them and is only 12 miles from City centre. We love Sarawak and English is widely spoken too. Other languages spoken are Chinese, Bahasa Bangku Malaysia,local Malay, IBAN,Bidayuh, Lun Bawang,etc,etc. The only place where Church and mosque are built side by side,one in Miri and one in Kuching,it's just unique and Kuching is a clean city Puji Tuhan👍👍😘😘 Praise God👍👍😘❤️

Hey, fully understand and respect your opinion! I spoke to lots of people in Borneo, many who do want to see an increase in sustainable, mindful tourism (which is what I promote). I always encourage people to visit eco-friendly resorts, clean up beaches and oceans, support conservation programmes etc and do believe that by doing this travel can be a force for good. People will always talk about destinations and share travel stories, we've been doing so since the beginning of time :)
If diving is your thing, check out South Sulawesi, Indonesia... Also, Indonesians usually don't use the name "Borneo", they refer to their part of the Island, and even sometimes the whole island, as Kalimantan.
whats the real need of seeing orangutans in the wild, to start with 😅? it requires waiting about in jungles with pesky mosquitos leeches, for like 5 minutes sightings ? the conservations, with built watching platforms, and with 99% assured sightings (?) are just perfect tradeoff
Hard to put into words but there's something especially magical I think, especially as there aren't so many of them. Personally I always will wait around to see one but each to their own :)

And I was staying in different areas. Even myself can't see orang utan daily. So it seems that you guys get a lot of misunderstanding about our country but I do appreciate you visiting the Borneo Islands,and I would have to say thank you 🙏. maybe next time you consider coming again but better in may, there is a traditional festival activity here in north Borneo. The feeling of seeing wild orang utan is very different , their eyes are " alive and happy",seeing them enjoying wild fruit , playing on trees, you can feel the happy atmosphere. zoo orang utan eyes has a dead and bored look. And the thrill of sighting a wild one is priceless. Btw , in a unbroken ecosystem , there won't be any mosquitos , I went to Danum valley , primary rainforest zero mosquitos.
Yes Danum Velly, the northern ulu segama urangutan habitats (NUS)are good area to spot urangutan in the wild. However not sure if the NUS is open for public visitation as infras for such purpose were not developed.

Borneo food is very good, there are vegetables that one can only eat in Borneo and certain seafood too.

If you listen too much from the hoax news, you'll missed the chance to experience the fantastic experience of snorkelling watching the sea creatures yrself as you dive.xx
I'm from Penampang. Its what you may call "suburb" area of Kota Kinabalu. Yes Penampang is the heart of Cultural fusion of all 42 tribes in Sabah. Penampang is dominantly Kadazan and Christian. The famous "Sinalau Bakas" (Smoked WIld Boar" is here and other meat related cuisine not just pork. I guessed you missed this part since a lot of negative "hear-say" comes from Peninsular towards "Sabah". In all honesty, Peninsular? Malayan folks tends to "bad-mouth" Sabah. Malaysia is actually a Federation and I'm sure you knew this that it was formed by Malaya, Singapore, Sabah & Sarawak ( 4 country). The East Malaysian "is not particularly fond of West Malaysian" - different mentality, lifestyles and culturally different.
You are correct to say the East side of Sabah is now particularly safer after the "Invasion of Lahad Datu" (You may google that bit). I do have a close friend who worked in Mabul Island and she can confirm the situation (her husband is Scottish).
Here is a bucket list of you plan for your next trip here. Long houses - Kudat, aka The TIp of Borneo, sandy beaches, cleaner and much, much safer than any other place in Sabah. Peaceful and you can absolutely meditate if you want. Kudat has one of the best beaches, clean and awesome sunset views. SIPITANG - 2.30hrs drive if you fancy local (NON GMO and absolutely 100% organic tropical fruits like Durian, Rambutan, Langsat, Cempedak, Jackfruit and many others). Nearer the KK area - there are KOKOL Resort at Manggatal. In Penampang if you fancy the sweat, funky smells and want to see a lot of Kadazan, Dusun folks in one place, visit Tamu Donggongon from Wednesday to Saturday at DOnggongon CIty, PEnampang. Additionally you can visit Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) to visit mock traditional houses of Native Tribes of Sabah.
All Eastern Sabah has the cheapest Seafood, but find yourself a good guide or the vendors will suck you up dry. Since you said you are vegetarian, head to Kundasang and find some highlands or mountain veggies - you can visit Kundasang Park, or climb Mt Kinabalu. FYI, I am Kadazan. Mt Kinabalu is sacred to our people. When climbing do not use swear words, mock or insults is a No-No. be respectful, do not throw trash on the mountain. Whether you are superstitious or not; it is not the firs time the mountain has "disappear" folks from the trail. Singaporean and Taiwanese has experience this before. Many.

You should have gone diving at Mantanani Islamd (off Kota Belud) where you can see dugong (misyaken for mermaids by sailors of old). And if you’re lucky, even whale sharks.

there are no more dugong's bro,and diver's especially experience diver shouldn't go there to dive,not much to offer , tarp diving is good tho. Highly recommed there.
The 9th lie....sabah n sarawak also differs...though both are in borneo...fyi i dont know about sabah but in sarawak, our rivers are all muddy with or without the alledge deforestation. Stay away from palm oil is mainly an economic war by the other vege oil producers but the again do a holistic research about it. Include the socio economic importance too apart from just environmental. Anyway, make a trip to sarawak when you have the opportunity..
Hey I would love to visit Sarawak too! Yeah it's important to research all aspects I agree with that. I did find it sad to see the loss of orangutan habitat. But I understand that's easy for me to say - in the UK we sadly already destroyed most of our natural habitat a long time ago and I do understand it's often what happens with modern development.

Which one of the ministries - in Sabah who is suppose to be monitor all these rubbish/garbage ?? It has been going on for decades. The local government is turning a blind eye to it!

We are marginalized by the colonial Malaya for decades! Our development are mostly stalled especially in railway, road, electricity, water supply, school and etc compared to the Malaya. The Malaya colonial regime is only interested to exploits our natural resources such as oil and gas and etc, than used those revenues to develop Malaya (peninsula)! Sabah and Sarawak are marginalized since we formed 'Malaysia'.

Yes . Sea trash is the downside of Sabah especially where most Filipino ( mostly illegal ) resided. Most of the illegal Filipinos are uneducated as they cannot go to school in Malaysia😪😪

Pretty much missing out on a huge part of Malaysian Borneo if you haven't visited Sabah's 'sibling', Sarawak. While there are less resorts, there are many opportunities to authentically experience local culture such as staying in modern or traditional longhouses, or experiencing local cuisine straight from their kitchens. There's also the Cultural Village in Kuching, the Cultural Museum and the Rainforest Music Festival which attract thousands of tourists every year. It's also safe to roam around, the only securiy issue you'll face are with crocodiles 🐊

Borneans have unique delicacies that can seem exotic to West Malaysians, especially when it comes to halal and non-halal dishes like Kolo Mee, which taste different depending on how they’re prepared.
Spice use also varies between regions. East Malaysians often find Peninsular food too spiced, while Peninsular Malaysians may find Sabah or Sarawak food too mild. Personally, I can eat large portions back home & stay slim (physique), but the higher sugar and fat content in the peninsula makes a noticeable difference even for 1 week. 😂
Borneans, especially those from rural areas, have distinct taste buds and often find city food overly sweet or salty. Even vegetarians can enjoy Borneo’s variety of exotic fruits, plants, and mushrooms.

It only takes 20 mins drive from the Kuching airport to get to the Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre where Orang Utans are being rehabilitate.
For some sighseeing Orang utans, you may want to walk through the jungle going to Gomantong Cave. There's a great chances of you seeing few orang utans there/proboscis monkey. Else, you might want to travel (Usually tourist will not travel to this area) to area of Beluran, and the Paitan or Sugut river. chances are great there too. Some of the not known island on East Sabah also have some wildlife there.
Most of d places u visited is a tourist trap...get a local to guide u for real feel of sabah.

Well I lived in area whereas the Orangutan actually lived but not entirely present since Orangutan is a shy animal. Also for Bornean's Orangutan it is called Pongo Pygmaeus but yeah it is divided by 3 sub species ( Sabah's State it is Pongo Pygmaeus Morio).
You need to try the local friut in Sabah. Buah tarap, buah bambangan. Once eaten forever like it 😂

In Sandakan,we have the Orang Utan Rehabilitation center. And a few special awesome parks to visit,like the Crocodile Farm. But,for the safety,I mean wherever you go.Just be careful. In Sabah, ppl can just snatch your wallet from your hand😅. Or worse,they cut your bagpack without you realise it. So never ever put valuable item like HP, wallet on the table and make sure you carry your bagpack at your front side.

Too much false information can be obtain if meet with wrong people that asume themselve as tour guide (no licensed)..so be careful next time especially arrive at the airport. (A lot ehailing users will offer severals tour to you with unimaginable price by offline without using apps itself)

Hey, fully understand and respect your opinion! I spoke to lots of people in Borneo, many who do want to see an increase in sustainable, mindful tourism (which is what I promote). I always encourage people to visit eco-friendly resorts, clean up beaches and oceans, support conservation programmes etc and do believe that by doing this travel can be a force for good. People will always talk about destinations and share travel stories, we've been doing so since the beginning of time :)

Also, Indonesians usually don't use the name "Borneo", they refer to their part of the Island, and even sometimes the whole island, as Kalimantan.

whats the real need of seeing orangutans in the wild, to start with 😅? it requires waiting about in jungles with pesky mosquitos leeches, for like 5 minutes sightings ? the conservations, with built watching platforms, and with 99% assured sightings (?) are just perfect tradeoff
Hard to put into words but there's something especially magical I think, especially as there aren't so many of them. Personally I always will wait around to see one but each to their own :)

And I was staying in different areas. Even myself can't see orang utan daily. So it seems that you guys get a lot of misunderstanding about our country but I do appreciate you visiting the Borneo Islands,and I would have to say thank you 🙏. maybe next time you consider coming again but better in may, there is a traditional festival activity here in north Borneo. @@ClairesFootsteps indeed the feeling is different. we were lucky to be able to see some wild orang utans outside the Gomantong cave (somewhere in Kinabatangan jungle)
The feeling of seeing wild orang utan is very different , their eyes are " alive and happy",seeing them enjoying wild fruit , playing on trees, you can feel the happy atmosphere. zoo orang utan eyes has a dead and bored look. And the thrill of sighting a wild one is priceless. Btw , in a unbroken ecosystem , there won't be any mosquitos , I went to Danum valley , primary rainforest zero mosquitos.
Yes Danum Velly, the northern ulu segama urangutan habitats (NUS)are good area to spot urangutan in the wild. However not sure if the NUS is open for public visitation as infras for such purpose were not developed.
