Have a 12' PD since around 2002 beautiful vessel. At one point it needed cap rail replaced and although I ab pretty good with boat carpentry I took it to a Norwegian ship wright friend on the Miami River who's first words when he saw her was sell it to me. Years latter I did want to sell her and I called Olof and he jumped on it. around 2014 Olof was retiring and moving back to Norway so I bought her back. Olof being a master ship wright had done some beautiful custom work on the front and now she lives with me in Deer Point Lake Panama city Florida. Beautiful, row, sail, or motor boat with a 4 hp Yamaha I got for her.
I find it easier to first put the lower part of the mast into the mast step, attach the boom, then put the main sail on the mast by placing the rings on the lower mast one by one by placing them over the top of the lower mast section. This is much faster than unclipping and clipping the sail rings on one at a time. You then hook the shrouds on the upper part of the mast, the wind vane, attach the jib sheet, and place the upper part of the mast on. You have to do this with the boat on the beach or dock since it may be a little tall on the trailer, unless you have a step ladder.
Good point, Rickard, and I came to comment the same advice after putting up the rig on my GH Whitehall for the first time. Those hoops are a pain, and you (we) are right!
