While we were at the Lake of the Ozarks on a late summer night, we heard rustling and hissing a few feet from our campfire. I wasn't sure what it was, so I started throwing rocks at "whatever it was", to scare it away. Turns out it was a possum, and she crept all the way up to us, despite the fact that we were initially throwing rocks at it. He/she actually wanted company, and laid down beside us. Ever since then, I became fascinated by them. Amazing little creatures
@@Deletea So because they're wild and eat "garbage" they're gross? You can befriend wild opossums and raccoons, but I don't recommend it for the animal's safety since many people kill them. They're both intelligent animals that fill a role in nature. I've seen mothers of various species including these do everything they can to try to save a dying baby. Nobody can convince me that animals don't feel grief, fear, happiness, anger and such just as we do. They just can't take time off to do it if they want to survive. I do wildlife rescue and rehab and some of my best experiences have been with animals that people consider worthless.

They do. They are really so useful. They eat bugs. It's EXTREMELY rare they carry rabies and they can look mean but they are more afraid of us than we are of them. I love when they hang in my yard for a night or so(they tend to move around from place to place).
oof I found an injured possum in my backyard and took it to the vet and I was so excited that I had done something good and I waited for days just to know that it was too late.
Honestly they do, they're really interesting animals and should be appreciated. They keep the insect population under control and their digestive system has shifted to being able to eat basically whatever, and they're pouch animals which mean whilst developing the babies grow in the mother's pouch and come out once ready to
I didn't know they lived for such a short time! I mean - that's kind of understandable in the wild - but I guess I thought they might live up to 8 years or something in captivity. They are so adorable. I wish I could hold Kricket - her fur looks so soft and fluffy. RIP Barley. What a wonderful mom / rescuer!
I had an opossum coming in my house every night eating my cats food and I was afraid of my cat and the opossum getting into a fight ( my cat would of lost) so I started feeding her outside every night so there’s no reason for her to come in. True story: When I was in high school, I "rescued" an opossum from a local animal group. That is, they had some and one had babies, and I signed up and took one. Built a cool cage for it (big). After a couple of months, came home from school and found it dead, on it's back. Very sad moment. Being a kid, I took it out and tossed it in the garbage can [shrug]. When my dad came home from work, I told him, and he burst out laughing. He said, "Go look in the garbage can and find him." And sure enough, he wasn't there. And that's how I learned about the origin of the term "playing possum". I swear it's the truth.
True story WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL I saw a possum crossing the street and I swerved the truck I was driving.......to get a clean kill with the tire........lol jk. It was not a clean kill, i am sure it suffered! Lmao!

Years ago a young woman that was living with me for a while was out in my back yard. She came bursting through the door screaming, "Oh my God I think I killed this little animal." I said show me what you're talking about. She pointed to the little opossum lying curled up on ther ground. I said to her stand here looking through the door and watch. In about 3 minutes the little guy jerked back into life and ran like hell. She looked as me bewildered. I said HE was playing possum !!!!! lol Sweet story ...kindness to animals is NEVER wrong.
mostly cats 222: Hi! Pretty sure pandas are offshoots of the bear family, not marsupials. Their babies are small, yes, but there's no pouch for them. Pandas make nests, in dens, like dogs, cats, wolves, and bears. Baby or babies remain in the den nest till they are old enough to walk out on their own.
These animal videos make it clear that all animals would be our friends if we would just stop harming them. Giving them a chance to live with us shows how wonderful they can be. Haha I got something like that too. My neighbor and I usually leave nuts out for critters like squirrels and rabbits. And often, there's this one huge brown wild rabbit that I call Chunk. Chunk has like no fear of people, because every time I'd go to my car to drive to work, all the other critters would run away... except Chunk. Chunk would stop munching for only a moment, look up at me, and then go right back to munching as if to say, "Oh hey. It's you." Doesn't really like being touched, but he does hang out for a bit to let me feed him. Still see him every now and then.

Amazing little creatures
aw, that's really cute.

I will forever be ashamed for hating possums for no good reason just because I was taught they were "gross".
Such a narrow, close minded view.
No, it’s not. It’s natural to not like everything lol.
@@30dayride67 God bless you, my friend... ♡
@@Deletea yes... GOD has created all of those creatures for good purposes.
Just leave them be, if you do not prefer their company.
Amen.

Yea, ... we have racoons and possums that like to hang out around our fruit trees, racoons are usually real careful and slow moving (*at least, the 5 military formation, pack by my house) ... and real cute looking.. BUT, them possums never struck me as CUTE before...
*but, my nephew DRIX,... just digs 'em , for some reason?
*ours are NOT nearly as CUTE looking , as the ones in the videos here.
But, GOD bless them.
They just want to eat and live too.
Good job, my friends.
I feel possums get such bad rap.
Frosty Fantrash
You did a good thing. ❤
Honestly they do, they're really interesting animals and should be appreciated. They keep the insect population under control and their digestive system has shifted to being able to eat basically whatever, and they're pouch animals which mean whilst developing the babies grow in the mother's pouch and come out once ready to
Is it rap or rep?
The world needs way more of people like you. People are afraid of things that aren't used to. God bless you
Possums are like a mix between a bunny and a cute crocodile, damn adorable!
Evil Vhs or a cat and a mouse
Lol😆
Damn you're rights looks like a straight hybrid of them
GIANT RATS BUT CUTE LOVEABLE
😂😂😍
I didn't know they lived for such a short time! I mean - that's kind of understandable in the wild - but I guess I thought they might live up to 8 years or something in captivity. They are so adorable. I wish I could hold Kricket - her fur looks so soft and fluffy. RIP Barley. What a wonderful mom / rescuer!
Opossums are just the best. I love em.
Thanks for being a Possum Ambassador ❤ They are extremely gentle creatures yet many people are afraid of them because of their strange looks.
i think they’re adorable
I had an opossum coming in my house every night eating my cats food and I was afraid of my cat and the opossum getting into a fight ( my cat would of lost) so I started feeding her outside every night so there’s no reason for her to come in. She’s very sweet, comes when called, even comes to my door if I’m running late feeding her.❤️
Really? I think they look sooo fluffy and cute! ❤️ Do they only exist in America?
@@janajacoby3391 The Virginia opossum is the only marsupial native to North America however they are not native to western U.S. They live in south east U.S and Central America.🦡
@@jeanmcginnis9804 Okay! Thank you!😊
Who knew a possum could become such a good friend.
J. Mark Lane your comment made my day 😂😂😂

I said HE was playing possum !!!!! lol

I love opossums, in Mexico we call them "tlacuaches", they are such beautiful and cute little creatures. Thank you for taking care of them! 🤗💗
In Honduras we call them tacuazin
In California we call them Possums
In the streets we call them Takuaches, and inside a truck we call them Cuhhh or Edgar Junior.😂😂😂😂
Am I right in thinking that seems like a word from one of the indigenous languages of Mexico?

They're not rodents.
They are marsupials.
Pouch their young, like kangas, pandas.
mostly cats 222: Hi!
@@jilliansmith7123 I wonder if they meant to say koalas, and not pandas?
Believe231: you know, what, I bet you're right! I'm so dumb! Thanks for pointing that out. KOALAS!
They're swiss cheese if they get in my shed
human? knowing is required. 'The Purpose of DNA' even if they were rodents, so what? Rodents are ppl too and deserve love. We all deserve to be loved.
These animal videos make it clear that all animals would be our friends if we would just stop harming them. Giving them a chance to live with us shows how wonderful they can be. So uplifting to finally understand that these souls are just trying to live their lives and mean us no harm. That's the way we always should be with them. What a great world it would be!

This woman is so special.
So when I was younger I had a possum in my trash can an every day I went to talk to it an I feed it an hung out with it an I called him Mr.p I loved him true story
thomara petit did you marry it?
That's dope
Haha I got something like that too. My neighbor and I usually leave nuts out for critters like squirrels and rabbits. And often, there's this one huge brown wild rabbit that I call Chunk. Chunk has like no fear of people, because every time I'd go to my car to drive to work, all the other critters would run away... except Chunk. Chunk would stop munching for only a moment, look up at me, and then go right back to munching as if to say, "Oh hey. It's you."
Doesn't really like being touched, but he does hang out for a bit to let me feed him. Still see him every now and then.
