Being in Kpop world for more than a decade, INTW is still THAT GG debut song for me. It maybe hard for new Kpop fans to understand as the debut songs for GG nowadays are more on defining group concept/ style, and try to set the group distinct in the industry. As much as I like lots of debut songs that came after INTW, I still haven't found one that has the same impact as INTW. I guess I just miss those good old days that things are much simpler in Kpop :")
15:25 i try my best to not cry but i can't. I always add song from SM Classic to my playlist for no reason. I love it. And i hope SM will continue this project for long and making for other SM's song too
Glad I'm not the only one that cried. It didn't help that they had clips of the girls all through the years, and makes me appreciate 16 years and how their music still has an impact
SNSD's first public performance of into The New World was actually at a 'Water Park' during their pre-'official debut' introductory 'reality/documentary' TV series "Girls Go To School' which was cleverly melded with the already established 'School Of Rock'' 'guerilla concert' TV show, during which they would then first perform ITNW for their specific target demographic (K-Pop crazy high-schoolers). At the end of the series, they also did a performance at Taeyeon's high school (where, while SNSD and SoR 'pranked' the school kids, SoR's MC Boom and the students also 'pranked' Taeyeon). So, as SNSD themselves were still in high-school, GGTS was their first TV series and that it was combined with 'School of Rock' , and that performing ITNW in public was also their 'graduation' from SM Academy system, it makes sense that this orchestral version would begin with Pomp and Circumstance....even though it is indeed 'cheesy'. As an SNSD 'samchon' ( I'm 63) who discovered SNSD (and thus K-Pop in general) for myself only in 2019, I've been exposed to many musical genres throughout my life. This arrangement reminds me of 'classic' 1950's Hollywood Movie Musical scores that serve as medleys of the songs and musical themes that would be revealed in full as the movie musical played out. I find this type of orchestration very clever, and I even appreciate the 'cheesy' bits, just because the composers found a reason and an artful way to include them.
As always, so impressed about their knowledge about music and music theory, and how well they are at expressing their feelings in a fun and interesting way. It makes me listen to these songs differently, in a very positive way!
13:16 Kevin, this set of video clips was actually from "Himnae/Way to Go," the B-side of "Gee," recorded over a year after "Into the New World." The costumes and sets are from "Gee," and this music video was like a behind-the-scenes look at the "Gee" video. "Way to Go" is a cute rocker, which I think does well in concerts. "Kissing You" did come from the same album as "Into the New World," but was notorious for its lollypops.
The reason why this orchestra hits different compare to other release : 1. SM released it to mark the start of new era 3.0. They even played it in the meeting room after their annual meeting ( if u follow the management drama u would understand why its lowkey emotional) 2. Love how this version didnt run(?) far away from the original song. Like u still can sing along with it without finding it hard to stay on notes
I’m so excited to see this reaction! This song has so much impact and I’m happy we keep getting more classical versions of SM K-Pop songs! 1:48 The music video was remastered recently as part of SM’s remastering project. That’s why the original intro in this and several other classic SM K-Pop songs, like Sorry, Sorry by Super Junior and Gee by SNSD, are different. 6:44 That’s so cool to hear! I forgot about it, so I went back to the original reaction and what Kevin said is correct. He pointed it out at 6:33 on the original reaction how the Dvorak New World piece was the first line in Into the New World. Personally, I find the Pomp and Circumstance random, but I’ve gotten used to it after repeating the video multiple times. The orchestral version keeps making me cry. So proud as a Sone to see SNSD still making strides into the K-Pop world long after their debut. Thank you guys for doing this reaction!
I love this classical arrangement so much and *it's about damn time Girls Generation got one* , especially for a track with this much influence; the track that started it all. The arrangement does feel very celebratory (as Kevin put it, graduation like) of GG's achievements, similar to that of "Forever 1", and in my opinion, SM Classics have done this song justice with this arrangement.
Listening to this song, no matter what version, always makes me emotional. I'm the same age as the girls and have been following them since Gee, so this really hits me in a certain way lol.
This song was composed/arranged/vocal direction by Kenzie ( Kim Yeon-Jung) and the lyrics are by her husband Kim Jeong-bae (who also played guitar on the track!!) Considering Kenzie basically never does interviews, ( I think she has done 2 in her career) the likelihood of ever confirming the link between the first line notes and Dvorak is likely to be very difficult and/or complex to find out. Perhaps ask a composer who knows her if they could possibly be so kind to pass it on? Just a thought!! I have seen the comparison mentioned before on Music Stack. Also... brilliant to see Kevin and Henry doing this....
Kenzie graduated from the Berklee College of Music. It is difficult to imagine her not hearing the New World Symphony. I'd assume it was an inspiration.
@@icollectstories5702 Definitely , of course she will know it !! ( She was an MP&E major at Berklee). One of her interviews was with Berklee's own magazine, and she just visited them in person on 7-10 March with Chris Lee (SM CEO) , spoke at the Red Room at Cafe 939, held 2 days of student feedback and an open session day.
I loved this video! Loved hearing all the thoughtful critiques, and it was very educational too. I teared up listening to the orchestral version the first time, especially when the music swelled in the last chorus.
as a music nerd it is always so gratifying to see the reactors feel and react so strongly to the nuances they hear! so fun with the editing too. as always, love these videos.
13:15 is what I genuinely want played at my grad, wedding, etc. Like the build up to this beautifully arranged almost Disney-like whimsical chorus is spectacular!
3:00 Whoa! That's a really cool way that Forever 1 kind of harkens back to this song, since over there they're all "doing their own thing" but are "Forever 1" :D
Well, there are so many classical music that fully implemented the tempo and mood jump throughout the whole pieces, like "Four Seasons" by Vivaldi or whatnot (fun fact, pun intended and yes, it does existed. Not sure SM inspired by such pieces for Taeyeon's song), so technically there's a possibility of it.
YES, I always get excited when SM releases these videos not only because they're super cool but because I wonder if this channel will look at them. As always entertaining and insightful to see these guys' take on it!! Thank you : )))
4:24 my last two brain cells listening to this song 😅 I agree with Kevin that this song showed off their vocal chops. When I first heard it, I thought "these girls can sing"
The earliest date of ITNW's existence was 2002. It was supposed to be the title track of M.I.L.K.'s second album but was shelved because of M.I.L.K.'s disbandment on 2003. It great seeing fellow sones and smstans in the comment complimenting Kenzie or mentioning Kenzie. It's always great digging in and reading about the greats behind SM Entertainment and the backgrounds of those related to LSM. Memories are flooding me in when I used to reach sooo much about them (even including Sunny's appa). 🩵
I'm binge watching & it's funny & fascinating (and true) how they always say for sm artists that they've reacted to (that I've watched, sj, snsd, exo, rv), that the voices sound distinct. I think when you're just getting into kpop, it helps that their voices are distinct, you get to know them & also creates great harmony but later on, when you're already into kpop, it's just really good, like the song ages well.
I have no idea which fibers on my brain itnw touches but i cant help but cry! Loved how you guys reacted and it made it even harder to not cry haha 😭‼️ love the hype
This clip didn't have to start at all to receive any likes or something. The fact that they covered this song itself ... It was enough for me to give like to this reaction. Respect. And I liked how Umu found out the usage of this song and introduced it. Very touching as a Korean.
I can’t control my feelings when I hear this song. I always end up crying 😢😢 Thank you for the reaction, its very interesting to see the point of view of actual musicians
From what I remember when the original version of ITNW Remastered Version was posted, the intro was like changed a bit so the guy on the left must be right when he said he doesn't remember it as lushy (?)...
I agree with you about Elgar’s (Yes, it was quite corny..) However, this project was planned to celebrate SNSD’s 15th anniversary. In that respect, I don't think it was an unavoidable choice. And as you guys mentioned, the dramatic and sophisticated orchestration is commendable and pleasing. I appreciate SM's progress in the K-pop world as much as I enjoy your content.
Thank you for doing this. ITNW and snsd mean a world to me. Ive been sone from their early year till now so this is so nostalgic and mean a lot. Almost shed tears just from the wave of nostalgic impact coming.
Please respond to Cupid, The song is currently ranked at number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100. Among the K-pop groups, after their debut, they entered the Billboard charts faster than New Jeans and are becoming a hot topic every day. (The twin version in English sped-up on TikTok and the cover dance became famous, and thanks to the huge number of people who first heard and fell in love with this song on Spotify because they were curious about the original song, after entering the Billboard chart 5 weeks ago, the rankings rose incredibly quickly. As a result, despite being a rookie group from a small company that debuted only 5 months ago, they are gaining huge popularity around the world) As a group representing the 4th gen, it is the group with the highest possibility of becoming a group that connects Blackpink and BTS, so please give us a lot of interest. Ps. All songs are good, so I recommend listening to all the other songs (tell me, lovin me, higher, log in). to all 5 songs at once.
Como fan desde hace ya bastante tiempo puedo decir que esta cancion nunca dejara de ser tan iconica, es el principio no de una era si no de varias, el nacimiento de la leyenda, I'm so proud to be a SONE.
It has been forever since I last watched a ReacttotheK but I love Kevin's analysis and Henry brought great points to the table. Definitely agree with the medley / Hisaishi vibes! Lovely but too cheesy with the beginning and end for sure. As someone who has to hear that song at the end of every school year, yeah kind of sick of it :D
I have always thought that the music you like is because it sounds familiar to you. So, in this case, the SoShi song reminisces to that classical piece, that's why many people like ITNW, because many people have listen, at least once in their lifetime, to Dvorak's piece.

To me intw by snsd and Latata by Gidle are both legendary and amazing Debut songs

It’s wild how many versions of this song there are and how all versions spark emotion. The ballad version makes me BAWL.
Orchestra ver is very emotional if you guys following them since they debut until now 🥲

They should do red velvet, feel my rhythm orchestra version as well. It brought me tears each time.
They did reaction I think
sm classics always do arrangements that mix disney/gershwin and rachmaninoff which is cool for me

DUDE as a long-time SONE (13 years soon) and watcher of ReacttotheK I was literally waiting for a reaction on this arrangement of the SNSD ITNW 😭

I really wonder if SMC will make an orchestral version of "i got a boy". would it be more mind blowing?
