The song itself is really meaningful but after you go through something sad it becomes more meaningful. This is their debut song, they debut as 9. They trained so hard to debut together. In 2014 after Jessica’s departure they never sing the original version. This is like a try not to cry challenge for us and we never win
the ballad performance was so emotional because tokyo dome is like what every asian artist aspires to perform at, and when they couldn't go with jessica its just so sad
So much people say Taeyeon didn't cry at Tokyo Dome performance, but she did, she just didn't show it much or camera didn't catch it but like you said she pour her everything to her voice specially towards ends, and you can hear it it, very clearly, the emotion on it, and that just how she communication or tell fans how her feel 💗
We all know Tae and Jess weren't on the best terms by the end, but it makes me so angry when people say she had 0 emotions and was even *happy* that Jess was kicked.

If you actually look closely at around 17:31 you can see stream of tears on her face. When the light hits her face u can see the line of tears. She cried. Even if she didn’t it doesn’t mean anything. Taeyeon is a very guarded person. And probably the most guarded in SNSD. She rarely shows her true feelings. But she cried this time.

They fell out the previous year because Jessica was caught outside a club drunk with her boyfriend and his relative I believe, and the public speculated that it was Taeyeon and Yoona, so they had to take the heat for her. There probably was other things they disagreed on, but they got closer some time later on. Taeyeon is just very professional.
When everyone's crying, there's our best leader who's holding back, tryingg not to cry and slayin' the high notes. Taeyeon's the best leader, no one can convince me that she's not.
Sunny even said on her radio fm date "this is a message to my friend, if you feel tired or feel like no one else is beside you, you can always come back home" this is sadder as a sunshiner to see her crying😭😭

This is essential SNSD viewing but yes it’s hard to watch. Many believe that the space in the middle was intentionally left for her but that’s more fan speculation than anything else. Like someone else said, I think the bigger deal is that starting from this performance they never performed the original upbeat version of the song again, only the ballad version. I would like to think it’s the one hold out the girls had in regards to Jessica, that it was the one song they weren’t going to do without her, well the OG version anyways, but again that’s just speculation on my part and I don’t think we’ll ever get to know the real reason.

I love all the girls and Seohyun is my bias, but Taeyeon 100% carried that performance I agree that it has a lot to do with her being the leader of the group. Whenever I watch this performance, I feel the other girls were allowed to be vulnerable and raw because they knew Taeyeon had their back. And them being able to show their emotions is also a part of what makes this performance so epic. The strength Taeyeon shows in this performance and her willingness to put others before herself are only some of the reasons why I am always so incredibly thankful that Taeyeon is the leader of SNSD.
The comment about the gap being left for Jessica was a good pick up. It's well known that performing in Tokyo Dome a significant moment in any artist's career. This was meant to be the happiest, one of the greatest achievements for SNSD. Having to do the concert, not as a complete group must have been heartbreaking for them. The rumour was this was meant to be the farewell concert for Jessica before she left. However, things didn't quite work out as planned.
I think this performance was their goodbye to Jessica, an acknowledgement of who she was to them as SNSD, as a friend, a sister and who she was to the fans. As they came together filling up the gap, it is the beginning of a new chapter in SNSD as a group of 8. It's a bittersweet, grief-filled, but also a performance that is full of hope for what is to come.
I remember from a variety show from a long time ago (Gee era, I believe). They had a segment wherein the members have to draw somewhere and Taeyeon stayed behind to let the others go first, then drew on blank spaces left by the members.
From then on, I never had doubts about Taeyeon being the leader. I am not saying that the other 7 (or 8) are not capable of being a leader, but for me, she fits the role the best. Despite having her personal problems and though she faced a lot of issues herself, she remained strong and still carried the group. She is like the pillar of the group.
fact: Tokyo dome was Jessicas dream performance and rumour has it that the concert was meant to be jessicas departure concert, theres even a part before the ITNW number where they show the same video as they did in the opening ( speculations is that they were supposed to show a medley for jessica and didnt have time to reshoot anything so they used to same videos twice ), but obviously problems came up and she didnt get to perform at tokyo dome. If u look close in the beggining theres a spot in the middle meant for jessica.

This is why I try to get reactor to watch things in specific order or recommend certain videos first before others. Because you are right, something like the ballad version of ITNW, while it is amazing to watch by itself, hits different when you're emotionally attached to the group.

I think that this was their only performance that wasn't met with fanchants.. I remember that sones are very loud during concerts. but this was met with applause instead

When you saw Sunny and just said, "Sunny" it was every Sone's reaction to Sunny ever, I swear. She has that amazing ability to bring that response on just above every reaction I've ever viewed, no matter what song it is. Sunny is that instant "happy thought" and why we love her so much.

About the first video, the acapella arrangement really is beautiful, it's a shame they had to cut Hyo's dance break to move to another part of the stage, but that performance of Into The New World is one of my favorites, their vocals are so clear and I particularly love how you can hear Tiffany's smile in her voice when she sings. Okay, now onto the essay.
When i got into Kpop, I didn't have a stan account on Twitter, or Tumblr or Instagram or whatever. I got into groups by watching what TH-cam recommended me, or in SNSD's case I checked out Soshisubs and Soshified. So I had no idea what I was clicking onto, when a week after I got into Girls Generation, I saw this video on my recommended. At the time, I barely knew their names, but seeing them sing with so much emotion, I cried. Of course, I was already on my way to becoming a fan by then, but I think this was the moment that really put a nail on the coffin. Their passion got to me, and I felt like I needed to know their journey.
As you would imagine, it was a very emotional performance for the fans watching it live as well. There are fancams where you can hear people sobbing in the background.This is probably my favorite Kpop performance, I understand that people want everyone to watch it, so they recommend it super often. But I agree with you, I think to enjoy it to the fullest, you need to be more familiar with the group, that's why I didn't include it on my recommendation list, I thought you should at least know the members names before getting hit with such an emotional performance. I'm glad you waited.
Yes, Taeyeon put everything in her voice. It took me so many watches to even notice the tear marks. 2014 was a hard year for SNSD as a whole, with 6 members getting caught in dating scandals (which shouldn't matter anyway but oh well, Korea) to variyng degrees of public acceptance, to Mr Mr's song leaking and SM losing the mv so they had to reshoot it, and finally Jessica's messy departure. But I think it was especially hard on Taeyeon, her dating news with EXO's Baekhyun was the least accepted by far, and while he got his fair of backlash, the hate she endured was massive. And when the Jessica news broke out, a lot of people blamed her for it. Even to this day I sometimes see people saying that Taeyeon kicked her out of the group, and it makes me so mad. So for her, as the leader, to be the most put together one, to sing with such emotion while putting on a brave face, I think it's impressive. Taeyeon is such a strong person, and despite what she has gone through not only in 2014 but throughout her career, she carries on and seems to be in a much happier place in the last 2 years or so. I am so glad for that.
I think you really nailed what makes SNSD so special. They have and continue to inspire so many others. Almost every girl group I know has covered them at some point. I've lost count of how many idols have said they wanted the job because of SNSD. Earlier this year, Yoona attended an awards show for movies and the winner of the best new director award cried because listening to SNSD got her through film school and she received the award in front of Yoona. And their impact is not limited to entertainment. ITNW has become a protest song in Korea for anti curruption protests, women's rights issues and LGBT parades. A few days ago I saw a man dancing to it and people singing along in a Thai protest! This is their impact.

I think 7 of them date in 2014 only 2 of them are single and it's Sunny and of course Seohyun who always dates potato.
7 of them caught up in dating scandal, Jessica did not admit but obviously Tyler, and Hyoyeon was announced that she broke up with the ceo guy.Dispatch having the time of their lives following the girls and revealing them one by one.The comments here are making me emotional, might be bias but SNSD journey is the best I have ever watched, that includes one bittersweet memory, their former Sica.And Taeyeon, Im glad she has been in a better place lately,Im also happy that all of them are happy and successful in their chosen careers, at the same time still being relevant and respected as SNSD brand in the industry.No major drugs or gambling issues.And remained sisters

It is very emotional for the girls too, TOKYO DOME is their dream, their goals, and it was meant to be Jessica’s last concert before she go on hiatus to concentrate on her fashion brand but things happened, they never thought Jessica will leave them earlier and they did leave a spot for her in the middle and they close the gap after the first verse as a symbol that they also walkin into their new world without her

They didnt have a power to choose their title song for their album, SM choose for them.....They all have contract to always put the group activity as their priority on top of their individual and jess break that, she always late on group practices, come on their schedule in a last minute, SM is a professional company, you break the contract you out and even if like you said the other members really kick her out, why would she leave??? She have legal contract with the company and also why she didnt file a law suit to SM??? If Jessica broke her contract there’d be more to pay than just the clean removal from the group and the dissolving of her contract, don’t you find it kinda strange that despite many artists breaking from SM, Jessica’s was the smoothest, it was almost amicable whereas everyone else had a legal battle with SM? Jessica was one of the most popular members in snsd but they let her go that easily just because she wanted out not only of the group but the company? - besides she literally said in her statement she was kicked out, I don’t think it’s as black and white as money or that Jessica was completely innocent but you people need to realise that if the eight of them banded together kicking a member out isn’t exactly hard especially considering how they were pretty much one of the biggest money makers in SM at the time - if she just blatantly lied she definitely would have been sued for slander or defamation but SM did nothing they just let her go on about her day. There’s literally ZERO evidence of her ever being late to practices, she was one of the members who was actually the most consistent with her schedule despite blanc. But you’re trying to tell me that after getting permission twice from the company for her brand, within the span of one pretty dry month in terms of schedule (blanc was launched in august - Jessica was removed in September) she missed so many ‘practices’ none of the public were aware of, that she breached her contract?
There has been many instances where member put individual schedules ahead of group ones - Yoona, Sooyoung, yuri - they’ve all missed group performances to film dramas.
Jessica was in that company for fourteen years, she knew how things worked and she wasn’t stupid.
You also forget Jessica had krystal to think about too, if she made a move on SM it isn’t exactly rocket science to know that as her sister, Krsytals career and promotion would have suffered for it.
Taeyeon literally said in a TTS fan meeting after 9/30 ‘I only did what I thought was best for the group’ or something along those lines and asked the fans to trust them again.
I don’t think Jessica was without fault but I do think she was kicked out.
Vocals and performance aside, the way they switch mic smoothly from left hand to right hand just amazed me. I love them to the core. 🥰

Since Jessica left, I've only ever seen them perform the ballad version of their debut. There's another performance where they get emotional because Sones flew airplanes (reference to the music video) on stage. It was really soft!

In early years of SNSD, you can see Taeyeon saying she is not leader-like and that its not her personality but because she was the oldest then she has to take the role.She had a hard time, especially with other 8 extroverted and opinionated sisters.However, she did the best she can.There are a lot of programs and shows, the girls will say that Taeyeon is suffering because she is being so hard on herself, blaming herself and for being a perfectionist.She will always put her members first before her.This scenario, she really stood her ground being a leader, and losing one of their members - take note snsd brand before was soshibond, their closeness, plus people blaming her for being a bad leader. I dont know what to say anymore. lol Taeyeon got depressed from too much pressure and other blown out of proportion issues, prize of being in a Huge top group in Asia during their peak.I’m glad she seems like she has been better for the past 2 years, and can now comfortably do what she want to do.Even deciding to go back to TV after 10 years.Im also glad the rest of the girls, including Jessica are successful and happy with their chosen career.And glad that at the same time SNSD is a brand in Korea/kpop, that will go down in history.And the girls are healthy and happy, I cant wait for them to have their own family and truly find happiness.As Taeyeon mentioned they are already arguing who will get married girst
Taeyeon developed into a leader, but I agree she lacked leadership qualities early on in their career. I think SM is just lazy as they almost always name the eldest member of the group as the leader. I mean there are times when they hit the jackpot and do name the right leader like Irene of RV and Victoria of f(x).

this is just a fan theory but someone did point out to me way back in the day that they left a gap in the middle in the beginning, and a lot of people think it was done on purpose as an acknowledgement of jessica's absence. since this arrangement of their debut song was meant as a kind of tribute to their career as a 9 member group and it was their first major arena concert with 8 members, it's plausible they wanted to acknowledge her in some way despite any mixed feelings...the fact that they start out in a straight line split 4 to each side, and then come together as 8 does look symbolic, seeing it again now. No one really knows what went down; I assume there were hurt feelings all around, and the biggest bummer is that SM's handling of things made reconciliation pretty much impossible. so this performance was meaningful in a lot of ways; it felt like the only closure fans and members were going to get. sry to add to the tons of repetitive fan rants you must be getting about this. you'll find most snsd fans are just waiting for the tiniest excuse to start ranting about jessica ;)

I really should stop watching Into The New World ballad version reaction, it slap me hard and brought me back to 'that' time everytime I watch this stage. I remember thinking that rumour must be some kind of jokes until SM confirmed it. It's literally feels like you got slap so hard and you can't even think. It never even crossed my mind that she would left, not any of them would left. Then comes this stage video, I never saw Kim Taeyeon sing like that before and I was like "Ah... So this is really happening right? Thats why you sing like that?".
But that was all the past, we need to moved on right? Besides they're still them😊

ITNW isn't just a song it's a spiritual experience!!!
These two performances demonstrate very clearly that SNSD weren't just a bunch of pretty girls with pretty voices churning out catchy commercial pop ( like Gee! and Oh! and Kissing You for example) but genuine vocal artists. And its beautiful to hear each member's unique voice so clearly. I think it's also notable that they'd already performed for , what, almost two hours (?) before this ballad, and could have ended the concert right there--but after making everyone ( and themselves) cry, they came back out for another half hour of high-energy songs and cheered everyone up. They are so professional, and so relentlessly positive.
I never get tired or bored with this iconic legendary song in Kpop.. It's always in my heart 'till forever.. 😭 I love Soshi so much.. Been a SONE for 10 years is such a bless.. ❤❤

Into the new world literally is a generation starting point for opening the door for more girl group.
Even tiffany herself said it and we can all agree ITNW didn't just open the doors for more girl groups but also became a songs widely used in protest in korea and Thailand.

SNSD had been through enough on this year (2014)...Also Taeyeon,she got a hates from the fandom and non-fandom as they blame her because of Jessica departures. But as a SONE since day one (at that time when they debuted,I was only 17 but now I'm 29),I really glad that SNSD remain as the only legendary girlgroup from 2nd Generation that still superactive in music world. I still support Jessica also.

I always cry again and again and again even if it's a reaction to it. I went through even worse kpop wise but whenever I watch or see the stage or sunny in that stage I break down. All the time. It's been years why can't I move on. Snsd changed so many of our lives as sones and that's why it hits me so hard still

The song itself is very meaningful for both the girls and sones.. being their debut song, it's been there throughout their whole journey together.. they trained for more than a year on this song before they got to actually perform it live to the public. the girls consider it the most iconic and it is indeed since it is considered a 2nd national anthem by the Korean nation (it is always sung by the crowd in protests and parades) and recently in other countries also!

Both who have been through sooo much throughout all these years from hardships, struggles, members leaving the group/agency, different serious and dating scandals, losing their friends and family, receiving so much toxic critism and hate, unable to actually let themselves be expressive on serious matters because they have to be the strong foundation for their groups and are always the one from the group that are highly expected to be siding with fans or in favor of fans specially when there are issues within or surrounding the group! 💔
