    Two years ago, My girlfriend and I curated one of the biggest month long horror themed art show and film festival in NYC, it was called LIC Fear. It ran the month of October till Halloween, during the last weekend we had the film festival which consisted of shorts. I decided to open the festival with a lecture I wrote titled 'BitTorrent and the discovery of long lost horror films'. I choose ten lesser known horror films that were never released for DVD and lost in the discontinued VHS market, which were discovered by horror fans on BitTorrent. Ghostkeeper was one of the films I had reviewed.
    I remember finding Ghostkeeper in the now defunct website Tracker3 torrents which only dealt with rare horror and cult films never released on dvd, or rips from Laser-disk. Ghostkeeper impressed me with its atmosphere, the howling sounds you would hear in the soundtrack brought out the atmosphere. The direction was top notch, and the acting was amazing. I got a descent rip from VHS, and looked for this movie for years to see if there was a Blu-Ray release. What I like is what you don't see, leaving the audience to inter-pent whats going on. If I had to make a comparison with another Canadian horror film with would be with Curtains( 1983) which is similar in tone, but Ghostkeeper brings that supernatural thriller perfectly, I am glad you reviewed this film!

    • @rolandofgilead43
      @rolandofgilead43 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      while i'm glad you liked it i didn't but to each their own, Curtains i have seen it was a decent movie but it's not one i expect to watch again though i will say that the end of that i did not see coming, that was a nice change and than the dream with the mask that should have been used in the film more than that one scene that thing was creepy as fuck.

    This movie reminds me of The Shining, with the setting and the isolation, when you realize there's no way out!

    • @Packitagain.
      @Packitagain. 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Isolation in a horror movie setting is less used in current horror movie and I think it's a real shame. The most terrifying thing for me about Romero's original "Night of The Living Dead" is the sheer isolation the ideas that no ones coming to help or even look for you untill you're long dead.

    • @arthas640
      @arthas640 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Packitagain. isolation is a much scarier thing to people than monsters and jump scares. It's both more relatable, and thus gets people more emotionally invested in the film, as well as truly more terrifying. Soldiers and fighters both find the build up to a fight more terrifying than the fight itself. With horror movies I think this is just as if not more true.

    As a young horror fan in the 80s here in the UK I remember seeing the ridiculous chicken monster box art and completely ignored it. Had it kept the US cover of the skull and the lodge I'm sure it would have better prompted young me to see. I feel I've missed out now. While I'm here, I'd love to see you cover The Evil. This review reminded me a bit of that with its isolated mansion

    Great indepth retrospective on this forgotten underrated Canadian film. The director hails from our province! We recently did a recommendation for this movie too. It's got great atmosphere and locations. The snow really helps the feeling of isolation. Too bad they ran out of money and couldn't shoot the rooftop ending :( Thanks for helping spread the word on this movie.

The night tour was frightening even though I had worked as a Red Bus "jammer" before and was familiar with the place. No heat as well (she stayed in a separate cabin) but damn, whatta set.

    This is one that I have reviewed myself as part of reviewing 3 movies called "The Tower". I will always remember it because during the chase scene up the stairs to the roof (7:15) it starts with a chainsaw, but the guy falls and you here the chainsaw stop working then the guy runs up the stairs with a knife. All I could think was "how more low budget can you get than having to change murder weapons mid scene because you couldn't afford a second chainsaw"

I agree with your statement on how if the monster is shown too much, it can lose it's creepiness or scariness. Sometimes less is better. i at first could not remember even seeing this movie at all the name of it flickered a maybe memory of watching it, and when i saw the poster art for it i remember this film, i borrowed the VHS from a friend years ago because New World put it out and i'm a die hard Corman fan. anyways i remember nothing about it at all except them walking into the hotel and it was the Original opening i think. on what i thought of it? i thought it was one of the worst movies that i've ever seen in my life. i do not remember what i didn't like about it cause i'm 41 i saw it when i was i think in my 20's. the movie i think is just that forgettable for me anyways. but i'm glad you enjoy man and honestly your video was more enjoyable than the actual movie.
    if i recall the opening that i saw anyways, was them going in to warm up during the day and them using candles for light. other than that i don't remember anything else.
