chitosan

(deacetylchitin, poliglusam, chitopearl)
A sugar, linear polysaccharide composed of randomly distributed β-linked D-glucosamine and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine.
It is obtained from the hard outer skeleton of shellfish, crab, lobster, and shrimp with an alkaline substance such as sodium hydroxide.
It is used in some wound dressings to decrease bleeding.
It is also used for agricultural and horticultural purposes, etc.
It is sometimes used for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, wound healing, and other conditions, but there is little scientific evidence to support them.
