@@michaelhuynh5556 Great question. It’s just good habit, someone may think they turned the right breaker off or the electrician who wired the house could possibly mislabel the circuit and it still may be hot. Happened to me before I was working on a 120v outlet and my foreman wired a kitchen circuit with an adjacent room while I was working on that receptacle and he flipped the switch, shocked myself. Not a good feeling. Always consider safety first. Happy wiring to ya!
I found this video a couple of days ago. I followed his instructions and found them very easy to follow. The Ring flood light provides very little direction in the instructions. I’ve never done any sort of electrical work before and quickly became overwhelmed.. found this video and finished in about 20 minutes.
The slate is called a window splice. Basically you could just connect the other wire in that little slit cut, that makes more sense if you’re trying to run the shielding of a wire to the ground, which doesn’t make sense in this case.

The motion detection is helpful to me as well to monitor what happens on our front.
....or spend a couple bucks only and get the rocker or toggle switch covers that make sure the light switch stays on (or off) with no one tampering with it.
There's always a chance someone will flip the light switch while you're working. It's like gun safety, you can get away with being sloppy, but better to instill the habit of following best practices. That reminds me of one time I was sitting in my home office and the light switch beside me flipped up by itself (I heard it and the light came on). I still to this day have no idea how that happened. The switch is an old-style smooth lever with no spring action. That was probably 20 years ago and it never happened again. It's like the lamest ghost story ever but I swear it's true.
Great video. Love the continuous power. Idiot at Best Buy said I couldn’t hard wire like this. Plug in only. Tried selling me on battery powered. But no to batteries my friend. We live in Winnipeg 🥶
The two wires you put a nut on at the switch that was 2 black wires and white and black? And what did u do with the ground did you put a nut on that one too? I’m trying to try this next week
Refer to wires as hot and neutral. If you put hot and neutral together with no resistor it goes boom, fire, spark, hopefully trips breaker fast. ground goes to the load, which in this case is the Ring light.
Never let a ground wire touch a hot wire. I would recommend an electrician, which I am not. I just make videos of myself installing stuff for entertainment purposes only :)
How to did you convert it to a continuous light? Did you just combine the hot and neutral wire from the switch? What exactly did you do at that point? It wasnt covered as well and cant seem to find a solid vid on this
Hey, the switch just used the hot wire, and breaks the connection when switched off. I just bypassed the switch. Neutral wire doesn’t run through the switch 👍 I would read up on 120v circuits before messing around though

Simple question. What's the purpose for killing power to an entire circuit when the light fixture is on a switch that kills power ????????
There's always a chance someone will flip the light switch while you're working. It's like gun safety, you can get away with being sloppy, but better to instill the habit of following best practices. can you keep the old light and connect the ring to the light wire and have the ring and light turn on and off together?
Good instructions and well explained.
The small cuts in the wire ends are precuts so all you have to do are pull them off and wire ends are ready to connect

Question? Does the mount come with the camera or is it purchased separately?
Can you use the Wi-Fi on your smartphone only or do you get to have your house hooked up to Wi-Fi
what if it is a new installation , and not an replacement installation. An area taht doesn't already have a preset mounting bracket?
You have to run wire and make an opening and install a bracket.
What if you don't have a ground wire? When I got mine off the ground wire was just wrapped around the metal bracket.
So if I remove the toggle switch, then the ring camera is always on…so how do u turn the lights on and off??
Through the app. You can set times and such, motion, etc
