Shohei is at 43-43 on Aug 30a fews after your VTR. The 1st baseball player to reach 43-43 in MLB history! You might have make VTR more often to keep up with Ohtani's pace since it only takes him 7 games fr 40-40 to 43-43😂!
Honestly 50 SBs are easy for him as long as he’s healthy. The question is whether he can hit 50 bombs or not. He cannot have a slump this month, I really want him to pull it off
Today on Sept 8, 2024 game, Ohtani hit another HR & he is at 46-46 now. Ohtani got 6more HR & 6 more steals after your VTR. For historical 50-50, Ohtani needs only 4 more HR & 4 more steals. Yet Judge is still at 51th HR as you mentioned in this VTR 13days ago. So we can find out how they're going to do in the 19 games that left.
The main factor Shohei's BA dipped was precisely because he was swinging for the fences every at bat whereas last season he was possibly hitting record number of line drives into the outfield wall for doubles. Lately, he is striking out much more than usual, and he draws walk for steals opportunity, especially with Mookie behind him. Whenever they both get on base, you can bet a double steal is coming.
Also worth noting that Jose Ramirez has very quietly, especially for being the best player on another pretty legit looking contender, gotten well within striking distance of posting a 40/40 season himself. Came into today with 33 HR/32 SB.
I don't want him to try to go for 50-50 if it makes him vulnerable to injury. The priority is the playoffs and the World Series. I saw Klay Thompson ruin his career by getting injured when the Golden State Warriors tried to break the all-time wins record.
I think the only thing stopping him is the HR. He will steal 2 a game if he has to in the end if that's what he needs. I have noticed that the last 3 HRs are all out of balance pull on outside pitches. I feel like he is compensating since teams are attacking him inside hard and outside soft. In order to catch up to the inside hard stuff he lets his hip fly open too soon if the pitch is outside. That's my only concern. While it is good that he has the power to still hit it out of the park on an off balance swing like that, but I would rather see him go opposite field HR like he did so often in the past. I have a feeling that he is pressing to try to hit HR.
I would so happy for him and be a big Shohei fan if he wasn't a dodger. Why do the 2 players we almost singed have to be the ones that are going yard every day!?
Ohtani didn't have UCL replacement surgery (aka Tommy John). New procedure where the ligament is left in situ and it buttressed by additional material. Much easier rehab.
