This is an absolute classic game. I still remember all of these levels - and It must be 25 years since I played this version. Thanks for posting all of these memory boosters!
I introduced this game (and Shufflepuck Cafe) to my school computer room in about 1993. The 150 levels version. I was quite the legend amongst my friends :D
I actually clocked C64 Load Runner, it had 150 levels in total and then went back to the first level and was a bit faster. I remember getting busted by the old man a 6am in the morning when he got up to go to work because I had been playing up all night playing Load Runner.....
One of the very first games I can remember that let you design your own levels. Used to play this game for hours on end, and designing levels with my friends. I know you could save them to floppy, but I seem to remember you could save them to tape as well. Good times (This and Jumpman Junior, Toy Bizarre, Magic Lamps and H.E.R.O.)
@@pointbeingproductions5796 I too made levels that were tricky, clever or just plain hard as heck. In fact, I'd make some of those levels and save them to disk, then come back to play them a year later and forget how to finish the level!
Same. Apple II+ & e. Map design alone was fairly genius, let alone the nuances of gameplay. Ironically, "Stunts" was my favorite Broderbund game (PC). 😎
Hmmm the C64 has a white "runner" and blue "chasers". I wonder why the Atari 400/800 version only has a purple background an lighter purple runner and chasers? One thing I noticed was the characters in the C64 version were off centered when climbing ladders - they're 1 or 2 pixels too far right. Still a great game.
@elvirtnt @Dick Fageroni: Yes the original 1983 version had 150 levels. The last one was a UK flag made with stairs (some tricky) and bricks and the usual. It was impressive. I was a mini-champion at it!
There's a difference in the set of levels between C64 disk and tape (smaller number), so I would guess the PC version would come close to the full C64 disk version.
At age 15-16 or so I occupied my friends room for hours in addiction to this c64-game. Made it to level 81 in a 3-hours+ session. So many level-variation and difficulties, with a game made of very simple units/bricks: Solid ground Ground possible to make hole in. Ground with secret fall-through trap Ladder Line Lode Runner Enemy-dudes Gold to collect. The enemy could take and bring the gold to another place. The enemy-guys was always chasing Lode Runner (you) but the pattern was easy to learn so you could fool him to go up or down another ladder than yourself. They were kind of stupid, but still annoying to have close behind. After collecting all the gold, the secret ladder showed up, and reaching the top, you got the nice short melody. If trapped in selfmade hole, you were eaten and lost a life. If trapped in somewhere not eaten, you had to press CTRL-A to lose life. En enemy-guy trapped in "made hole" (CTRL-Z?) it was eaten and dropped from top of screen. One funny thing was to jump after the enemy-guy and touch his head without danger. You could also jump away from him during fall. Lode Runner could jump as high as possible without damage. Magic... Also very fascinating to make own levels (up to 150 on floppy). This was my first hands-on with floppy-storage.
The french name for that game available on 8 bit computer thomson mo5 or to7 computer was .... Androides ! Back in 85 it took 10 minutes to load from an audio cassette. Great memories :)
I played this version on the Atari XE and it was AWESOME! The NES version sucked because it didn't show the whole screen at once. I always wished they would've included a "low-res" option.
The disk version I believe. The C64 cartridge version had only 16 levels and no level designer. I remember as a kid driving with my parents 60 miles to buy the cartridge. I think the disk version had 150 levels
Your a true load runner player! Oh hey, I just did a video showing the level editor for load runner. Also I have 50 screens I created. Also I wrote a small level edit program to change the first saved game on championship load runner to play any level, and start with 10 lives. I could give you the code.
This is the tape version. Less levels and no video switch-over effects, such as the centre circle that gets smaller and smaller until all is black and then reversing that to present the new level's image. Can we see the real deal, please?
This game was great. I never knew about the arcade version when I was a kid. I eventually found out about the arcade version, when I was messing around with MAME about 10-15 years ago. I much prefer the C64 version over the arcade version, even though the arcade version has better graphics.
Anyone else notice the third scene includes a "Nazi" eagle? Btw: played this as a kid...always wondered why there was no music playing in the background. Would have been a nice touch.
One of the few games to start out on a Computer (the Apple II version was the original) to actually get ported to the arcades. Not a fan of the arcade version though. I prefer the simplicity of the Computer graphics to the cutsey ones that the arcade version uses
Wow. I just noticed that as a ten year old I sucked at all these C64 games… - I think I never went past lvl 3 on this? I never finished Mission Impossible, I never finished the ship in Paradroid. I think I may have won Defender of the Crown once? But not even sure on that, I guess the only game I ever won was Beach Head.
This is an absolute classic game. I still remember all of these levels - and It must be 25 years since I played this version. Thanks for posting all of these memory boosters!
Oh god! I remember all those maps and how much I struggled for each of them. That joy when the ladder to exit appears!
This one is on my top 20. Simple - but engaging.
One of the first games I played on the C64 ♥
Another game that I loved as a teen, brings back memories!
What an awesome display of gaming skills!
Ah! I still remember some of the outlays of those screens! Goozebumps! Thank you! And RIP to Douglas E. Smith!
Terrific game. Great memories. Another broderbund game I loved was 'Raid on Bungeling Bay'.
this is my favourite computer game. nice video upload. thx, man/woman!
my first favourite video game as a young kid, me and my uncle played and tried for hours to get past a very high level, excellent game
***** Yep
A lot of levels. Like many commodor 64 games-very hard to finish.
The game was developed for Apple
Such an awesome game, loved this back in the day.
I had this on the Vic 20 and then the C64
Love and miss this game so much!!!
What a great game. Looks brilliant, even now.
Used to play this one a lot. And Dark Castle.
Loved that game so much!
The first computer game I ever played!
I introduced this game (and Shufflepuck Cafe) to my school computer room in about 1993. The 150 levels version. I was quite the legend amongst my friends :D
Yep, that was the Championship Edition. Great times!
I actually clocked C64 Load Runner, it had 150 levels in total and then went back to the first level and was a bit faster.
I remember getting busted by the old man a 6am in the morning when he got up to go to work because I had been playing up all night playing Load Runner.....
one of my favorites
Świetna gra. Jedna z moich ulubionych w tamtych latach :-)
this and Jumpman was a great afternoon
Hundreds of hours spent on that game on my C64 mid 80's
My Mother mastered this game. My father got so sick of watching her play this for hundreds of levels, hours after hours :)
R.I.P. Douglas E. Smith
And who is it?
My childhood!
Bless you...
I'm looking into programming a version of Lode Runner on an Atari 7800. Thanks for posting this video, it's going to be a great help to me.
Elegant play style.
Perfect Gameplay!
Oh man what a classic!

Sorry, it was "Master of the Lamps", not "Magic Lamps".
Myself And My Kids Played BC Quest For Tires , Jumpman Jr , And Lode runner On C-64 . Another Favorite Was Asteroids , At The Arcade .
I used to love making elaborate levels for my friends to figure out
@@pointbeingproductions5796 I too made levels that were tricky, clever or just plain hard as heck. In fact, I'd make some of those levels and save them to disk, then come back to play them a year later and forget how to finish the level!
those were sum smooth maneuvers lo;
I remember spending hours playing this on my Apple ][. Some of the levels were surprisingly difficult iirc.
Same. Apple II+ & e. Map design alone was fairly genius, let alone the nuances of gameplay.

Eines meiner Lieblingsspiele auf dem C64

No this is NOT the full version. this is the tape/cart special short version. the full DISK version is 150 levels.
Oh I have done nice 👍 memories about this game! Loved to play it! Some things you never forget I guess!❕😁☑️♥️
유치원때 재밌게 했는데 깨보질 못해서 엔딩이 정말 궁금했었는데 올려둔 사람이 있었네
NOSTALGIA!
2:40 Like a byRD that cant be herd?
this was the firstr geömöd ´engine´?

OMG I loved this game, I could never remember the name
So the PC and C64 versions had different sets of levels? Fascinating.

Great playin' man! Nice video.
RIP D.E.S.
wasn't this one of the first games to have its own built in level designer?
The disk version I believe. The C64 cartridge version had only 16 levels and no level designer. I remember as a kid driving with my parents 60 miles to buy the cartridge. I think the disk version had 150 levels
Played this in high school in 1985.
Played this in grade school in 1985.
Played this sometime in my early childhood around 2000.
Played this as a toddler in 1987
Ah, memories lol.
I will also try to pass Loderunner two parts on the NES
Those are supposed to be gold bars he's collecting? I always thought they were giant Bonkers!

Yo dj, bring that game back
I wasted a lot of my teen years on this game.
You blessed* your teen years..
This is the tape version. Less levels and no video switch-over effects, such as the centre circle that gets smaller and smaller until all is black and then reversing that to present the new level's image. Can we see the real deal, please?
This is the full version. The game starts again in Level 1.
I think you mean the sequel "Championship Lode Runner" This game had a lot of more levels.
Ah, yes. Didn't it have something like 150 levels? None of the sequels ever did it for me, but the original did (and Championship of course).
This game was great.
I never knew about the arcade version when I was a kid.
I eventually found out about the arcade version, when I was messing around with MAME about 10-15 years ago. I much prefer the C64 version over the arcade version, even though the arcade version has better graphics.
I agree totally, the C64 version feels more "zany", for lack of a better term. Sometimes less is definitely more ✌️
J'adorais ce jeu et j'ai fait des parties endiablées !
I know it was also in the arcades, but to me I always preferred the simplicity of the Microcomputer versions
memories... daaa daa de daa daa de daaaar
My favorite thing was making my own maps
Oh Mann das hab ich damals in nem Computerclub in meiner nähe zum ersten mal gespielt.
Wie alt war ich da ? 6 Jahre ?
Propably the first videogame i played
Anyone else notice the third scene includes a "Nazi" eagle? Btw: played this as a kid...always wondered why there was no music playing in the background. Would have been a nice touch.
Ahahaaa awesome, I remember that game...I played it when I was 4 or something...xD I totally forgot it....but man, that game was so much fun
nie wiedziałem, że to takie dobre było.....wow

Did anyone else ever make it through the 150 levels
Why is nobody talking about that this is a clone of the nes game?
Hi Dude, du did it only to level 17, this ist not really longplay, i played Lode Runner 1984 all the levels, what's that dude?
