DIY Removable Rear Seat Delete for Overlanding/Camping

  • The problem with most seat delete kits is that they require permanent installation and have awkward cutouts to get to factory storage bins mostly rendering that space useless. If you’re anything like me, you need your rear seats from time to time and committing to a full loss of seats in your truck is not something you want to commit too.
This build specific to the 3rd gen Toyota Tacoma, allows you to quickly add and remove the seat delete for when you need and and remove it when you do not. It also allows for access to factory compartments even when goods are stacked on top of the platform

Great video! When ordering the extruded aluminum lengths what dimension did you choose for Fractional length?

Hey thanks for the question. The link in the description to the website has a breakdown for all of the parts and sizes you would need for the third gen tacoma. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

which Dometic product do you have? Also, can you make one that goes from drivers to passenger side and slides out and tilts?

      That is a Dometic CFX 55IM. www.dometic.com/en-us/outdoor/coolers/electric-coolers/dometic-cfx3-55im-220584
In regards to the slide out and tilt, it would take quite some work you would likely have to build a box frame that ties into the seats and rests on the spot where the tacoma has under seat storage (assuming its a tacoma). You would likely also need to use the 60% seat of the two rear seats so that is something to consider as well. There are some slide out and drop down kits that exist on the market you could also retrofit. I would not recommend building the frame out of 80/20 aluminum for something like that, would go with a custom steel frame thats welded together. Hope this helps and thanks for the comment. Cheers!

Can the Dometic fridge slide out, so you can easily access food ?😊

Hey thanks for the comment. So we can get into the fridge really easy. Actually pushes againt the roof almost fully open at 90 degrees and stays open with the friction. Slides might be possible but would raise the fridge height even more

Been thinking about doing the same thing to mine. I’ll be getting an under the back seat compressor which I think is what you have as well. If so how difficult is it to reach the compressor?

So I don't have a under seat compressor. You would have enough room to get a quick connect in with a 90 degree elbow. I would also recommend taking the cover off so it's out of the way. That should work. An easy way to check would be to take the seat off and grab a level. Put it on top 9f the seat mount and measure down to see how much room you will have. Happy to try and help any way I can. Thanks for watching the video!
