  • Utashinai City in Hokkaido is the least populated city in Japan.
As of March 2019, only 3,200 people live in this city, which was developed from a former coal mine.
At its peak, Utashinai had a population of over 46,000, but it did not meet the requirements to become a city.
However, it became a city with the aim of reaching 50,000 people.
However, due to changes in Japan's energy policy, the main industry of coal mining was already in decline, and the city declined without ever reaching 50,000 people.
In terms of attention, Yubari is a bit of a blur and many people may not know about it. I thought I'd take a picture.
This is what I wanted to say, but I hope people will be interested in Utashinai and visit us.
I hope that the number of people who visit Utashinai and spend money there will increase.
There are only two Seicomart convenience stores.
Other than that, the only other restaurants I could find in the video were "Tsumugi" in front of the roadside station and the community centre. By the way, I went to check the shop of Mr. Kimura of the meat (a specialty) which appeared in the video after filming, and it was open, so it is a shop which is still active.
In December 2020, I bought some "nanoko" skewers from the shop.
I put it in the community of this channel.
It's also a way to show our support!
