    Pretty sure I'm not the only one that thinks and feels this, but we definitely here for you Ray, there are a million youtube mechanics that are silent or very soft spoken, your mannerisms and how you carry and present yourself takes a mundane job done with dignity and honor, and makes it interesting and entertaining. Wouldn't be Rainman Ray if there wasn't the ramblings of times gone by.

    • @Wakeupandsniffthecoffee

      Plus his video is in focus, even in the oddest positions. I really don't know how he keeps things centered, when he can hardly see the camera screen.
      Also, his audio is great. Does he use a 🎙️ or is this all an attribute of the camera.
      Constantly sharing his thoughts is great too.
      Other TH-cam mechanics tend to fade in and out in the audio and the camera and focus work really varies.
      Many other TH-camrs, I get tired of watching, often in silence, while the focus goes in and out.
      I'm envious of his skills. I attempt to do videos of my mechanical stuff and luffa sponges growing, but just don't have the voice and the proper camera for it. I've recently been breathing life back into my Sony camcorder and a new tripod, but it's still not as good.

    • @Flakmagnet1701
      @Flakmagnet1701 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      the ramblings often lead to the interesting thoughts and facts too. Wouldn;t be the channel it is without them.
      Also...have to say... the quality of filming and editing is pretty damn good. It's interesting to go back a few years and look at some of the really early stuff top see how it has got slicker. Doubly so when you consider the guy doing the stuff is not a film tech or anything of the sort. You don;t notice good production and editing....you notice it when it's not there. Which may lead to it being taken for granted. Which it shouldn't! Its every bit as good as the spannering ( wrenching.... )

      I know this customer isn’t racing, but when I autocrossed as a younger fella, I’d replace pads and rotors that looked better than that. The problem I had was that the rotors would warp very easily after being turned. The first race after a refresh, I had to retire because the resurfaced rotors warped so bad after just a few laps. After that, I just replaced them. It cost me about $200 every few races, but the lack of warping was worth it.
      My mom is a two footed driver and is awful on brakes. I’ve had hers turned and within 5k they’re warped again. It’s easier to just replace them. Maybe this customer is just hard on brakes. I may have just done the rotors if warping was the issue, considering how good the pads looked, but then again, pads are cheap once you’re already doing the job.

    On Chrysler dodge and jeep vehicles to reset the maintenance light just turn the key into the on position and hit the accelerator pedal like 5 times fast and then turn on the engine. This work from early 2000’s to 2020’s Chrysler products. Some even have a maintenance option on the screen but this method still works.

    DO NOT use that purple brake lube on caliper pin with rubber bushing. It will cause rubber to swell. I had this happen to me and caliper pin stuck. Only used silicone based grease since, and never had problem.

      I don't know this for sure, but I suspect that the maker left the rotor screw out for a purpose. I believe that they wanted the rotor to float so that there was extra room for fitting the pads into the clips at an angle. If you look back at it, you can see the rotor moving out of the way. It probably would work better if you were not grabbing the rotor to pull the pad in. That works great on stationary rotors, but you might be making the job harder here by reducing the rotor clearance. I don't know this for sure, but it is something to think about.

    Hey Ray, Happy New Year! $900 for the oil stickers, outrageous! But, you can make your own custom stickers with your logo and whatever else you choose to put on them. Check out all the stickers available from Avery. Choose the one you want, then create the sticker in photo-shop and print as many as you want..a heck of a lot cheaper and personalized for each customer!

    Ray, nice to see that your wife wants to help you out and learn. A lot of women AND men don't know hardly anything about maintaining their vehicles. Even if it's just simple things like checking tire pressure, checking and changing oil, wheels, etc. For me, it's in my blood, most of my uncles on my Dad's side were class A mechanics, but I mostly learned from my Dad, I was always in the garage with him whenever he was working on a car, ever since I could remember. Once you have that confidence in yourself, you're more comfortable tackling the bigger jobs👍 Happy New Year to you Ray and your family😁

    Just a suggestion but you should put some lines that have cross hatches on the walkway out the door that leads to the drive in of the garage. Every time you back out, I fear someone will walk out that door and be right in the path of the vehicle. Or maybe just put a sign on the door to “stop and look” before walking out.
