I think the greatest subversion of expectations is that when we watched this for the first time we believe The Rock’s Sarge to be “Doom Guy” because he fit it well. Then it was Reaper, and everything changed after that.
I never understood the hate for this movie. This movie was actually real good for a 2005. They did the best they could with the designs. People have to understand that when you make a movie based on a game; it’s not always going to come out; the way it should.

@Solider7 depending on the game I agree that it should be close to the source material. Do the latest Doom games from 2016 onwards follow the old Dooms 🤔 What about the new Doom: Dark Ages game that is coming out soon, it's like a different sort of take on the franchise. But yeah, the purists just hate it 😂
Got a few like that from the 90s/early 2000s. This, Wing Commander, Fortress 1/2, lots of "B" level movies from that time and they all have heart where their storytelling or technical achievements may be lacking.
My head canon is that this is more of a prequel than an actual adaptation of Doom. That would explain some of the mistakes/changes they made compared from the source material like UAC is still figuring out what the hell they have discovered that is why the demons are perceived as aliens, Doom Slayer is nowhere to be found becuase his sarcophagous is still buried somewhere or he might still be in hell doing his thing, the mummy with extra chromsomes are the Makyrs.
If somehow for some reason Karl Urban and The Rock return for a sequel/movie the only thing stopping it from being a hit is the bs that's going on now a days with game adaptations.
I saw a lot of angry comments about this film, but excuse me - they won’t even make it like that now, it looked very cheerful, both then and now. Demons were replaced with mutants - so what? The only thing I didn't like was that the sergeant never turned into anyone.
ALSO, their chopper's definitely packin' heat! As for amenities? It's got a briefing area, and a retractable ramp for cargo! I know that's extra weight, but hey, it's a military aircraft. The engines will handle it. And I think it's based on the Apache because of the main landing gear. Or even the Comanche.
It would've been chefs kiss for one of them, starring in a SciFi setting, to say something like "What kind of SciFi shit is this?" when that Elevator popped up.
Major props to Karl Urban. He's truly the best actor for comic, video game, and novel adapted films/tv shows.
He would’ve been perfect as doom slayer ❤
As time passes older movies becoming more favorite than new ones
I think that tells the quality of current movies these days. The era of remakes and reboots.
Doom was fun/bad movie, now we just have bad movies that waste our time.
