I personally like the JJ-Prise, but I like this just as much. I'd probably give it a taller neck, TMP-style torpedo launcher, and windows for a VIP lounge behind the bridge module.
Best Trek ship design in a loooong time. Very faithful to TOS (never expected a gold dish, and was happy to see cylindrical nacelles) but feasibly fits into Discovery's fleet. Love it
A beautiful design. It's a shame Eaglemoss has very poor QC, though. I wouldn't tolerate those sloppy errors. It's hard to get decent Star Trek figures & ships that are of good quality these days. I want to get these but I won't when the boxes they come in are made better than the ships themselves.
That is why I buy the model kits: so that I can make the ships look right. I started building models again, after a friend gave me an AMT Model of the Original Enterprise. I repainted it to match the filming model in the Smithsonian and last summer William Shatner signed it for me at Montreal ComicCon. Thanks for using the POV camera angle for the review. It would have been neat if they added phasers to the secondary hull's "belly" and above the shuttlebay. In TOS (Balance of Terror I think) there was mentioning of amidship & aft phasers. And, up to 6 torpedo tube launchers.

I. LOVE. THIS. SHIP! I had mine on preorder and was really looking forward to it. Of course, there is the usual trepidation resulting from Eaglemoss’s difficulties with QC. Mine arrived intact, with just a few minor window misalignments. Overall, I’m very happy with mine! Mind you, I have not even seen one episode of STD, but when I saw some clips of the “E” appearing in the closing scene of the first season here on TH-cam, I knew I was going to have to have a model of her. Gorgeous! I think this is a worthy redesign and honestly, this would have been a more satisfying transition from TOS to TMP than the refit was. I love the refit now, but I was PISSED when I got my first look at her because I had no idea they had changed her at all! Kindof a shock to my 15 year old psyche. She grew on me though, and has taken her place in my mind as the “Enterprise”. I actually think she has been bumped from her number 2 favorite position (behind good ‘ol #1 TOS) by this one now. Refit slips to number three. Sorry old girl! Eaves nailed it in my mind. Kudos to him and those who contributed to this version! Also, Captain Foley I appreciate the close up view format. Now had they put the series in the early to mid 2245 timeline when the Enterprise was originally constructed then this configuration would work better. This could have been the original design of the first generation Constitution class. I've seen different fan interpretations on how the Connie class originally looked. She could be fresh out of the Construction dock and commanded by Captain Robert April. Then later on the Connies get uprated and start looking like how they should look in the original series.
I think the most interesting thing is that the deflector dish on this is a proper copper color, but on all their TOS Enterprises, they use a kind of orangey color for the deflector dish. Also, I'm noticing a weird, what feels like an extra space in between "NCC-" and "1701" on all the hull markings and I've only noticed that space on the Eaglemoss models and the Anovos "studio scale" models and only on the DSC Enterprises. Weird. For clarification, I say this mostly based on there seeming to be more space on the right side of the dash than the left.
oh yeah the excelsior fends on that platform on the impulses deck i like, the dry dock mornings to attach to like Enterprise B did in dry dock. gives a real secure lock on to the ship too compared to the older ships
7:28 I think that's supposed to be the saucer edge navigation lights like it is on the TOS Enterprise but placed in the wrong position. If the one I get has misaligned paint I'll probably scrape the paint off carefully and paint the windows carefully. I'll also paint the missing details on the bottom of the secondary hull, the yellow and gray ones.
I got mine as well, without the magazine. I was told by email they were supposed to get them today (Jan 14) and begin shipping them. I like this model and, has been said, it is how the JJ-Prise should have looked. It is a mondernized version of the ship that respects the original design. My only wish was that the final version of this ship had respected the John Eaves did with the nacelle struts and kept them straight instead of angled.

Question... is there a slight wobble on the saucer of your enterprise? As if it’s very slightly loose? I know Irish Trekke mentioned his did and so does mine. I wonder if they wall had this issue.

I really love this design of the enterprise, so I had to get this model i had it on preorder for some time.to me I think its perfect for prime, for me I like this far more than the Tos and i love the tos one and been a Trekkie for a very long time lol
Just received mine yesterday. I had the same issue with the misaligned pods (always a potential problem), but it turned out to be easily tweaked. Overall, it’s a reasonable-quality rendition of a reasonable design update - light years better than the JJ version, but still not quite up to Jeffries’ original. To these aging eyes, at least. 😊
Its a nice design however its just another refit version. They should've just upgraded the TOS version with details & left the general design appearance intact. Axanar Constitution is an excellent example of that.
I think it has the best of both worlds. Front and back of the neck are parallel so it looks like the refits, the slanted nacelle struts feel like the refit and the barrel shaped engineering hull looks better than the conical shape of the TOS. Thankfully though, it doesn't have the weird rectangular nacelles of the refit.
I was totally with you about the barrel shape of the hull and everything until you said you didn't like the more rectilinear nacelles. I think they go better with the streamlined, swept-back, and sharper edged look that the refit Style has, but in any case whether you're nacelles are round tubes or Art Deco finned rectilinear shapes, I think swept nacelles are always the way to go. Unless you are trying to say your ship is a prime constitution-class, then you have no choice but to have straight struts.
Dale Stafford The problem I have with the refit nacelles isn't so much with their overall shape but with their detailing. It is just not very clear where the collectors are and where the coils are which is why I kind of prefer the Shenzhou / Europa style angular nacelles. As far as the struts are concerned, they can remain straight as far as I'm concerned. Those are the least of my problems with the TOS Connie. My biggest gripe has always been the neck. With the refit, when they introduced the torpedo module they kind of fixed it but the tall, slender, thin at the bottom, thick at the top neck never sat well with me.

I bet this was put in the XL line because they'll ultimately want to sell a "full set" of Enterprises & hero ships (or promote the product series as such) and having one missing (at least in the non-Kelvin lineage) would seem incomplete.
i never understood why the shits were so brightly lit in space if space is supposed to be dark, unless passing a sun. shits should be totally dark but windows and lights on the ships to be honest it would look so much more cooler
The box is using the normal design because, according to CBS's insistence, this is Prime Enterprise. No, I can't keep a straight face. Ship design: I like it overall. I don't like the split in the pylons and I don't like how pointy the tail end of the nacelles are. Other than that, a fine design. The model: I'm really disappointed with Eaglemoss in some of these flaws. This isn't a $10 model. I'd say the paint is definitely missing with the windows and wobbly and misaligned parts is just poor quality control and there shouldn't be that problem at these prices.
I'd repair that gap with epoxy putty. Sells over here in the UK as "milliput". It's two part and when mixed at a reasonable temperature handles like plasticene if a little sticky. The stickiness is best dealt with by wetting the fingers and any spatula like tools you use. The problem then is matching the paint colour.
It's an awfully small model to worry about that small of a gap. I can see you doing that on a large model where it was very apparent, but not at this small scale.

you know when you angled it like that at 2:13 like that, it hit me, its an NX enterprise, like compare this to the NX refit that doug did for an episode, as this looks like something that would have been built 10 to 15 years after the NX refit. As its got the same paintjob, the same details, the same general layout, and even the pylons look the same its literally like an NX ifed enterprise, as when i see the side profile at 2:56 of the ship all I can think is I cant wait for some of those great 3D modelers who used to do bridge commander ships to model this in and then push the neck and the pylons back to straight out and fix the design and give it a more classic paintjob as to remove that connotation and make it look much more prime universe ship as the way this seems is like you go from NX, to this in 35 to 40 years, to then the refit enterprise B, and the thing is, the older I get, the more I wish they had kept the simplicity of the original design intact with the refit from the movies like it just overdetailed the design, and this seems to be going in that wrong direction all over again. like one of the key memories I have of the NX design is that someone had made it and ported into starfleet command and I played with it against a modern ship, and it fit right in like it just doesnt feel of its era, like a classic car that's been ruined by restomooding, rather than enhanced and made better but still of its era which is what this ship really needs, like someone needs to strip the paint, pull the pylons and the neck back and detail it right and it should look fine, but as it is, its of the NX not the Prime Universe which if I remember correctly is in the JJ given archers dog and the NX ships are openly mentioned in that.
At 10:10, looks like they fudged something up on the top of the secondary hull between the struts and shuttle bay, looks like a folded over decal or a blob of paint, and is the top edge of it lifting?
I agree. I'm still amazed at the quality they provide for the price. They may be great at a distant glance, but up close there are so many problems. Sloppy and missing paint, obvious gaps, bent nacelles...

Its a good transition from 22nd century to 23rd century ship architecture and then it gets refitted to become the enterprise we all know and love. You all act like it hasn’t been refitted before countless times under different captains. Relax lol.
Not having Very Dosco on the box will encourage more people to buy it. Not as die hard attached to the Original's specifics so it serms a sufficient proximation.
Regarding your presentation method, I consider the way you've presented it in previous video reviews to be superior to this one. Waiting for the camera to focus and seeing the model constantly tremble (since humand hands can't hold anything perfectly still) became kind of irksome as the video went along. I believe the editing of contextually correct photos to highlights point of interests was just the better way to go, and I suggest you keep using that. That said, thank you for the presentation of your new DiscoPrise. Regarding model quality, I don't get why Eaglemoss keeps indenting windows and misaligning paint. If they can't align them, they might as well avoid doing window indents. >_
I will fight you over those nacelles that are bulging in the front and then Slimmer towards the rear, not only does not really make any engineering sense, it's homely. Everything else about that design is pretty good though.
But... Why invent that now? Maybe on a different class of ship, but why add that to an existing one that never had it before, therefore didn't need it before?
"Discoprise" LOL. Personally, this and Captain Pike are the two ONLY things I like from STD. But I like this take on the connie, wish it could have been used instead of that JJprise monstrosity.
He talked about that on a previous Captain's Log, one of the first ones that were filmed in this room. I don't have the link directly with me but if you go back to when he's giving a tour of the new ready room he gives all the information about it.
I'd rather see this one shrunk down to around 800 feet and declared the final version of the Daedalus class, with that model in Sisko's office just being a concept model that was ultimately rejected (perfectly normal thing with ship designs).
Foley, why are you having such a hard time with Eaglemoss lately? Since both you and Samuel do the reviews of the ships for Eaglemoss, they should do much more to help out to make it easier to purchase.
So, If I make a You Tube, fail fan series Star Trek, can I design a whole new Enterprise NCC-1701? I know you probably think I am joking or being sarcastic, but I am not. LOL in another 15 years their will at least probably be 2 to 3 more designs. And why I am at it can I take a cultural racist shot at making the Klingons over into pseudo Native Americans, and or Middle eastern Arabs. I mean TOS had them looking like Mexican Bandito's and now Discovery had them looking like Afro Americans crossed with Lobsters. What is sad though is I actually do like this Enterprise design. That stand is a horrid design, just make a classic black or grey stand that fits in a notch on the bottom of the secondary hull. Not a STD fan but this ship is an excellent design (maybe my favorite Enterprise). My head canon names this the Continental Class War Ship, 12 were commissioned to be front line fast response Heavy Battle Cruisers and only a couple survived the Klingon War.

I will defend the JJ-Prise from now till the day I die. I love that ship. But even I will admit, I wish this was used instead as I can't help but love what they did. Near perfection. Though fill in those holes in the nacelle struts.

Dont Eaglemoss have someone checking these models before they ship? Quality control anyone. Main reason i no longer buy from them..not worth the price.
All they need to say is Doscovery takes place in an alternate time line or is a reboot, and i will be totally fine with what ever they do. But so long as they say its prime, im not having it.

I REALLY hate the azteccing that happened with the Discoprise. The entire premise around mid-23rd century ships was that azteccing wasn't a thing.

They should make a dry dock stand and the enterprise magnetically levitates in it. How cool would that be?

This quality is absolutely not worth $75! It looks like a cheap toy and seems to be built like one.

Since they couldn't use the original Enterprise I think this is a great version and IMHO equals TOS morning movies version.
Not bad looking. I'm glad they added detail showing the torpedo tubes and phaser turrets coming out from the sensor dome where the original didn't.

At 10:10, looks like they fudged something up on the top of the secondary hull between the struts and shuttle bay, looks like a folded over decal or a blob of paint, and is the top edge of it lifting?
Not a bad design, but as usual Eaglemoss cranks out garbage.
I agree. I'm still amazed at the quality they provide for the price. They may be great at a distant glance, but up close there are so many problems. Sloppy and missing paint, obvious gaps, bent nacelles...

Its a good transition from 22nd century to 23rd century ship architecture and then it gets refitted to become the enterprise we all know and love. You all act like it hasn’t been refitted before countless times under different captains. Relax lol.

Thinking it looks like a combination original Enterprise and Enterprise refit.
Not having Very Dosco on the box will encourage more people to buy it.
Not as die hard attached to the Original's specifics so it serms a sufficient proximation.
Regarding your presentation method, I consider the way you've presented it in previous video reviews to be superior to this one. Waiting for the camera to focus and seeing the model constantly tremble (since humand hands can't hold anything perfectly still) became kind of irksome as the video went along.
I believe the editing of contextually correct photos to highlights point of interests was just the better way to go, and I suggest you keep using that.
That said, thank you for the presentation of your new DiscoPrise.
Regarding model quality, I don't get why Eaglemoss keeps indenting windows and misaligning paint. If they can't align them, they might as well avoid doing window indents. >_
According to the folks at Eaglemoss, there is going to be a different version of this ship that will be part of the Discovery Collection.
actually just thinking if the engines fall off, why not get the Xl version of the refit and put its engines on it and see how it looks?
I don’t like the Eagle Moss stands! The ships should be just mounted on a pole up through the bottom, I think it would look much better that way. IMO

I will fight you over those nacelles that are bulging in the front and then Slimmer towards the rear, not only does not really make any engineering sense, it's homely. Everything else about that design is pretty good though.

Also, I like the “Step-down” on the saucer. It’s like a targeting deck for the phaser operators.
But... Why invent that now? Maybe on a different class of ship, but why add that to an existing one that never had it before, therefore didn't need it before?

"Discoprise" LOL. Personally, this and Captain Pike are the two ONLY things I like from STD. But I like this take on the connie, wish it could have been used instead of that JJprise monstrosity.

Woah, Discovery actually did something that was very not completely bad for once.
I'd rather see this one shrunk down to around 800 feet and declared the final version of the Daedalus class, with that model in Sisko's office just being a concept model that was ultimately rejected (perfectly normal thing with ship designs).
You wouldn't want to be in that room with the round window if it's so close to the thruster nozzles.
I guess we will get to see more of the ship in season 2 that starts next week
Foley, why are you having such a hard time with Eaglemoss lately? Since both you and Samuel do the reviews of the ships for Eaglemoss, they should do much more to help out to make it easier to purchase.

So, If I make a You Tube, fail fan series Star Trek, can I design a whole new Enterprise NCC-1701? I know you probably think I am joking or being sarcastic, but I am not. LOL in another 15 years their will at least probably be 2 to 3 more designs. And why I am at it can I take a cultural racist shot at making the Klingons over into pseudo Native Americans, and or Middle eastern Arabs. I mean TOS had them looking like Mexican Bandito's and now Discovery had them looking like Afro Americans crossed with Lobsters.
What is sad though is I actually do like this Enterprise design.

That stand is a horrid design, just make a classic black or grey stand that fits in a notch on the bottom of the secondary hull. Not a STD fan but this ship is an excellent design (maybe my favorite Enterprise). My head canon names this the Continental Class War Ship, 12 were commissioned to be front line fast response Heavy Battle Cruisers and only a couple survived the Klingon War.

I will defend the JJ-Prise from now till the day I die. I love that ship. But even I will admit, I wish this was used instead as I can't help but love what they did. Near perfection. Though fill in those holes in the nacelle struts.
