Quick note, these guns are directly supported by Batocera v39 (currently in beta). The USB hub is not necessary, the IR sensors can be daisy chained as the USB C cables simply provide power. Of course you'll need to add 3 short USB C to USB C cables. 😉
When you say directly supported, is it literally as easy as plugging them in and it working straight away? I'm always skeptical that things are going to be that easy 😅 Goddamn it you're right. That would have been a way easier solution! I don't know why I didn't consider daisy chaining them like that. Even so, there's still a lot of wires haha!
@@RetroDodo I've added Retro Shooter light gun support in Batocera for v39 (actually in release candidate before stable release). My colleague added the calibration for the gun. It's working out of the box, no configuration. Batocera is an OS dedicated for retrogaming with a plug-and-play experience. You simply need to add your ROMs, your BIOS, tweak to your taste, connect one controller (to exit games), calibrate your guns and enjoy. That's it. We are supporting over 10 different light guns (all this information is written on our wiki). I've worked more than a year and half on bringing light gun support for the easiest experience ever, including the Sinden Lightgun. All I can suggest is to avoid premade images done of Batocera, you will encounter too many issues. Oh, and it's free/open source.
@@Tovarichtch Lightgun integration with Batocera has been great! My only complaint is the requirement to always pull out a keyboard to exit a game. It kind of ruins the "arcade" feel of it all. I'd love to see a workaround in the future that allows the lightguns to have "start+select" -type exit functionality!
Great video, thank you for taking the time to look at our guns. 1. the senors can be daisy chained together, so one USB to USB-C to power them all. 2. we do have a user manual, you need to scan the QR code that is included in the box, you may have missed it. 3. we love your advice and will still keep improving. We use the console hardware to keep the price lower. But will definitely look into your advice of a more powerful console. 4. I think you are a little low on the recommendation...10/10 would have been better 😜
No problem! I had a lot of fun with them and I'm hoping to tinker with it in the future to integrate it into my setup a bit more seamlessly! Yeah, for some reason the idea to daisy chain the sensors together like that completely went over my head. That would make it a little bit easier to get running! I saw a couple of people saying that there's a QR code in the box but I couldn't find one for the life of me. I definitely didn't throw out any paperwork or anything so is it possible I just didn't get one? The console at the moment is awesome with how it's so easy to get going with it, but having more power to play a wider selection of more demanding 3D games would be incredible. Even if the more powerful variant was more expensive, I'm sure that it would appeal to a lot of people! Haha! With enough slight modifications to the current setup you guys have, it might one day get there!
@theretroshooter Yes Yes Yes! Please add more power to the console. I would pay more for a better experience. That's the only reason why I haven't pulled the trigger. I do love the lightgun and will be planning to buy a set but use my pc instead until you improve the console. Retro Shooter is so far the closest and best lightgun out there IMO. You are almost there! Keep up the great work!
As someone who has bought and used both Sinden guns and Retro Shooter (Pandora's Box) I can totally say go for Retro Shooter instead of Sinden. Sinden guns are absolutely ridiculous to configure and use. There is no tech support with Sinden and unless you are an above average computer expert, you will struggle to use Sinden guns. Retro Shooter is plug & play. Use a little velcro to hold the bottom sensors.
Just finished watching At Home with the Buckleys and was happy to see RetroDoDo icon in comments section. I think it's 1st time two of my subscriptions have collided.
Great video. If you’re ever light on new content, it’s worth reviewing the Sinden gun on Batocera. I didn’t particularly enjoy the experience on Raspberry PI but on Batocera it’s fantastic and pretty much plug and play.
This setup reportedly works much better when hooked up to a mini PC and an external preconfigured lightgun/game drive. Zero lag and better accuracy if you don’t use the Pandora thingy.
I still have my old guncon, but i can't use it right now, as i don't have a crt. It's a shame we can't get a hardware solution, such as what's used on the wii, to simulate a crt in hardware, but it seems like it would be prohibitively expensive, which is a shame as it's always preferential to use original hardware where possible.
The bezel of my display is about 3 mm wide. No chance to stick anything on there, I guess. I had the Sinden Lightgun and it was a pain in the ass. Now I'm considering the MX24, but I have no idea how I'm supposed to attach those sensors, unfortunately.
I was interested in this product. Thank you for your in depth review. I was considering buying this until i saw the price. Too expensive for me personally.
Excellent coverage of the Retro Shooter Pandora's Box Light Guns. I know this video is older, but how can we add the newer games (Mad Dog, Revolution X, etc)? I updated my Box, but they're not there. I bought the set-up just before they updated the gun muzzles & added the 2 extra sensors. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!
I was seriously thinking about buying these guns for pc use and using them with the arcade punks compilation. But you say they don't. work very well. :( Now I have doubts.
Are these usable for an Android based handheld/phone (using a USB C Hub with HDMI ports, etc)? The idea being an easily transportable arcade experience I've done it with that Switch compatible Mario Racing Wheel and some fight sticks by connecting them to a Samsung Galaxy phone and air mouse pen with a USB C hub a couple years ago (some emulator specific controller set up was necessary, but only the first time), and I've found that it can be good for parties, etc
One critique I would like to share. I did not like that this console did not come with audio out. The sound has to rely on the HDMI connection and to the monitor speaker. Most of my monitors do not come with speakers so I end up playing with no sound.

Considering buying the gun package and PC extra and trying to find someone to build me a mini game pc that runs all the light gun games well alongside a full retro emulator set up of standard controller games there must be someone who can do this in the UK that can order from or ask for a custom build
Has anyone tried using the pc adapter on a ps5? Wonder if it works, if it’s just simulating a joystick input I think it might. Would be great for the HotD remake
You're saying pre-installed games in your video, but Retro Shooter claims on their web page they don't include games. I probably already have most if not all of the games, the problem is to fish them all out. We are talking what, 5K roms? Who knows if the names of the roms are the same as Retro Shooter requires and the revisions, then how do I go about proper directory structure, and so on?
I know it's not the point but I just want to throw this out there; the first time you play VR, you realize just how limited lightguns really are. VR gunplay is so much fun.
🤣 separated because it looks like a firearm hahahaha. And the bezels on my oled screen are way too thin to mount those sensors like that. Still not sure about these or I’ll just spend the money for some that are arcade quality.
Avoid this like the plague. The system is horribly underpowered and so laggy it's impossible to play anything but the simplest game. The company's customer service is awful and the guns aren't accurate at all. You'll be really disappointed.
I understand they aimed for a plug-and play solution, but the historical performance issues of Pandora’s Box definitely doesn’t put their guns in the best light. PC is definitely the way to go
I still have doubts. Sinder light gun or retroshooter. I mainly care about the lack of lag. The retroshooter also throws me off with its technique. Infrared sensors are old technology. I also don't want to spend extra money on special upgrades (RETROBEAST 2tb). I would like to play old arcade games with my brother. We have a projector but no guns yet I'm asking for advice, please

yes add more power i would buy in in an instant and also looked on your site there out of stock and say they come with no games and sd card?
@TheRetroShooter does this work for MiSTer FPGA (I know that gun4ir does)?

We are all made of stars is probably my favourite song of yours. Good album as well.
thanks, Baldie, great stuff as always
It would be cool to play Time Crisis 2 again. I spent a ton of time playing that in the arcades.
Yea but non of these guns slide cocks back and forth so you can really get that same experience from the arcade.

I remember these days😊This is acctually pretty cool. But you may need to add additional parts. Still a great idea
I have this box and I love it

I hope they improve the pandora hardware. The idea of a all in one kit is great.
Best practical review yet! Still on the fence though. Frustrating they did not choose a better 3D supporting SOC. They could have for same cost.

Now I have doubts.
Love the product, however 300$ (233 on the flash sale) is extremely overpriced
Check out Sinden Lightguns, not as expensive and just as functional ٩( ᐛ )و
Also the console specs are really mediocre for that price point.
Really? Compared to spending about $1,000 or more on 2 Sinden guns and a PC?
Man, if this thing has Music Gun Gun 2 on it, I'm getting it!

Helpfull vid just subbed..pc nube here.. can i ask how much a pc would cost to run the more advanced games?
Does anyone know if the guns shoot IR lasers out of them. I'm wondering if it will work with the smokless range by laserammo?

Frigging hell, they would bring these out after I've just bought all the stuff to build two samco guns! Lol

You can add games easily to this system
We’re getting close to perfection, but I think this just isn’t it for me.
Are these game’s licensed or just downloaded Ron’s slapped in a console? Not judging, just want to know if it’s legit or status quo for retro gaming?
Definitely not I mean it’s officially being sold but no way they got any of those games legally
