I really know why the Malibu is such a successful plane through all the years BUT I DON'T know why on earth they didn't switch back to the Continental engine after finding out there's nothing wrong with it. I have never flown the Lycoming it but my Continental fires up every time within maybe 2 rotations of the propeller - you could think it has a fadec like the Diamond airplanes have. The guy with the Mirage at our airfield was cranking like crazy again the last time I saw him. And not only does it start very well - it runs very smoothly the second it comes alive. Almost no smoke. I am super happy! Did I mention 50% less fuel consumtion for the same performance?
Huh, that's interesting, old pilots I talked to said that the Continental had a lot of problems with piston pins and crank bearings and the Lycoming they put in around 1989 was better. Did piper put in different continental later on?
@@benwilsonMMA All engines have problems and everyone you ask will have a story to tell. And actually there is another Continental engine (550) to put in but that is not the point. As long as I am saving 5gal every hour or 50€ I guess after 1000 hours I can do a lot of renovation in the engine compartment for free if needed. I could add that those old pilots told me the Continental is a lot smoother that the Lycoming but I don't care much what people say. I enjoy the added range which means spending less time on the fuel pump.
Yes indeed very nice paint scheme which makes this such a Beautiful Airplane !! Pressurised comfort and plenty of Power with Good performance NO Wonder it's a very popular Single Engine performance Airplane with a Good Reputation !!
