Saving Crumbling Old Farm Building… TIMELAPS

  • In this video we tackle an old brick staircase. The bricks are falling off and the stairs are dangerous to use. Specially for my daughter that has a special genetic condition. Under the ugly bricks we uncovered something fantastic and unexpected.
We also renovate the tractor garage. This building is screaming for attention as the paint are crumbling and the cladding are rotting away. This turned out to quite a transformation.
June was such a busy month for us so we had to cut he video in two or it would have been two hours long. That means that it soon will come a part two so stay put.

I would suggest you replace the hydraulic oil in that back hoe asap, it’s full of water and you will ruin the hyd pump if you continue to run it . Love the red garage nice job

If anyone wonders, the roof tiles are most likely 'Eternit' a 90%cement/10%Asbestos mix that was a popular siding and roofing material from the 50s and well into the 70s. The Norwegian Eternit factory closed in 78 or 79, because even after they switched to an Asbestos-free mix, no one wanted it any more. You can still find it on older buildings today because... it lasts an eternity.

They stopped being produced for many reasons. Including economic ones, it is too cheap and has existed for too long. It is not profitable for the companies that produce them and that maintain and repair roofs. And it is also clear that the problem with which the roof deteriorates is the trees above it. There is moss and moisture, the roof is not blown through and does not dry. You can even see that there is more moss where the branches hang down. You need to cut down all the branches around the roof so that sunlight gets on it and it blows through.

The main enemy of wood is moisture, It was necessary to make a gap between vertical beams and stone steps. But it can still be fixed. File the beams from below so that they do not rot.

Based on the color of the wood, it seems that he uses pressure-treated wood, so it will probably be fine.

You have done so much in the last year, love that you've discovered the stone stairs, the is probably so much hidden away under years of changes and foliage.👍

Always things to do. You do so much and work full-time and have kids The Barn/Tractor storage area looks better. I’m sure that makes you feel better and makes the farm look better.
I was wondering about the chicken feed. The new feed was put on top of the old feed. If the old feed was pored out of the container and then the new feed pored in, then the old feed could be put on top of the new feed in the container. If new feed keeps getting added on top of the old feed eventually the old feed will become rancid and affect the new feed. Just an idea.
Enjoying the videos. Good editing, which I know takes a lot of time.

In Canada, you just set the scrap metal out by the road and someone will eventually come along to take it to the junkyard. He can earn a few dollars

    • @Norwegianfarmlife
      @Norwegianfarmlife  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

In Norway you would probably get a fine for littering if I did that. The local recycling center also charges a fee for taking in scrap metal so it is not easy earning anything of that here. 😭

For me buildings on a farm should be read with white trim. I am also under the impression that buildings with darker color last longer as they dry more when the sun is out. I really want to do the room but for now it is not leaking and that means that there are more urgent things I need to spend that money on. One day. 😊🤠

always use high grade bolts on your equipment grade5 or better also may i say check for lead paint you have younger children so grinding the old paint and not collecting the dust raises the chance of exposure or contaminating a well if you have one. good content

Thanks for the advice.👍 My well is located high up in the hill side so we don’t have any issues with run offs from the farm and we also don’t need a pump so it is a completely free water source. The old farmers knew what they where doing. 🤠👍

    Hej, Eric.
My name is Alex. I am from Ukraine. I was looking another guys videos about farming and yesterday you tube recommend your videos.
I am happy about your content. Very interesting. I already subscribed 😊.
But I don't understand why you make SO many video lists 😭
I opened your latest video. Then second video TH-cam open also your video.
But video number 3 TH-cam give from another youtuber. Not from your TH-cam channel.
You loosing subscribers and views because of this.
You can make 2 video lists. One on English. Another on Norsk. I think you vil get much better effect for you channel, than now.
I like also Andrew Camarata you tube channel. He is best one. Look how he managed videos, for example video lists.
    Good luck! Best regards!

I have taken your advice and have now only one playlist with all the videos in the correct viewing order. I removed all Norwegian videos some time ago to not confuse viewers and TH-cam. I hove that my videos bring you some joy during the dark times in your country 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

Why would you apply red paint of dried up paint that is already peeling away ???
First you scrape off the old paint, to provide a robust surface to which the new paint can bond.
It's like if you have a rusting lawnmower, you don't just paint over the rust. You first remove the rust and then apply new paint.
    This hurts my eyes.
