Your daughter is lucky to have a great family, she looks really happy and that is definitely a blessing. I have been around someone who has suffered with epileptic fits and I know how helpless it made me feel. I hope that it doesn't happen again for as long as possible. Please give her a huge hug from South Africa.❤️
Really hard work One person himself placing and moving videos Same person bringing cement mixer and cement himself pours concrete Same person is bringing the reinforcement bars Taking care of farm And then compiles and edits videos Keep going 👍❤️
Hi Erik, if you need to place concrete again in cold weather, dont stress. I was a materials engineer in the British army. In the Falkland Islands we used hot water in the concrete mix and covered the finished concrete with insulation, rockwool inside plastic, just like a duvet. Leave it on for the first 7 days. Use this method whenever the temperature reaches 3° on a falling thermometer. You can continue down to -5° without any problems. Keep up the good work! Best wishes to the family.
Great to see your efforts in restoring the farm buildings. Dedication and commitment are very evident. I wish you both all the best in your endeavours from Scotland.
You are doing an excellent job on capping the barn wall, looks like it is turning out quite well. If you have a farm, there is never a problem keeping busy, just takes time and patience. I wish the best for you and family, will keep your daughter in my prayers, thank you for the update, enjoyed watching, stay dry.
If I could have a wish come true.... I would wish I could live in Norway....the USA just isn't fun anymore... keep up the good work... you have a beautiful life 🙂
Very nice video. Thank you for sharing the part about your family and what you are dealing with. I believe that what is important in life is not the things we accumulate, but who we are being in each and every moment with those around us. Thanks again.
Thanks. Most can see how hard I work on the videos but my wife’s contribution to the farm is often difficult to see on the videos. As our daughter require on adult at here at all hour’s day and night the truth is that the videos you see and the farm we have would not have been if I did not have such an amazing wife. ❤️
Hi Eric, I am a new to your channel for a while and saw mostly old videos a couple of years old and I am enjoying them. I watched the one that you talked about your high blood pressure and diabetes. Which you got rid of by weight loss and controlling your sleep apnea with a cpap. That is terrific!! Now I am seeing recent videos only 10 days old. You had mentioned the farm was a struggle and mabe you should move on; im glad you didn't, which shows you are a conquer!! God bless and take care for you and your family from your California subscriber 🙏 🤲
Utrolig! What an exciting project to restore such an amazing old barn. I LOVE those thick stone walls. It will be beautiful and functional when you've finished it.
estimado, muchas gracias por mostrar la vida tal cual es ( osea como corresponde, cosa muy rara en estos tiempos), espero que les vaya muy bien en lo venidero. saludos desde Concepción, Chile
This is amazing i live in a small village in germany. We have the same buildings that were abandoned about 50 years ago. This is realy inspiring me to do the same like you. Keep it up and it will look awesome in the future. ;)
If you're really building everything yourself or with your family, it's incredibly hard work. But the result brings great satisfaction, self-confidence and respect for what we have built ourselves ! 🌅
Dear family I can only say that your community is extremely strong. Is it the country with the extreme weather conditions? I don't know because I don't live there. I am from northern Germany. I too have had ups and downs in my life, but the fact that you show us the TH-cam community what happens to you with all the bad luck and mishaps makes your video unique and great.
Hi Eric, I've been waiting for your video, how exciting to start the barn. You must be happy with your first part of the ring beam. Doing it on your own is a huge job, but looks how far you've come already. 👍
Rain is the worst. I would take a step back and cover that whole floor inside the foundation with 4” of gravel. You will need it later and it will make your life so much easier now. New subscriber and this reminds me of my younger self!
Nice progress on the barn foundation. I hope the concrete was wet enough to fully cure and harden. It needs the water to make the proper chemical bond and not stay in a half way state between powder and solid. I wonder why you did not clear the way on the side of the barn that leads uphill a bit more, so you can drive the concrete mixer and bags up there on the tractor and then pour it down from the top. Seems like that would have made the work a lot easier and quicker, especially if you did the back wall first and worked your way forward from there.
Low cement water ratio is directly related to higher concrete strength, and reduced chrikich in the cured concrete.. as long as the cement is not dry powdery it will cure fine. The reason that wet concrete is used in modern buildings is that the formwork and rebar require god flowabliety, especially narrow walls and pillars. Flow additives are used to avoid high water cement ratio and still get acceptable flowabilty . Do not over saturate with water it makes for bad concrete. If you do pouring on stages skore up the concrete where you will add more to ,brush away the cement skin layer. Before it is hardned. when continuing, do a layer of stronger mix on the cured surface like 1part cement 2 part sand one part aggregate. Then do the normal ratio forward. Also when pouring on stones you can brush a 1cement /2 morter sand slurry on them to increase bite.
You are doing a great job my friend and I am no expert but a little more editing would show the same results more effectively you are a craftsman you do the world a favour good job
Oh boy are you lucky! If you were attempting this rebuild in Wales 🏴 now, you'd have to cease because of that little bat! Interesting to see how similar the construction is to our old mills and dwellings all over Wales! My home in Wales has 700 mm walls with a very similar construction!.😊
Bats love barn attics. He will probably get EU-funding for the barn. Had to evict a few who stayed in the chimney at my mother in laws, and started to make a rackus, when I was making a fire...
The original barn wall’s were properly mortar layered stone, with what looked like concrete sill or capping blocks. So why didn’t you finish the top’s of stone walls, by bedding those finishing off stone with mortar. As the infills and especially the corners of the concrete plates are critical. For securing the roof and the trueness and pitch if needed.
Thick concrete on top of dry stacked rock. NO! Thin pour a few buckets as internal chinking with thick concrete on top. Now all you can do is some surface chinking.. some walls have some, most none. Now you need 85 #4 8' tall rebar vertically installed. You've near zero horizontal stability. Spend next summer with a chinking pump and fill those walls with mortar. It'll help with structural rigidity, warmth, and keep bugs out.
yeah excactly , i worked on conctruction with my father I was making concrete and he was making stone walls, what he did right here is very wrong and bad...that's not at all structual and could collapse. The least he can do now is fiil the emty space between the rocks with concrete it reinforces it .
You should consider stopping at the nearest Felleskjøpet, or Biltema(I think there's one in Ørsta) and pick up a 'Krafse' Best tool ever to scoop sand out of a tracktor bucket and evening it on the road. The Cigman rangefinder is a neat tool. Want one, but can't justify the expense.
Jeg tenkte også på krafse. En rive er ikke det beste for å flytte på jord eller grus. En krafse med en bøy på enden av håndtaket hjelper med grepet. Fint med en spiss krafse også for å drenere vannet fra veien ut til grøfta.
Just found this Chanel , part of my family came to Canada from eather Norway or Finland, last name was Larick ,or Larrick wonder if you have ever heard eather one .
Here in the US it’s becoming popular to place bat houses in trees when you find them on your property. They were likely roosting in the barn rafters years ago before it fell. Giving them a new home on your property will hopefully keep your interactions to a minimum as bats carry a ton of disease. But they’re an important part of the local ecosystem. As a plus, they eat mosquitoes!
Bygg en fladdermus holk . Du slipper få in fladdermössen i huset och Fladdermössen kommer att utrota alla elaka insekter i dit område . En Fladdermus äter i snitt 1 dl mygg och insekter / dygn 🙂
You have saved the stone walls for sure. Have you got any plans for the tower section, do you know what it was used for? Even with the rain you have done an epic amount of work, much more than I thought possible working alone. Wow, can't wait to see the next update, take care and enjoy your family time.❤️
The "tower" is a silo where they kept silage as feed for the winter. There is even a little corn chipper that still sits out in the middle of one of the fields, so it makes sense that they made corn silage on the farm at some point. I guess they could have used grass to make silage too, as some years it might be very hard to get enough sunny days to make enough hay for the winter season.
Sorry to hear about your daughter having a seizure. She looks happy and active. Thank you for wearing masks when doing all the dusty work with the concrete and the chicken coop. Your lungs appreciate not getting all that exposure. 😊
This is my first time watching your channel, The carnivore diet or way of eating can greatly help your daughter with her seizures, please when you have time research the vast benefits of eating this way not only for your daughter but your whole family too. If you should want more information I would be happy to share.
My barn is just a foundation now, it was too far gone to repair. Try to be wary with storing cement outdoors in any greater lenght of time, the bags can turn solid from air moisture alone..
Hi, let the cat free because it doesn't run away from you, it's used to it, it's ok, I like the way you work, I'm following you from Northern Ireland, show the sheep when you have time, please!
The barn foundation is interesting. How is it built? Did the original builders use morter or cement along with field stone to build this foundation? The windows are also interesting in that the window walls are tapered.
The barn is built on bedrock using big square stones of granite. No mortar or cement is used to build this structure. The mortar you see in the video is just on half of the building and only applied on the inside to keep that room from being drafty. They have built like this for thousands of years in Norway and many of these structures still stand. The only danger to a structure like this is trees. Roots in between the rocks slowly push walls like these out until it collapses. The shape of the windows is to let more light in as the walls are almost a meter thick. 😊👍
Your daughter is lucky to have a great family, she looks really happy and that is definitely a blessing. I have been around someone who has suffered with epileptic fits and I know how helpless it made me feel. I hope that it doesn't happen again for as long as possible. Good tips, but concrete will never properly cure at -5° ... unless you're talking centigrade.
Even then I wouldn't recommend it.

The soupier the concrete the more it will get down in the nooks and cranies better, i see toward the end u were indeed making it wetter, good
276k views på andre videoen! Gratulerer!!

just use simple small stones for "spacers" on your Re-Bar, as long as concrete can reach all sides of the bar. = quicker and cheaper!
You are doing a great job my friend and I am no expert but a little more editing would show the same results more effectively you are a craftsman you do the world a favour good job

I agree. You placed dry stones on top of the dry wall. You now have very little adhesive to the foundation.
멋지네요 대단해요

Why could if collapse? @@gamingbigfilipp
In a perfect world you would fix the walls first then the top but it looks fine from my house in Dallas Texas

i'm restoring a place in scotland but i'm using lime rather than concrete as its breathable and doesnt damage the stone if moisture gets behind it
