Knowing that the bore is sometimes NOT perfectly center through the center axis of the barrel. Do you also index the bore to mark the bore axis and set it perfectly pointing up when finished? Apologies if I'm not using the right term.
No, My thoughts on this.
If that barrel pointed up or down theory was correct. If the barrel was pointing left and right every rifle would shoot left or right at distance with no wind if they were not pointing up or down. You never hear of any complaints about this.
I hope this helps explain why I don’t do it.
@DustinDrews1 You probably won't hear complaints about it. Most people "assume" it's not a possibility, and consider the problem lay elsewhere. If you're contouring the barrel yourself, I can see it as not being a problem. If, however, the barrel is already contoured on a lessor quality machine, then it should be checked to see if it exists in the barrel and indexed accordingly.
Clocking the barrel is done to theoretically keep most of the barrel harmonics in a single plane. I've heard people say it works, and other people say they can't tell the difference. My opinion is that it can't hurt. The bore may be curved in one plane, it may be a helix, or it may curve randomly in a few directions, so the effect will probably differ from one barrel to another. Having said that I think a precision chambering job is far more important than clocking the barrel. And this is one of the best videos I've seen on chambering.

Have you considered machining the muzzle end first, then using the muzzle threads to attach your coolant line?
Seems like one less step in the process, provided the client isn't against having the muzzle threaded.
I have thought of it but I like having a bit of grace if something goes wrong on the chamber end I can still salvage the barrel.

@@nicolebaker5193 I haven’t thought of doing that but it could be an option. I’m a flight instructor. Teaching this is simple compared to teaching people how to fly.
