  • How to replace the radio and add a rear camera on a 2007 Honda CR-V
    Honda CR-V third generation: 2007-2011
    This video walks through the removal of the OEM Honda radio/receiver head unit, the installation of a Boss BE7ACP-C radio/receiver head unit, and the installation of a Boss ELPC40B rear view license plate mount camera. This Boss model comes with both the head unit and rear camera as a package.
    The Boss BE7ACP-C has a 7" (178mm) capacitive touchscreen, AM/FM receiver, Bluetooth®, MP3-compatible, Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto, 340 Watts. The Boss ELPC40B is a weatherproof hi-res rear view license plate mount camera with a hidden mounting bracket and LED lights to illuminate the area behind the camera.
    I purchased the Boss product from Crutchfield, however, this video is not sponsored in any way by Crutchfield or by Boss. I will note, though, that the Crutchfield "ReadyHarness" is worth its weight in gold. Items purchased from Crutchfield for this installation are:
    1. Boss BE7ACP-C Package - Item 104BE7ACPC
    2. American International HON-K817 Dash Kit (Black) - Item 003HONK817
    3. Crux SWRHN-62B Wiring Interface - Item 249HN62B
    4. Posi-Products™ Wire Connectors - Item 669PP605
    5. Crutchfield ReadyHarness™ Service - Item 264PASCON
    Also, be sure to have a set of auto-trim removal tools -- you will need them.
    Chapters:
    0:14 overview, kit, parts
    0:23 disconnect battery negative terminal
    0:35 set emergency brake
    0:40 instructions/documents
    1:12 disassembly/removal of OEM radio receiver
    3:40 unboxing Boss BE7ACP-C head unit and ELPC40B camera
    4:08 mounting the Boss head unit in the Honda mounting kit
    6:53 wiring harness discussion and steering wheel control DIP switches
    10:34 close-up images of splice locations for camera & emergency brake
    11:09 access and splicing wires for camera and emergency brake
    17:15 running wires to the back of the car for the camera
    22:51 connecting the camera wiring (power and video)
    24:45 mounting the camera
    25:21 connect wiring harnesses for Boss head unit (and test before you put everything back together!)
    28:17 verifying Boss head unit and camera works properly
    29:16 putting everything back together
    32:46 powering up to make sure everything works
    Plan on this taking an entire day if it is your first time removing/installing a radio. Take your time and be patient. You can do this.

    Wow, thanks for the high level of detail on wire location. Putting a backup cam in daughters 2007 and didn't want to terminate power in rear off the bulbs, wasn't having much luck checking forums for the backup power wire and BOOM! found your video. You put a lot of extra effort into noting location, clip removal, etc. Well done!

    I referred to your video many times this past Saturday as I installed a Boss stereo and a rearview camera on my wife’s 2007 Honda CR-V. Particularly of concern was the wiring connections for the rearview camera. Everything in your video was exactly like what I needed to do on my car. Your meticulous attention to detail and patiently explaining each step was especially useful to me. Also I had never heard of “posi taps“ before, something that I added to the rest of my splicing equipment. Thanks again for your video.

    Thank you so much for sharing. Identifying the reverse light wire under the dash will help me out greatly. I’m curious to know if you had an issue fishing the camera wire through the rubber between the lift gate and the frame. The camera wire is exposed and tucked behind the light assembly. I would like to try and fish it through the frame if possible. I’m also going to install a Boyo 17IR which has a smaller connector and a “sealed” trigger wire on the camera side. If I am understanding your method, I would jump my power wire from the back all the way to the trigger wire in the front?

    • @LongologoProductions
      @LongologoProductions  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @hopeinvalor: Thanks for the kind words. If you are referring to the upper left corner of the tailgate, I think I mentioned/showed that I had to make a small slice in the rubber grommet where the other wires traverse. The camera wire is OK behind the left-side taillight assembly. If you are referring to where the camera wire comes out of the tailgate by the license plate light, that was a little snug but actually worked out well. The power to the camera came all the way from the front of the car by the radio. I hope that helps!

    The 10 inch ones are easier to install imo. Literally just plug in and play. but the backup camera does take some more work with splicing the backup wire light and using it to power your backup camera. and you'll need to do some drilling as well.

    • @LongologoProductions
      @LongologoProductions  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This was essentially plug in and play because I used the crutchfield ready-harness. Retrofitting the backup camera requires more work and splicing a wire down by the emergency brake, but was quite doable in the end. Thanks for commenting.

      @@dannylinders6157 Personally I think the crutchfield ready-harness is worth its weight in gold. It removes so much hassle and also has the right dip switches so you can preserve the steering wheel controls, which is also a huge plus in my book. I'm getting a 3rd gen (2010) CR-V EX-L and planning to install a head unit with backup camera. I saw a few BOSS head unit brand with AA/Apple Car from Crutchfield. Are the extra harnesses for the steering wheel control needed? When I installed an android head unit to an 8th gen Civic EX, a single set of harness was all I needed. The steering wheel control works and connects to the android head unit with adjustable app installed. Does a BOSS head unit work the same ( having steering wheel control option on the screen) or the extra steering wheel control harnesses are a must?

      @theedge508: Thanks! GPS and any maps are all driven by your phone through either CarPlay or Android Auto, so responsiveness is dictated by the phone. • @LongologoProductions
      @LongologoProductions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @theedge508: Many thanks. Waze and Google maps (and other apps) are all done through CarPlay or Android Auto. So the head unit behaves like it’s an external display piped out from your phone. GPS itself should still work from your phone even when you do not have good cell coverage. So if you download local map areas through Google maps or Waze for off-line cache, those apps should still work even if you temporarily lose cell signal. The only time that I have observed GPS being affected is either in a parking garage underground or in a tunnel, regardless of whether there are cell phone signal antennas in the tunnel. For example, driving through the tunnel on I-95 through Baltimore, there are cell phone antennas in the tunnel so you still get good cell service while in the tunnel but you lose GPS and so Waze (for example) starts to behave like you’re leaving the harbor on one of the boats! 🤣. Then, when you pop out of the tunnel, Waze picks up the GPS signal again and figures out where you are. Same behavior whether I’m using Waze just on my phone or through CarPlay on the Boss head unit. Hope that helps!

      @kthwkr: I think that’s the reason but I don’t have a definitive explanation. That said, I found that it is possible to keep the rear view camera on while driving, say, if you want something besides your mirrors to glance at for blind spots etc., but whenever the rear camera is activated so are the LED lights surrounding it regardless of day or night. Generally I just leave it alone and it comes on automatically and only when the car is in reverse gear.
