Shut the flip up, honestly. This is exactly what the snobby classical musicians said to the young jazz and rock musicians. There is no need to be condescending towards the younger generations who compose with their computers. One of the most impactful sentences that my cello mentor said was that music is good if YOU think it sounds good. The instrumentation does not matter as long as it's good music. Get off your high horse and just appreciate music without putting others down.

    Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
    Don't you cry no more
Once, I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
    I was soaring ever higher
    But I flew too high
Though my eyes could see, I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think, I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
    I can hear them say
    Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
    Don't you cry no more
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, well
It surely means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say
    Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more (no!)
(Carry on) you will always remember
(Carry on) nothing equals the splendor
Now your life's no longer empty
    Surely Heaven waits for you
    Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry, don't you cry no more!
    No more!

It’s not a fashion statement. Rich Williams blew his eye out of his head when he was a kid making bombs with black powder and baby food jars. He twisted the cap onto one and the friction ignited the powder in the rim of the cover. It’s really a horrible thing that he, very thankfully, survived.

@@DCB728 LOL dude he was trying to say that's NOT the case with Steve Walsh, as per the "hold my beer" line suggests.
And on this particular night Steve Walsh actually happened to sound quite good, especially when compared to some of their previous shows. His big issue later in his career was he was inconsistent, some shows he actually sounded quite good for his advanced age, and on other shows he really struggled to perform.

    • @DCB728

@@DCB728 Come on dude the guy was almost 60 years old when they did this show, did you expect him to sound the same as he did back in the 70's? Maybe I'm way off but he doesn't appear to be having trouble hitting all the notes on key, and his voice still seems to have a decent amount of strength. But many of his poor performances were often caused by drug/alcohol use, supposedly he had a serious problem with primarily cocaine up to the 90's, and it definitely caused him to perform poorly live on more than one occasion.

    • @andystokes8702

Steve Walsh is one of rock's greatest vocalist but doesn't receive the recognition he deserves. This is one of the great songs from the 70's and imo Kansas' best track. I can't believe that it never became a huge worldwide hit. Many people were introduced to it through Supernaturral, but for me it was the Henry Winkler movie "Heroes" back in 1977. Everyone was leaving, but I sat through the entire credits of the movie to make sure I didn't miss a note on the great cinema soundsystem.

Great musicians all and perhaps most impressive here is the iconic Steve Walsh, who sounds as good as he did in the mid-70s!

Kansas appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the 1970s and 1980s and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. "Carry On Wayward Son" was the second-most-played track on US classic rock radio in 1995 and No. 1 in 1997" That all sounds pretty well rated to me.

@@harrievanderlubbe2856 Harrie, you are speaking to the choir. Kansas is uniquely wonderful and deserves its place on the summit of prog rock greatness. I am speaking about the far too numerous prog purists who believe that the only good prog band is British. And though most iconic prog rock bands are indeed British-Yes, ELP, Crimson, Floyd, etc., there are bands like Kansas which, as you correctly observed by their commercial success, deserve a place at the table. Check this out as a painful example: www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/readers-poll-the-best-prog-rock-bands-of-all-time-17276/10-dream-theater-14591/ One can argue who belongs where on a list but not to place Kansas there is a terrible oversight.
