The Three Grouping Model is stunningly VISUAL….each grouping as presented made me a Believer…..the advice of craft store material versus garment wear….just hit me over the head and made so much sense as it rattled around in my brain….Thanks for the solid tips and advice…..
I'm so glad to hear that the Three Grouping Model resonated with you! Visual learning can really make concepts click. Keep experimenting with those tips! And don't feel bad. It took me a few years to realize how much better the fabric I could get from upcycling fashion pieces was than the ones I could get in a fabric store.
You had some good ideas for finding fabric and trims. I have been lucky to find lots of good items at estate sales. I do need to look at clothes more closely. Sometimes you can find pretty buttons on clothes.
Thank you for sharing Lynda, I've learnt a lot strategies for finding fabrics, especially for slow stitching projects. My favourite thrift store is Vinnies not far from me where my son doesn't mind driving me there, as I don't drive anymore. Happy Stitching HUGS
I'm so glad you found the strategies helpful! Thrifting at Vinnies sounds like a great adventure, and it's awesome that your son is there to help you out. Happy stitching!
I love to check out the little girls / infants dresses that have overkill in embellishments and ruffles and lace. Smocking is another great feature to add for embellishments. Ribbons on dresses. Love the thrift shops.
Thank you for this advice, You gave some good tips on shopping in thrift stores, I will be seeing used clothing in a totally different way. Thanks for sharing,
In Portugal, there are very few second hand shops or charity shops, specially where l live. (We don’t have garage sales). However, there are two shops in the city next to where I live, that sells second hand clothes where I like to buy my own clothes, because they always have lovely dresses. Every other month, they have sales and start selling things 5€ each, then 4€ each, then 3€ each, then 2€ each and finally 1€ each. When the prices are this low, the clothes are not as pretty nor as in good condition as before, but they’re great to tear apart and stitch. As I don’t have anyone to give me fabric nor do I find nice fabric at the charity shop, the other day I spent 20€ for 20 different items of clothes! And now have gorgeous fabric for my stitching projects 😁😁😁 You found lovely treasures too 💛🩷💙🧡🤎💚🩶♥️💜🩵🤍❤️
Thank you for the question. Since most of the pieces I make are in the 'fiber art' category, they are not likely to be washed. So the acetate lining material can be used just like any other textile. I use them in creating florals, landscapes, Boho patchwork, and abstracts to name a few. Hope that answers your question.

So true! Thanks so much for watching.
How would we re-use acetate lining?
