Man, this is exactly how I felt watching their announcement. It's got a lot of great stuff, but not put together fully enough to make sense for a church's livestream (especially not at that price point imo).
I think the Rode is for that one-man tech team that needs to record or stream. In most churches, you will need a dedicated audio solution so at that point you might as well get a dedicated video solution like the Atem.
Ya I really think it fits better for a one man youtuber livestreamer or gamer. Maybe a small vid podcast, but with only two audio inputs/two headphone outs it's not for large vid pods. And most video pods don't livestream.
10:11 Another option when you don't have an XML file is to line up all the iso feeds including your program feed, make a multicam clip, choose whatever "camera" the program feed is on, then use scene edit detection (in Premiere) to generate the cuts that were made on the program feed. If you need to fix a mistake or edit, you can just go to that section, change the multicam camera to a different iso feed where necessary, and continue on.
Thanks for the review. Now i know it is not the best option for my church. I am still considering the Osee GoStream duet because of its SDI inputs or an Atem. I still wonder if the Osee will work for lower thirds as good as the ATEM.
Looking forward to the updated version of the software but it’s pretty good so far. I want more content on this for sure as I am considering it heavily.
I see that you're using a Zoom L-8. Do you ever have an echo in the USB Channel while recording Zoom calls. That's one problem I still haven't mastered all of these years later.
Could Rode integrate the video functionalities of the Rodecaster video into the Rodecaster Pro 2 in the next product? That would make for a killer all-in-one device, combining both video and audio capabilities.
I think you’ve given a really good, balanced review of this product. The product definitely has a “Gen 1” launch product feel to it for me, with a lot of functionality “thrown together” in a somewhat haphazardly way just to get something into this market space. I find I just have to think too much about where everything can be accessed quickly from, it’s just got that “clumsy” operating feel to it compared to other competitors devices in this space. So for me it “has potential” but just not there yet, and definitely an overpriced launch price given its stage of development.
With all of the changes you suggest and you want made, can all this be added in Rode Central or Software updates? What's the most important that needs to be fixed right now?
@@garyclement2888 if they fix the keying that would be huge. Game changing would be adding ndi support with alpha channel and then being able to use a video source as an overlay. If no NDI then at least video with Luna keying as overlay.
@@RylandRussell So I currently have Apple Final Cut Pro as an editor, and it would be great to use just this machine with the Rodecaster Pro2, and have a project done. Will this machine allow me to export XML files to Final Cut Pro? My plan for this machine is to take a audio only podcast and turn it into a full fledged video for streaming and posting on various websites. To also use to edit and produce small productions and most of all durability, meaning it's not going to crash every few minutes and it works well with the RCP2. Should I wait until version 2 of this device?
Thank you. One of the most honest reviews so far. Other reviews show what it does and how the audio connection are such a plus but you deep dive in another direction. With that said are you familiar with the yolo box ultra for podcasting zoom etc. I tech a small church with Mevo core which I like but I would like to step up the game with something else other than the I pad.
Yup this is good for audio but iffy when it comes to video. It's a first gen product so hopefully the 3rd iteration will be a good competitor for the atem mini.
Atems can be found cheaper and cheaper on Ebay by the day. Without rode offering 4k i just don't see a reason to run the Rode vs an atem and separate audio device. I feel like some of the reviews were paid or just in general fan boy that doesnt account for value and doesnt take into account use cases outside of one person in their basement doing a stream. Your review is the review ive been looking for, really comparing the value against the atem and it seems it misses the mark for sure. The atem+audio seems to cover a lot more use cases for the cost.
It appears to be about 3 extra frames of latency based on PhotoJosephs Test(I'm sure there are other variables to consider). If the video has talking head and your audio is going to a sound board then you'll need to delay the audio at the sound board. If the tv is playing the audio then it won't matter. th-cam.com/video/V1lR2JCNeJc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=e0LeuT5KHnVQRWCG&t=253
My church has a panasonic GH6 with a panasonic 35-100mm 2.8 ii. We need a way to remotely control the zoom. Is there a way using a controller, app or mechanism?
@@aaimginggraphics2411 I have the original go stream and it was ok. The duet looks interesting with the option for choosing sdi or hdmi, the ndi, the multiple destinations at once. I just haven’t tried it.

Great review. Very useful especially ATEM comparison. Thanks.
Great points other reviews have not highlighted!
For me it seems good I need that one for my podcast 🔥
Thanks, lots of useful info here. By the way, what's your mic? Sounds great but I can't identify it 100%

Seems like you’re still gonna need a mixer. I wish they brought the faders of the duo to this device.
I guess you can connect some of their other mixers to this for control but that is a lot of money....that I'm not gonna be spending :)

@@ChrisDavisTrumpet I don’t use it via usb. It’s all routing via the headphone in and outs analog. That way I can build sub mixes.
