The TLDR of this one is that it is a grail game for people who are into the idea of heavy euro style roll and writes/flip and fill style games. However, it's kryptonite for anyone else, due to its staggering complexity and tons of interconnected systems. A big recommendation from me for hardcore solo gamers, especially if you liked Hadrians Wall and Legacy of Yu, because i think its better than both those games. (Much better than Yu which i found pretty average).
But for a gaming group, a family, or casual gamers. Not recommended at all. It's a niche game, but its a very good game for that niche.
I love that there’s people out there designing things this insane and finding an audience as well. Otoh we should also be aware just how fucking bonkers this is, in the sense that you can be a gamer and find this impossibly impenetrable and that’s okay.
"Anarchy in the UK! .... but it's a spreadsheet." That one cracked me up.
Wow this games looks complex. The castle battles look fun though.
The Anarchy is one of my most-anticipated crowdfunding project this year. Thanks for covering it!
No worries. As its a locally made game it breaks my rule of not covering kickstarter stuff. Which i dont do for a ton of reasons.
@@3MBG Locally made is a good reason!
Besides the game the event of The Anarchy is so cool! There's only around 10 history books on it. Empress Matilda was awesome. There's an amazing documentary on TH-cam that's around 2 or so hours long. It's worth it
I really like Garphill Games, I hope they keep releasing wonderful games... but this one is going to be for somebody else, cause one look at that playing sheet and I'm running for the hills. Hadrian's Wall was already too much for me, this looks like 2.5x Hadrian's Wall.
Skara Brae looks more like my kind of thing. But that is good, that we all have options to find our kind of stuff!
Yes, and both games are going up at the same time. It's good they have different offerings for different crowds.
Video finishes with "Anarchy in the UK..." and there I was thinking to myself "Is that joke historically accurate?"
Unfortunately - no, because UK starts in 1707, but it's still a good joke :)
And I learned something about history thanks to this video (because I had to google it), so that's a big plus :D
Dammit, i should have said Anarchy in the ununited kingdom. Doh!
I've played Hadrian's Wall twice. When we played two player both of us liked it but would've rather played Paladins of the West Kingdom for wall building and town action.
While playing it solo it was nice to play it during summer because it fits my balcony table unlike most of my solo games.
Must have been cutting it well close to keep something this complex still under 4 minutes. Lot of rewriting?
A little, lol.
Hey we can almost change the name of the channel to ''less than 4 minute board games''!
It's always been this way, this video came out on day 2 of the channels existence. th-cam.com/video/gMjoBy3_1Sg/w-d-xo.html
I found Hadrian's Wall too simplistic and grew bored of it after a few plays. This looks much more complex, but I'm not sure it has enough staying power to garner a purchase.
Maybe roll and writes/Flip and fills aren't a game genre for you. Because if this is too simplistic for you, you're probably playing the wrong genre of games.
@@3MBG Yeah, it was my first roll/flip and write. I just found that there was an optimal path and deviating from that path would always mean a much lower score. The solo campaign was nice, but all it did was force you down those inefficient paths.
I'll try this sequel out since it seems to have more complex paths to pursue as well as more stuff to do outside the sheet.
This game reminds me somewhat of Mr. President by GMT. 😂
Its not quite as bonkers, lol ;)
@@3MBG Yeah it's really bonkers sometimes, but the game flow isn't actually that bad once you have a basic idea where to find the right table in the 9 different booklets xD.
It actually makes sense to play that game with a friend, so you can split the complexity.
I do domestic politics and my friend does the foreign ministry stuff. It's just great teamwork, "Anarchy at the White House" would be the more fitting title, though.
