I was in 7th grade then, and what's funny is that the 50s era seemed so ancient at that time (we even had nostalgic 50s day in school), but it was actually only 20 years prior to this time. 20 years is Nothing!😂 20 years to me now is like yesterday!😂
My mama took all 4 of us kids to see ELVIS 2 YrS IN A ROW 😃🥰 IN, 1976 + 77 , at ages 12+ 13 one of his last shows !! Did you also feel like Elvis concert was not only superb but there was an unblvbe feeling in the air , almost surreal Did you see females fainting etc ?😃😃?! We still have the good ol home movies thanks to our awesome mama sneaking her 8mm movie camera in ❕🌠✨🌜🌌❄️✨🌛 pS my 1st x ever in NYC was Ny Eve in 79 + we,my twin + I snuck to Times square 🙂🙂🌜🌠🌛
This was my first New Year's Rockin' Eve viewing back in 1976/77, when I was in 6th grade!!! Funny, I'd just been thinking about this one recently!!!! Sadly, the historic room, The Cocoanut Grove, has been no more for quite some time, now!!!! 😊 CHEERS! 😊
The good old days. A am only in my mid 50's. This is where life was simple and easy and when people treated each other with kindness and respect no matter your differences of opinions Not the B.S. of today. The music kicks ass no matter your musical taste.
I remember watching this, I was 6. I hated the song Shake your Booty and I would run away from my mom who loved the song and would always dance to it. I would hide in my room till it was over...
This was back when a mix of popular acts of various genres were widely known and their songs widely popular because of Top 40 radio. Since the demise of that format in the 90s, the US simply doesn’t have this kind of widespread sharing of multiple genres. The loss of Top 40 radio has led to a balkanization of genres, a sad development for popular music. Also, the BTO medley of their hits was performed when they had already peaked. Their 1975 album had only one barely Top 40 song and their to be released 1977 album had no hits, nor any of their subsequent albums.
back when these New Years Shows were worth watching!!

1977: Rock and Disco co-existing together on one stage!
I may be wrong, but it sounds like every act on this show is performing LIVE. What a concept!
Man O Man life was so much Better !! ❤❤❤❤❤

Life Before Thug Life, Musical Dysfunction And Attitudes!
Real music. Not the prerecorded crap with dancers that we have now.
This was when News Years Eve was nice to watch…Now forget it, it sucks!
Exactly! Not a classy event to watch anymore.
I was only three when "New Year's Rockin' Eve 1977" aired on ABC, and this is my first time seeing Frankie Valli with facial hair!
I was four then . Saw Frankie Valli posted on TH-cam towards his last days . I watched a movie about him also
Frankie had a mustache and goatee in the mid late 1960s
Thanks for sharing
This was the era of feathered hair, it was no more bangs for me, thanks to Farrah Fawcett, i got some hairspray parted my hair and featherd it.🤣
And no tats on the women. 🙂
This came out 2 years before I was born. Cool performances so far.
Did Clark just said this was the 1976 to 77 celebration! So Andy Gibb was on the next year.🎉
Damn, I was 5 years old....now I'm old as hell.
I was in first grade. Getting old sucks. The body hurts a little more.

Beautiful year
BTO at the height of their popularity. Wow.
1977 seems like yesterday
The year I graduated High School, and now I'm retired.
To me it seems so long ago.

Just 5 months later we would have "Smokey and the Bandit" to cherish forever. You sumbitches! 🤠☃
Kevin Harlan, Gus Johnson, or Joe Tessitore would great on New Year's Eve.
