Me and my 3 1/2 nephew Knox watched this video together. He absolutely loved it, laughed when you talked about a bathtub full of hotdogs, and couldn't take his eyes off the screen throughout the whole video. I'm not sure how much he understood, but he said he really liked it, and he loved the dream animation. He says "Hi Ze!" he was in a fit and this calmed him down(: thank you. You've got a new fan!
PINING FOR THE FJORDS? HI well met 🤝🏻 6 words put together as such tumbled my hard-ass exterior crumple lika a vacuum spaced Almond Joy. translation; Lmao A LOT!D Too funny by far 😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣
Out of all the videos on TH-cam this explained the Higgis theory the best to me, and made me rewatch everything else I watched before trying to understand what it is and what it means. Thanks for the video and interpretation of the Higgis Boson, It definitely made my day.
After reading and watching every article & video trying to explain the Higgs Boson, I think I've finally got a basic grasp of what this is all about. Thank you so much :)
That dream was so awesome. The description and the animation. I only remember dreams where I hug people, for some reason. (Also, that was one of the best explanations of the Higgs-Boson I've ever heard.)
It is a particle that can occupy the same space and energy state as particles like it, something which fermions (normal matter) cannot do. As a result, it is great at mediating force.

Real honest to God question, no funny: does physics terrify anyone else? Like, actually terrify. The implications of it, the sadness of our tiny nature, the thought that one day, if a Higgs field shifts slightly...we're all just gone. Like we never existed. I'm sorry I asked this. Do I press "cancel" or "comme
That's probably the most sense a metaphor ever made for the theory. All that's left is a way to explain what causes certain particles to gain mass via the Higgs mechanism and not others.
If we use the example of a person walking through a party again, the higgs person sort of latches onto the person walking through. So now they're both walking together, with a greater combined mass but less speed. So the particles that interact more with the higgs field will have a greater mass, but travel at a lower velocity.
The best explanation of the higgs mechanism I've heard was given by the DG of CERN at the press conference. Imagine a room full of journalists. An unknown person would be able to move through the room at the fastest possible speed, which we take to be the speed of light, but a famous person (fame=mass in this analogy) would be crowded and slowed down to below the speed of light. The higgs boson is how these journalists communicate, the rumour that spreads round when someone enters the room.
I just watched a video on BuzzFeed, How to Restore Your Faith in Humanity, and I recognized that voice immediately, Ze. :) The fact is, you do that for me every time you post on YT.
I mean not to be superficial, but the woman welcoming in this gem of a video is an indubitably stunning ray of sunshine, and thus, it yields me no surprise that her vines grow such an emerald bounty!
For the screams, with the description "The oncoming storm behind her" ... I searched for the Doctor for awhile... didn't find him though. disappointing. :c
The TH-cam counter stops around 300 when a video is first uploaded. So many people flock to a new video at the same time, it's impossible to keep track of them all without breaking TH-cam.
This is an amazing video. I love the random hot dog comments throughout, but they're kind of oddly related... Also, glad we got to share the hotdog bathtub moment. xD
I loved this video. Watched it. Watched it again. Then I paused it when the Japanese woman appeared on the electronic billboard. I snipped her portrait and opened it in Photoshop. I converted it to B&W and made a negative of it. The resulting image sure won't play in Peoria.
I spend hours listening to them all while picking them out...fascinating. I've also been having them interpreted by someone who works in mental health.
It's taken humanity so long to find it and I am sure that we can only advance with our knowledge of its existence. Yes, the spiral hotdog is a pretty amazing thing.
They would stand still until they are interacted with, at which point they would interact with the person walking through. And yes, they do have mass. In fact, they are quite heavy. With all of this, keep in mind this is only an analogy and does not exactly fit what happens, because it is extremely complex. But I hope it does help give you some intuition.
When the universe was created basically, so a long as time ago. They didn't create the Higgs field, they predicted that it existed and the Higgs boson particle helped prove it in a way.
Yay for Higgs and for science! Also, yay for hot dog filled bath tubs lol. Great explanation of Higgs, I love learning about it from different perspectives. Also, hope they can give the Nobel prize to all 5 guys who were working on this around the same time, and not keep the 3 ONLY rule. Now I need to make a spiral hot dog, off to the store...
i had a dream a few nights ago that everyone i ever cared about was standing on a large puddle of water and i held a toaster that was on, and though all of there screams to stop, i still thew it in and watched all of them die. and the weird thing is i didin't feel bad about it
There is nothing weird about remembering myself naked and in a bathtub filled with hotdogs. The weird part was the hot mustard and how it didn't leave chemical burns.
If we were all so different and broken, we would never be able to get together and figure out that something was right (or wrong). We would essentially be speaking different languages to each other. This is a bigger problem than I think many people realize.
yes.
Nearly 6 years later and I'm the first comment
After watching "True Facts about the Duck," I lost my appetite for hotdog spirals.
Wheres the Ducks? Ima go find the Ducks. BRB

"Now imagine yourself naked in a bathtub full of hotdogs. That has nothing to do with it, but I'm glad we got to share that experience."
I’m literally unable to breathe. 12 years later it still dead from it.

He never blinks, my eyes are watering from the constant staring contest, I'm addicted.

7 YEARS AGO???? Im commenting on the 7YEAR COMMENT??? Higgs made it possible 😬😬💥
The single frame at 0:07 is terrifying. :p
Wow. ZeFrank, ZDogg bows in awe.
a particle physicist.
this is one of the most understandable explainations i've seen so far
German sausage jokes are the wurst.

technically it's a Higgs-LIKE-LIKE boson.
I always get just a little bit happy when I realise I don't have to click away any ads every time I watch a Ze video.
I love the screaming shots, so many amazing photographs. Chuffed my hanko stamp is so clear in the video too. Thanks Ze :D
sorry - or a hot dog vendor.
"... wonderfully odd, and broken, and unique." Thank you Ze.
-J
He is such a wise...inspiriational person.
Ze , your videos always make my day - whether they are thoughtful or funny or both. Thank you :)
Incredible :) I'm so impressed by the fact that not only did you explain it, but you managed to get so many references to the hotdogs in there :)
Why have I never discovered this man? I've loved all his videos so far, he's got such personality. :)
After reading and watching every article & video trying to explain the Higgs Boson, I think I've finally got a basic grasp of what this is all about. Thank you so much :)

The universe is vast, life is exceedingly rare, but you made it here to leave your comment. I think you're going to be ok.
That's probably the most sense a metaphor ever made for the theory. All that's left is a way to explain what causes certain particles to gain mass via the Higgs mechanism and not others.
Ze is quickly becoming my favorite TH-camr. He always makes me think...
The dream animation at the end is AWESOME!
I had a spiral hotdog for the first time today. It was delicious. I don't know why the different cut makes it so much better, but it does.
That dream animation was amazing! Well done, Lee Hall!
Ze, thank you for this video! It's interesting to hear these metaphors that help me better understand a very complex and interesting discovery.
i can imagine that the guy at the end has put so much effort into learning those three chords.
I am absolutely fascinated by that spiral hot dog.
AWESOME and HILARIOUS as always! That spiral hotdog looks awesome too, but must be tricky to make.
YAY! I've been waiting for this all week!
The postcards in the cubbies are making me smile!
Fucking hell.
Why is everything you say so brilliant?
I had never heard of the spiral hot dog. It sounds like a most wonderful thing.
If we use the example of a person walking through a party again, the higgs person sort of latches onto the person walking through. So now they're both walking together, with a greater combined mass but less speed. So the particles that interact more with the higgs field will have a greater mass, but travel at a lower velocity.
ze you're my favorite kind of funny. the thought provoking funny.
Fun fact: Ze's father has a Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Who?
Holy fuck, really? :O
You are so wonderful. I'm wildly happy you exist.
Ze, your curiosity and unique perception of the world is refreshing. Kinda like Sprite but with less carbonation.
Keep it up sir.
However, I never liked Sprite.

You've got to be one of the most quotable people out there, Ze. You're awesome, man.
I just watched a video on BuzzFeed, How to Restore Your Faith in Humanity, and I recognized that voice immediately, Ze. :) The fact is, you do that for me every time you post on YT.
You entertain me with your words.
I mean not to be superficial, but the woman welcoming in this gem of a video is an indubitably stunning ray of sunshine, and thus, it yields me no surprise that her vines grow such an emerald bounty!

i love that it now makes sense to me, i love that you said tummies and i love that I'm now craving hotdogs
Very kind words. Thank you!
Loved it all. What a crazy dream...haunting.
"It was the 60s and they had bad hair"
*Looks at Ze*
"Nah, too easy."
I'm a science nerd, and yet I found the spiral hot dog thing just as cool as the Higgs!
The TH-cam counter stops around 300 when a video is first uploaded. So many people flock to a new video at the same time, it's impossible to keep track of them all without breaking TH-cam.
I love the fact that Hank and Ze both uploaded Higgs Boson explanations simultaneously. I feel doubly enlightened.
This is an amazing video. I love the random hot dog comments throughout, but they're kind of oddly related...
Also, glad we got to share the hotdog bathtub moment. xD

You are really caught up on that whole hot dog thing.
This must be the first time that the phrase "Smashy smashy" has ever been used to describe particle physics so eloquently. I love you, Ze Frank.
That is impressive animation, Mr. Hall. Good work!
Haha, such a simple answer to such an intricate question.
One of my best friends used to be suicidal, and for me at least talking and trying to get him to talk to a doctor or at least an adult seemed to help.
I've been seeing so much about the Higgs Boson all over but this spiral hot dog... WOW. Genius
I spend hours listening to them all while picking them out...fascinating. I've also been having them interpreted by someone who works in mental health.
Life, the universe, and everything.
The only piece of important information i will remember from this video is the awesomeness of the spiral hot dog.
i need to ponder it a few more times.
All this higgs stuff is great and all but the spiral hotdog blew my mind.
Thanks! I worked on that one for more time than any other.
This makes me simultaneously fascinated and hungry, like I want to eat a really great idea.
this man is awesome ^.~
You Are actually my favourite youtuber right now :)
zefrank would be the best school teacher ever. i would love his class.
I did not know you could make spirally hotdogs, thank you
It's taken humanity so long to find it and I am sure that we can only advance with our knowledge of its existence. Yes, the spiral hotdog is a pretty amazing thing.
You only blinked 5 times for this entire video.

Oh. My. Gosh. I wonder about that ALL THE TIME. Glad I'm not the only one.

It is so great that they discovered the Higgs Boson particle. Wow!
Bathtub full of hotdogs. I love you Ze, you crazy fucking genius.
tummies! what a spectacular plural noun!
i had a dream a few nights ago that everyone i ever cared about was standing on a large puddle of water and i held a toaster that was on, and though all of there screams to stop, i still thew it in and watched all of them die. and the weird thing is i didin't feel bad about it
that was my favorite dream animation.
That was an amazing dream animation.
You dont understand how much I want a hotdog right now
Ze your videos are amazing!
There is nothing weird about remembering myself naked and in a bathtub filled with hotdogs. The weird part was the hot mustard and how it didn't leave chemical burns.
I read the comments while the ad was playing before the video: I am very confused.
This is the most fucking incredible show i have ever seen. ever.
I've never wanted a hotdog so much in my entire life.
Love the tags, Ze
Also the Asian woman on the billboard is from 'Blade Runner'.
If we were all so different and broken, we would never be able to get together and figure out that something was right (or wrong). We would essentially be speaking different languages to each other. This is a bigger problem than I think many people realize.
go to the forum on Ze's site and check out the first mission.
Thanks so much! I created it with the hope that it would make people smile! :D
When you watch it with 2 speed he sounds like a weird Fact Core.
Your description of the Higgs Field reminded me of David Tenant
