    The idea behind Ahkmou always really disturbed me.
    He's a simple Po-matoran who decided to turn on his own countrymen
    and knowingly sells them items that inflicts madness and eventual death.
    That a seemingly harmless matoran could perform such awful deeds is much scarier
    than anything the Makuta could ever do.

      +Andy well the story showed that a simple matoran could go as far as to kill some of the most powerful beings of the universe by being a great being in disguise...also that explains why great beings are on the list

    Makuta Teridax is definitely the villain to end all villains. His personality just fits for someone like him. His very design gives off a sheer sense of fear and dread. He's one of the most powerful villains I've seen in any media and that's without mentioning his genius intellect. Overall he's only truly lost once in the series and that's after he succeeds in becoming a god. Every other loss before this was just a minor setback or part of his plan.

    • @HarryBillyBobGeorge
      @HarryBillyBobGeorge 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      He literally took over the universe. He BECAME the universe. The Great Beings did everything on accident. Then we have Marendar and Velika being built up as even worse than Makuta AAAAAAAAND the story ends

  • @JadeFromWarframe
    @JadeFromWarframe 9 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Teridax could have been higher on the list had the "tragic hero" from MoL stayed for the rest of the saga. Conquest is so cliche, but a madman who believes he's protecting his bother? That is very rarely seen.

    • @k-leb4671
      @k-leb4671 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I'd prefer if he continuously used that excuse to manipulate others and make himself seem tragic, and then by the time he's taken over the universe most people realize he's just straight-up evil. And even then he could use it to manipulate a decent amount of beings to side with him against Mata Nui.

      William Lambert Well, I suppose it really depends on what you qualify as a villain. The great beings were really kind of just scientists messing with powers that could and were employed for evil. That's where I personally don't exactly agree with this list. It's kind of like calling the scientists who discovered nuclear fission villains; they were just discovering things about our universe that we didn't understand previously, those things just happened to lead to the human ability to destroy our world with the press of a button.

    General thoughts/responses:
    1. Vezon is overrated.
    2. Brutaka's spends much more time in the story as a redeemed hero than he does as a villain. I wouldn't put Vakama on this list, even though he technically goes through the same arc as well. If we had met Brutaka before 2006, he wouldn't even be in this discussion. tl;dr it's just a phase
    3. We had a huge argument about the Barraki vs the Piraka. I wish we had recorded that. Personally, I feel like the Barraki were underutilized and less memorable than the Piraka. What could have been Game of Thrones Under The Sea was really the same villain spread over a bunch of people. The Piraka kind of are too, but I felt that they were more striking and iconic. It was a huge debate, though. You should have been there.
    4. The Great Beings were more interested in their own pursuits than caring about the people around them. Their experiments led to the Core War, the Shattering, and very nearly unleashed a power hungry meglomaniac in a giant robot body to wreak havoc on the universe. If Mata Nui had been killed by Makuta, you can be pretty sure he wouldn't have stopped there. Their selfish mistakes had huge ramifications that they kept making worse, and that's the making of any villain if you ask me.
    5. Vezon is overrated.
    This was just my opinion, though. Subjective lists based on taste, yay, etc.
    - Kahi

      thethreevirtues But Roodaka at sixth place? Lower than Karzahni? True, he had better backstory and more "omnious" aura, but he didn't really cause much trouble for Toa or Order of Mata Nui. Roodaka was a major player for a long time, plus she mastered not only arts of leadership and deception, but also her own sipirt with development of limited shadow powers. She should've been #3 at least.

    I wouldn't exactly say that the Great Beings are "evil". True, they have a track-record of screwing things up, but it wasn't like they wanted Spherus Magna to end. And while they never intended to give sentience to the MU inhabitants, Angonce did try to prevent Marendar (who was designed to destroy Toa) from escaping its cell, which would've saved the lives of any Toa still living.
    Even Velika, the most "evil" of the bunch, isn't totally a bad person per say. He's not prideful like Teridax, or nutty like Tuyet. He just wants order, as much as anyone. The only problem, though, is that he believes that force is the only way to bring peace. The Great Beings are just a bunch of dudes addicted to creation and experimentation.

    At 5:33, I think you might have gotten mixed up with Makuta and Mata-Nui's names there. '...in his plan to upseat Makuta as the true Great Spirit.'
    But other than that... interesting video. I largely agree with the placement choices, though I do wonder why all six Piraka made the list, as opposed to just Zaktan. He really stood out to me amongst all the others.
    Really would like to see more Top Tens, I like these videos from you guys.

    You probably should have singled out "Velika" among the Great Beings as he was responsible for the sapience of Teridax in order to orchestrate an even bigger plan to rule over Spherus Magna, all while under the innocent guise of the matoran.
    10. Metus-betrayed the agori and unlike Ahkmou wasn't really sus
    9. Annona-dream stealing and all that
    8. Energized Protodermis-worked with the Makuta and may have been responsible for the shattering, extremely enigmatic so it is low on the list.
    7. The Piraka-Dynamic gang with somewhat unique personalities as well as a menacing appearance, not very successful though and ended up becoming the Skakdi Fusion
    6. The Barraki-extremely successful before and were indirectly responsible for Teridax's takeover due to giving him the idea as well as the fact that after the reformation of Spherus Magna they most likely conquered it along with the Dark Hunters
    5. The Dark Hunters(specifically the Shadowed One)-cool concept, in it for money alone, not motivated by some implausible evil scheme but just by profit. They aren't higher due to the fact that their more amoral than evil.
    4. Roodaka-extremely kniving, so much so that her name is actually matoran slang for treachery
    3. The Makuta(specifically Teridax), successfully took over the universe and ruled it for awhile.
    2. The Great Beings, neglectful and evil towards their creations, caused the shattering out of their own greed, enslaved the agori and glatorian populations and performed cruel experiments on living subjects as if they were merely objects.
    1. Velika(rogue from the great beings), indirectly caused all the MU based villains and orchestrated a yet unknown master plan to rule Spherus Magna all under the guise of an innocent matoran(Metus x20)

      This is probably exactly my list, except replace metus with krika and move him a little higher up. I like krika a lot because, while technically a makuta and "villain", doesn't really want to to be (and isn't) actually evil. I wish he wasn't the only Bionicle character like this. Also, his design is one of my favorites of all time for Bionicle canister sets.

    If you wanted to stick the Great Beings at the top of the list, perhaps you could have focused on the specific Great Being that stowed away on the Mata Nui robot. He's the reason that the inhabitants of the Matoran Universe even have personalities. After the reunification of Spherus Magna, he then decided that this reborn world should be his to command and set about killing off anything that could stand against him (including Tren Krom and Karzahni).

    Zangeif's line in Wreck-It Ralph should be reversed here. "Just because you are bad guy doesn't mean you are bad-guy." It's true that the Great Being set in motion many, many awful events, but those events were consequences of their meddling as opposed to the desired outcome. In my mind, to truly be a villain requires an intent that the Great Beings simply do not possess. Their plans weren't intended to cause *any* destruction, but they all had unforeseen flaws that created more of a mess than it fixed. Are they the heroes of the story? Absolutely not, but they certainly aren't *villains.*

      Wojtek J. Not really. the great beings are on the list, yes, but calling all of them "villains" is too general of a statement in my opinion. The great beings tried to repair their mistake with Mata Nui. Teridax's betrayal was velika's fault, not theirs. Why? Because Velika was responsible for the sentience of the inhabitants of the matoran universe, thus allowing Makuta Teridax to posses a free will and to possess the emotion of jealosy. Without Velika, the Mata Nui robot would have carried out his job just fine. So I think Velika needs his own spot on the list as number 1, and the great beings should be removed from the list.

    I would contest the idea that the Great Beings are villains. At best, they are just too proud and don't practice caution when performing their experiments. Nothing they have done was intended to cause harm, and they cared enough about what they were doing to create a 40 million foot tall robot to fix their home planet.
    Saying they are villains would be like saying Hammond from Jurassic Park is a villain. Just because he and they may have been careless and may have unintentionally caused the death of many, this was not what they wanted.
    Or even Walter Bishop from Fringe. He broke two universes just to save a life. Foolish and reckless, but not necessarily villainous. The Great Beings messed with their planet, but they clearly knew it was a problem if they were willing to create something so massive and otherwise impractical in order to undo the damage.
    Keep in mind, though: the Great Beings weren't responsible for the Shattering. The EP is. The EP is the impetus for the Core War, and is known to be sapient. It can't control destiny so it can't necessarily prevent itself from destroying things, but it is a hostile entity.
    Really, one of the earlier known menaces on Spherus Magna other than Annona would be the Element Lords, who weren't exactly creations of the Great Beings. The Great Beings gave abilities to those people, but it didn't affect how the Core War played out. Yes, more people would've died because of the ELs' abilities, but the War would've happened either way.
    Technically, most of the experiments carried out by the GBs haven't been particularly harmful. They've had some blunders here and there, but the majority of the things they did was enhance the Glatorian, Agori and Skrall races with biotechnology, and bio-mechanize some species like some wolves and the Skopios. Remind me again when they did really harm someone other than their own (like the GB who touched the Ignika).

      @Kahinuva 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      JJ Pryer The only difference between the Great Beings and Walter Bishop is that we see the story from the side of Walter Bishop. I'd definitely count Walternate as a villain for those few seasons, but he's literally just a more together Walter. If Bionicle was told from the point of view from the Great Beings, it would be different. But it isn't.

    • @acrowbar2394
      @acrowbar2394 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TTV Kahi Well yeah, Walter broke two universes and Walternate wanted to destroy one of them completely.
      The GBs, on the other hand, just did a bunch of weirdo experiments that didn't cause any harm to anyone except one of their own. The Element Lords and Baterra would've been their biggest blunder. But they didn't break the planet; the EP did. The GB only intended to repair the damage. Clearly they cared. Willing to spend an immense amount of resources on some megascale structure to repair their planet. They may simply have a natural desire to create weird things but they had a direction with this project to unify the worlds.
      …which is odd since the Shattering didn't destroy the whole planet a la Krypton, and there being two moons afterward didn't seem so bad. It's only implied by Kiina that whatever happened in the past made most of Bara Magna into a desert. It's not wholly clear since Bara Magna would've always been a desert, but wouldn't colliding three massive celestial bodies together destroy all life on them? I guess the robot had gravity powers but wouldn't space travel (or even teleportation) between the worlds have been an easier, more practical solution to building such an immense thing?
      If we think of it that way, maybe the GBs foresaw that travel between the worlds would've been feasible (if not space travel due to the dangerous EP in planets' orbit, we know teleportation is a thing in that universe), but they would've rather exploited the impending tragedy as an excuse to build their biggest project yet to compensate for their god complexes.
      If that were the case, then I could imagine that they were truly villainous because doing this 100,000 year project meant 100,000 years of suffering to Bara Magna's peoples rather than building means to travel between the worlds within 20 years. They clearly had the resources to build a megascale robot, so they could've done better. At the very least, you could say they are sociopaths. They never killed anyone like Makuta did, but they probably don't care if anyone did die. By inaction, they let a lot of suffering happen in two worlds.
      Although one of them did seem to care about the whole Marendar thing. Maybe they do have a conscious, even to beings they created? Who knows? We never got to really see what they were all about.

    Seems to be based a lot on power 'n stuff, even though the Great Beings, and the Shadowed One, for example, didn't appear so directly in the storyline. In my opinion, it leaves quite a gap in their personality, and makes us quite unable to see what they really can do. As you might have guessed from my username, Vezon was my favorite villian for a pretty long time, but now I'm more a fan of Teridax. Those two have quite an interesting personality and story if you ask me. Teridax being the evil badass mastermind, and Vezon being more of a weird, insane nihilist. That Vezon doesn't do so much makes him less interesting, though.

      Man, back in my day Karzahni was just a rogue houseplant sealed away in a labyrinth. He wasn't a sapient set, he was a prototype phytohydra that was too unruly to be used and was replaced by the more docile(!) Morbuzakh.
      I think the ridiculousness of recycling old non-sapient characters as titan sets is where I stopped following Bionicle. Seeing Karzahni as a set was the first time I ever said a Bionicle release was "stupid." To think little old sperg Jake accepted everything up to and including squid launchers with blind abandon, but a previous character being completely rehashed as some green thing with legs was too much.

    Calling the great beings 'villains' seems like a bit of a cheat way to get the most powerful entities on this list - that's like saying that all the problems of our own world can all be traced to the fact that someone or something created us, and therefore the creator is to blame. Personally, I think that once creation takes place and intelligent life is formed, that same life is responsible for their own actions. I'm not so sure that the great beings should necessarily qualify for the list.
